The whole satire angle is decades old cope by now. The franchise hasn't been satirical for most if its life besides the occasional book or reference.

Satire doesn't need to be funny. The setting is satire, it taking itself seriously internally doesn't make it not satire. Rule of cool grimdark nonsense doesn't make it not satire.

Even in Space Marine 2 you're playing a power armored combat monk in a mega structure spaceship full of chanting half robot who need prayers to activate machinery and lobotomize peasants for labor.

You get the classical heroic strong guy power fantasy despite the entire aesthetic of what you're protecting being hellscape industrial plants that are using slave gangs pulling missiles on chains. You're the good guys because you're less evil than space locust and Satanist Souls trapped in empty suits of armor. One could even argue that, like Helldivers, being handed a gun and being told to slaughter humanity's enemies being the only excuse needed to overlook how fucked up the setting is is, itself, satire.

The whole backdrop setting is satire, it just isn't the style of goofy humor satire it was 40 years ago. It's evolved and takes itself internally serious now, but it's still satire despite it now lacking irony. The Imperium is a fascist hellhole that grinds millions of humans up daily to not fall entirely apart and it's the single best option humanity has because if you turn off the evil machine humanity gets raped to death by all the other fucked up things out there.

Faggots just can't seperate 'this thing is cool' and 'I genuinely support the practices of this setting' because their twitter hugboxes are still whining about how Harry Potter is retroactively transphobic. Likewise, they can't understand satire unless it's ironic and blunt comedy. Because they're morons.

For it to be satire it needs to have a target, but the series has become so disengaged from reality that you really need to stretch to apply it to anything besides some meta commentary on the human condition, which is beyond most BL authors. It definitely doesn't satirize fascism anymore.

And while the Imperium is constantly doing horrific things to stay alive, most works about it reflect that it still contains many individuals that, despite living on the bottom hierarchy of it, will still fight for its existence.

The more GW built the universe, the more the actions of the Imperium shifted from being malicious into being logically justifiable.

So I started reading the War for Rynns World omnibus and it's really making me like the Crimson Fists.

I really like how the book uses Scout companies as actual scouts too, since most Astartes focused novels kind of ignore them.

Trying to move silently in MkVII power armour, Drakken knew, was like trying to reload a bolter with just your teeth – damned near impossible and usually not worth the bother. Sooner or later, the orks would wake up to 3rd Company’s presence here, and when they did, the real work, the righteous work he lived for, would begin proper.
He led his Astartes through the breach in the curtain wall that Mishina and his Scouts had marked out for them. Orks wouldn’t see those marks. The Scouts left little splashes of a liquid that was only visible in infrared. The helmet visors of the Crimson Fists picked up those splashes as if they were blazing neon lights, and the Space Marines followed them into the town of Krugerport, knowing that the path they followed had been cleared for them.

Helldivers warhammer crossover with no details, 40k krieg skins for rust, new chaos gate about DW vs xenos(xeno gate?), some dark heresy stuff showing kroot and a nightlords book in the collectors edition box, speed freeks game still a thing, some bullshit for their digital card games

hard release date of Sept 17th for DoW 4 and roadmap with a new faction and campaign

Mechanicus 2 launch trailer, steel legion references in the total war trailer, whfb chinamen get some stuff for TW warhammer 3, some sidescrolling aos skaven thing, bolt gun 2 demo out, dark angels gamer chairs and skins for your gamer chair

At least they had a lot to show off I guess.

Space Marine Patch 13 is live. Some stuff.

Body shot damage increased for bolt weapons, and headshot multipliers rely solely on the weapons stats and not the individual enemies modifiers. This is good Overall you're still better off just shooting the head so whatever. At least now you aren't completely wasting your time and ammo if you miss.

A new grenade because we needed that apparently. Pyreblaster canister that you need to shoot to activate. Idk how well it works, but shooting the melta to activate it can be a pain in the ass and enemies don't like to stay grouped up. Basically a shitty incendiary from the sound of it.

Practice Arena because that was a popular mod, and perk loadouts finally. Because people have convinced themselves theres enough depth in the game to require swapping loadouts mid mission, and not because they get bored and want to use a different weapon.

Smg side arm for the Bladeguard and Assault. Meh? Its neat to have what is basically a primary for a sidearm but thats about it imo. I still see the plasma pistol being the better option for health regen and the stagger/aoe.
Siege mode grants accolades now. 15 waves of normal for 50, and 15 of hard for 100. Not worth it since siege is still such a fucking slog. And they've basically said they have no intention of letting you pick which faction you fight in siege so lol as far as I'm concerned. Oh also Hive Tyrant and Vortex beast can show up now with the other bosses. That's neat I guess.

The new cosmetics are bugged, lol. Known issues that'll be fixed in the part 2 of this update, because of course they still didn't get it all done in time. Using certain cosmetics disables the ability to customize others for whatever reason. I'm sure there'll be more bugs when they do the robes and tabbards part, since right now it's just Halos/Scramblers and capes/loincloths.

Haven't been able to find a list of the new ordeals, but some of the ones I saw were:
-complete 30 operations on absolute with each class. This unlocks a red cape.
-complete 100 operations with each class on absolute. This unlocks a black cape.

These are not retroactive. I genuinely cannot express how much this triggers my tism. They so very desperately want to pump the numbers for absolute and overall playtime, and this is the only way they can do it. Gate simple ass cosmetics behind ridiculous grinds. It's the same shit they pull with making new operations have both factions. People hate chaos and this is the only way to get them to fight it. Whatever. Once again I'd pay real world money to just play dress up. Game just does not have the depth or a fun enough loop to justify the amount of grind they demand. The prestige grind showcases this enough as is. Idk maybe if you can still cheese it with stratagems it won't be so bad, but it's just the lack of respect for the players time I have an issue with at this point.
They did add a good amount of new colors for cloths, lenses and weapons as well as a hefty amount of extra chapter heraldry alongside the Iron Hands shit.

