wasn't that just Ducktales for the NES
That was a part of it, but the game also was just very clearly built from the ground up around the stuff you could do with a shovel (like these big dirt blocks you could break, or mounds of buried treasure) that gave it a distinct, quirky feeling.

Having that shovel-centric design then be adapted for increasingly more conventional weapons weakened the theming considerably.

A /v/tard made that same appropriate edit the femtosecond the banner was shown. Still not close to being the worst showcase on that list (there's a nigger, a foid (most probably with air quotes), and even a jeet (🤢🤮) list). If any of you manage to find a good game in that sea of trash let us know. Were it not for the recommendations I find in the sporadically few decent /v/ threads alongside my xitter oomfie's posts I would never see anything I'd like in the indie section beyond whatever FOTM rises to the top of the 'tuber algorithm.

To start off, I'll shill a recent puzzle game I liked that did get some YouTube attention but you may not have seen:

In terms of difficulty it never gets that hard, but will pose enough of a challenge to give pause and occasionally may stump you for a bit on the challenge levels.

Here's my gaming roundup for the last month or so:

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist and The White Guardian - My first and potentially last Atelier game. While it looked nice the gameplay loop just did not do it for me and it was too grindy, and I'm to believe this is one of the less grindy entries in the franchise. Oh well, glad I finally tried one but am willing to accept I'm just not the target audience.

Crysis 2 Remastered - I like this game, so having an excuse to replay it with shinier graphics was nice. It's funny how stealth trivializes the game so much but if you're down for it you can still brute force the whole campaign.

Echoes of Red - A bullet heaven that actually gives me a headache to play. It's not the worst I've played but the look of the game makes me feel unwell after 10 minutes or so.

Footgun: Underground - Interesting idea, I suppose? But just wasn't fun for me, wish there had been a more intuitive way to aim the kicks because it felt like I could rarely get them to go where I wanted. The meta progression didn't interest me much and that's a big hook for me in a roguelite.

Gunboat God - Very neat aesthetic and I enjoyed what I played of it, but I don't think I have the reflexes for the harder content anymore as I was already struggling on some of the first world missions.

Hell Forge - Vampire Survivors if it was made in a high school computer class by someone that isn't particularly good at making games. I didn't play this much.

Incredicer - Quick little incremental game that can be beat in a few hours.

I'm currently forcing myself through my 2nd playthrough of Super Robot Wars Y after the DLC came out, only to discover it ends on a cliffhanger and there will likely be even more DLC down the road. If it's not endgame DLC and is sprinkled throughout the main campaign like the rest I don't know if I have it in me to play it again. I already rate the game low in the franchise as it is. Also playing Jurassic World Evolution 2, my first foray into the franchise. I'm not very good at this sort of game as I discovered when I got stuck about 60% of the way through Two Point Hospital, but wanted to try something a little different.

In honor of Pride Month, I am exposing you all to a game I found on the 'Popular new releases' of steam that is nearly $20 USD.

A game about how the evil government stole your pronouns and you must get them back!

The achievements are a little disturbing and you can just tell by the developer's names they're troons.

Man, this absolutely belongs in the Troonslop thread. I wouldn't be surprised if this was only available in English, given the subject matter.

EDIT: ...yep.

And this glorified Flash game is twenny dolers.

It was more than that it encompassed a lot of what was great about the 8bit era and polished it to a mirror sheen. Shovel knight himself definitely got overshadowed in his own game by the dlc though. With each one the devs just kept getting better at their craft.

You have to go pretty far back in this series to get a good one. What was once a series about preparation and planning centered around consumable use to make the alchemy mechanic valuable, has now devolved into generic jrpg. The really old one's had a day system where you were expected to meet milestone achievements.

Hebereke/U-Four-ia had it too and that's also one of the best games on the NES.

maybe it's not anything Shovel Knight did, it's simply that we all secretly yearn to have to press an additional button when jumping on enemies

Yeah, I dunno. I don't think I have the patience for the grind to get the perfect ingredients and whatnot. Plus the older games have time limits which stress me out in games I like to do as much as I can in.

Has anyone actually played Mina the Hollower?
9.5.

Why even have a weapon you gotta charge to attack when you can't change directions when charging it and the bosses constantly move.

Wasting time.
If you mean the hammer, you can change directions by moving and holding the direction after instead of quicktapping to roll. Also the roll has iframes.

Faggot game devs giving money to faggot charities that place orphans into the hands of faggots so they can get raped and turned into more faggots. They will "always be here".

Jesus, all of those titles look awful but "Thirsty Suitors" seems egregiously terrible.
