Verizon users are suffering outages impacting voice and data services, the company confirmed on Wednesday.

Verizon announced in a statement on social media that its engineers are aware of the situation and are working to resolve the issue, which affected users around the U.S.

"We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience," Verizon said in a statement.

The outage tracking website Downdetector showed 172,980 reports of outages around 12:30 p.m. ET. Those outages declined to 120,628 as of 1:22 p.m. ET, and continued to decline to 67,646 as of 2:36 p.m. ET.

As of 5:30 p.m. ET there were about 46,250 reports of outages.

The most reported problems on Downdetector were mobile phone issues, which represented 62% of the reports. Lack of signal accounted for 34% of the reports, while mobile interest issues the remaining 4% as of 2 p.m. ET.

New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles and Portland were among the metro areas with outage reports submitted on the platform.

The actual number of users affected by the outage may differ from those figures, as Downdetector reports are submitted by users.

Verizon issued an update at 2:15 p.m. ET saying that "engineering teams are continuing to address today's service interruptions. Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue."

The company added that it understands the impact the disruption has on customers' days, and it remains committed to resolving the issue as quickly as possible.

A subsequent update after 4 p.m. ET indicated the engineering team is "on the ground actively working to fix today's service issue that is impacting some customers."

Verizon experienced a nationwide wireless outage in September 2024 that impacted more than 100,000 users and left customers who are iPhone users stuck in an SOS mode, while other users experienced dropped calls.

The outage drew the attention of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which had reached a settlement with Verizon earlier that year that saw the carrier pay over $1 million to resolve an investigation into 911 outages in six states. The company also entered into a compliance plan with the FCC.

AT&T chad here I just do prepaid plans with no hassle. T mobile is gay though cause their payment app will break randomly and make it a pain in the ass to pay.

This is extra insidious because not only is it to save money, but also having 75 IQ Jeets that speak "english" in the role of customer support is the best way to insure that problems that would cost them money never get resolved.
It also prevents customers from cancelling their plans and switching to a new provider. You don't hate telcos enough!

America really only has 2 mobile networks, AT&T and Verizon. T-Mobile technically has some of its own infrastructure, but it's very limited compared to the other 2 and is mostly limited to big cities. Everything else is leasing off of At&t or Verizon's networks. It's an illusion that there is a choice of mobile carrier in the US.

I've tested multiple plans and carriers. I can say that they are all equally terrible. It's always some combination of expensive and/or the service sucks somewhere, usually rural places/crowded places/indoors. There is no escaping it.

As far as I am concerned if you want the best coverage you get the newest possible highest end unlocked phone with 2 sim slots and simultaneously use AT&T and Verizon postpaid sims. However, that's very expensive.

Verizon postpaid can be the cheapest if you have a big enough family to get 5+ lines. Probably down to $20/month a line if you qualify for the discounts and set it up correctly and opt out of Verizon's bullshit addons.

For everyone else I think the best option is to get an unlocked phone and go with one of the $30 month unlimited bring your own phone prepaid plans such as Walmart's StraightTalk. Don't get ripped off by the big carriers. Don't finance phones and subscribe to their plans with nonsense addons nobody needs. That is how to make your phone needlessly expensive. Any prepaid $30month unlimited is using the same networks as the most expensive At&t or Verizon plan.

I was wondering why I didn't get my 3 daily spam calls. The more you know. I'm honestly just thinking of canceling my cell service altogether and just using the phone in airplane mode as a planner. I wish they still made palm pilots.

I liked the Baby Bells. Maybe we could go back to that. Less infrastructure for the companies to handle. Because apparently Verizon (Bell Atlantic) can't keep up, anymore.
It’s all fun and games until ma bell rents you your one phone and skull fucks you if you try to bring your own. Not being able to use your phone for a few hours is better than a single company controlling everything and engaging in rent-seeking behavior.

Don’t get me wrong, Verizon sucks, they all suck, but if Ma Bell were around today they’d try to black bag Linus T. and his merry gang of trooned out kernel devs for making UNIX basically free.

That hasn't been true since before the sprint merger.
I have SIM's on VZN, ATT/FirstNet and TMO. T-Mobile's Band 12 kicks ass and is often the only service I have in bumbfuck nowhere.

VZN has let their network go to shit. Its been getting worse and worse every year. When I am on the road I normally don't even bother with the VZN hotspot anymore.

I'll have to look into it. I've been a Verizon customer for many years now, so they always give me big discounts, but lately they have been so terrible that's not even important anymore. It's the same deadspots everytime for years and if I go in any large warehouse store building like Costco I might as well not even have a phone. When I first started using Verizon it was way better than At&t. I will say that it's probably mostly my fault for using Chineseum phones that don't have that band. I like these RedMagic phones because they have the latest processor for almost half the cost of Samsung. The screen is also the best I've ever seen. I will try a tmobile sim and see how it goes, it didn't work well years ago when I tried it, but Verizon sucks now so I'm open to other options.

Chinkphones are fine, you just have to make sure it supports all the carriers bands. If not your going to have weird dead spots.
If you live in a rural area you really want to make sure what ever phone you get supports their low band (sub 1ghz) option. Band 12 (700mhz) for TMO. Band 5/5n (600mhz) for ATT. Low band is what reaches out deep in to the woods and over hills. The higher bands offer more speed and penetrate buildings in urban areas but you need to be closer to the tower.
Its kinda annoying to have to get this deep in to the weeds with bands and what not but to have the best chance of your device working in the most places its worth the research.