Edit: Had a chance to look at the update now. Fuck this shit sideways.

Wanna use the stupid little space wolf champions loincloth on someone other than Vanguard? Yknow that thing you paid real money for? Well go fuck yourself. Grind some ordeals. Wanna use one of the Iron Halos you unlocked 2 months after launch? Lol fuck you, ordeals.
Hey you wanna use those worthelss requisition points to buy the new heraldry? Or maybe thought we'd add some of it to the accolade store? Lol. Lmao even. Grind. Ordeals.

1000 siege matches. Get to wave 25 on hard siege x amount of times. Complete 130 absolute operations with every single class. Solo(no bots) absolute x amount of times. Kill another 40 gorillion enemies with range/melee/equipment and on and on.

Lots of people seem pretty pissy about this too. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Saber address this. Whether they do anything or not is doubtful.

All in all, it's more if the same. There's some cool shit, most of which should have been in the from the start, and a lot of really meh to dumb stuff. Imo of course.
Edit: fuck this update, I'm MATI as hell.

Guys
I think dawn of war 4 and total warhammer 40k are going to suck pretty hard.
Looks like a repeat of dawn of war 3.
i have no faith in either by default so it will be a pleasant surprise if they're decent, TW at minimum will be assfucked by DLC and seems to be the runt of the 2, imo, i have a tiny bit more trust on the Iron Harvest guys than CA

More like Gaunt is burdened by his duties. Side plot with Rawne back to doing crime because he’s bored and part of the honor guard drives him insane. Some side plot about PTSD. Everyone copes about losing some famous Ghosts, Criid copes with her issues but rah rah female power as a soldier! Chaos does something that involves Tanith having to fight. It keeps escalating until Abnett’s plot device summons some unspeakable horror out of nowhere that Gaunt has to fight. Random famous ghost dies. Mkoll comes out of no where to single-handedly stop an entire heretic astartes deployment and several greater daemons.
Yeah, he tends to, really. Try and wrap things up in the last two hours if you're listening to the audio book. I wanna be honest. The Siege of Irving High Book is probably one of the best ghost stories.
The book's not written by him are pretty decent. Asep volpony glory. That book started out good, but got really stupid with a bunch of nonsensical plot lines towards the end.
The two books that are just St Sabat and her. Kill Squad going around fucking people up are probably the best two in the series. And they weren't written by him.

Also, war machines. Just a fucking war machines and stop trying to rewrite things to sound cool, Dan.

The plot line of the twins is the single stupidest thing ever put to paper. Also, Liza Koo being the most obvious. Guy who's gonna stab the ghosts in the back but somehow is not kicked out.
Also spoilers the ghosts who die at the last book. 100% is legitimately fucking stupid. The entire side plot is dumb and should be removed from the book. An abnit should be beaten for writing it.

Relic are not doing DoW 4 so it can go either way. But it really depends on how squishy the units will be and how fast engagements will be over. As for Total War I would expect the worst. We are getting a new engine, but I have the sneaking suspicion that the team that did the Chaos Realm campaign in WH3 is also mainly responsible for TWH. So expect a buggy mess with undercooked ideas left and right. And of course everything fun is missing to be resold as DLC.

The roadmap is very disappointing. Also, I expect heavy retcons, especially towards Gabrielo Angelos.

I have a sneaking suspicion Chaos will get a brief resurgence in the Return to Aurelia campaign.

And if I have to be far more skeptical, why in the fuck is the Mission/Map Editor NOT in day 1? Did these retards NOT learn from Stormgate?

The tau are in the new deathwatch game .

YAY!
That's unironically how and why a lot of humans willingly join the Tau.

"Hey, are you tired of getting treated like shit and told its because the Emperor wills it? What if I told you there was another way? A way that didn't involve selling your soul to the Warp. Sounds too good to be true, but I assure you, its not."

That's the hobby zine that was running Trench Crusade's initial discord into the ground. TC ended up ruining their own IP just fine all on their own, but, still.

Today's reveal showed some DoW2 style battle map which looked interesting. I had lots of fun with that map system in DoW2. At least I think it was 2?

DoW4 might be good.

I'm guessing Eldar or Nids are the next factions?

How's Mechanicus 2? I'm hearing bad things. They cut off all the rough edges to make it easier to sell.

Mechanicus II is out, about 60% positive and earning a "mixed" rating from the people who played it for the last few hours. Too early to say definitively but it does not look great. This review seems to be the most comprehensive so far.
I think dawn of war 4 and total warhammer 40k are going to suck pretty hard.
With DoW 4, it's a new dev team and publisher. KING art are behind Iron Harvest so they have some decent experience on how to make a decent RTS game so I have some hopes. Then there was this statement:
Brought to you by Deep Silver and KING Art Games, the epic Warhammer 40,000 real-time strategy game (RTS) is returning to its mass-battle, base-building roots with deeply satisfying gameplay and a brutal, expanded Sync Kill system.
So at least they're going back to what put DoW on the map, how well they do it is another question entirely.
Deep Silver is a mixed bag, depends on the developers of course but publishers can be shitty.
For Total Warhammer 40k it's going to be dogshit but they'll probably sell gangbusters given how well dogshit like WHF sold...wait didn't Three Kingdoms outsell WH3? Whatever, it'll be shit but I guess the sales are going to be a tossup until release.
