I really liked the first movie. It was a fun, dumb action movie without wokeness or pseudo-intellectualism. It actually shat on big tech for being evil and showed how difficult it is to get an entry level job. The male and female leads were both attractive and likeable, and Venom himself was also likeable. It went above and beyond my expectations. Yes, my expectations have become extremely low.

Still not a fan of the new take on Venom's voice but I'll probably see this one since I liked the first.

It was held together by Tom Hardy. You can tell he was thoroughly enjoying himself, which was infectious.

I have a soft spot for Batman and Robin due to Arnold's performance there. If the actor is loving it I will get swept up very easily despite the movies actual quality.

A show with actors who clearly care about or are having fun with their roles always tend to be more enjoyable, no matter how dumb the film may be.

I guess I'll give my thoughts since I just came from an afternoon showing. I personally found it slightly better than the first one although there were things I didn't like. It's unfortunate characters like Venom and Carnage won't be featured in R-rated works since a lot of the violence cuts away before the graphic stuff. I was surprised to learn this was directed by Any Serkis.

Venom 2 has a mid-credit scene that hints Eddie will make an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. Squeezing in that many characters feels like SM3 and TASM2 all over again but given the MCU pulled ensemble characters off with Infinity War, it probably won't be a clusterfuck.

This is going to make Black Widow more irrelevant as time goes one. I’m calling it now.
I haven't seen seen the Venom sequel, and I have no plans to.

However, the movie has already, indeed, made Black Widow more irrelevant.

Venom 2's post credits scene is adding to the hype for Spider-Man: No Way Home, as it confirmed that Venom is going to be a part of it now.

Yup, Black Widow most certainly got upstaged by Venom 2.

Considering these movies exist solely because SONY isn't allowed to use spiderman in a live action movie right now it's going to be really funny if he shows up with no connection to spiderman. Venom's whole shtick is he's basically spiderman's goofy rival that's still an actual threat due to the fact both the alien and brock have beef with peterand know things about him other enemies don't due to the fact the funny goo alien was mentally bonded with peter initially. Without the rivalry he's more or less a goofy mildly menacing vigilante antihero with a strong sense of justice. I guess they could use Mysterio framing peter as the reason venom goes after him, it'd be a lot more in-character than spiderman 3's venom.
Mysterio tricking venom could also lead to a reference to this famous spiderman moment. considering spiderman is known as peter parker by everyone now.

Throughout the movie, Venom tries to convince Eddie to embrace the Lethal Protector moniker, which Eddie does when they go into hiding after the climatic fight with Carnage. They end up in the MCU where Venom sees J. Jonah revealing Spider-Man's identity and licks the screen after saying, "That guy," in reference to Peter.

The implication I’m getting is that
venom tell’s brock that symbiotes share a multiversal hivemind and venom’s reaction to mcu peter is due to him sharing memories with the raimi venom.

lol that is so incredibly lazy if this is what they are going for.

One of the biggest complaints that people have about Avengers: Endgame is how Infinity War Thanos dies in the beginning-- the Thanos that was built up for almost a decade, and the Thanos that we grew to know as a character. Lots of people feel that Infinity War Thanos should have been the one the Avengers fought in the end, and that some of the punch goes away by using a Thanos from a different timeline. Personally, I have mixed feelings about the choices made about Thanos in Endgame (I think there's good things and bad things about it), but I totally understand why there are people who flat-out don't like the choice that was made.

The same can be applied here. We're going to watch a version of Venom who has never met Spider-Man ... Fight Spider-Man? It takes away the punch from the Venom character, to be quite frank. In the comics, Venom's motivation has always been about his unabashed hatred for Peter Parker, which makes the Spider-Man vs Venom fights all the more engaging.

In the MCU thread, I stated that this multiverse stuff is Sony's ticket to doing a Sinister Six movie without putting the work into it. Multiverse is their excuse to just get it done instead of, oh, I don't know ... Making a standalone and competent series of movies to establish the characters and their relationship to Spider-Man?

So was that black chick in the trailer supposed to be Shriek?
You are correct and this is something I noticed with recent Marvel movies. Whether it is Shriek or Domino in Deadpool 2, it is quite a coincidence that characters who literally have white skin are being portrayed by black actors in live action adaptations 🤔

At least no stunt drivers died on the set of Venom: Let There Be Carnage because of the race change.

Venom’s been out for 3 days and made 100 million. Best opening of the pandemic. I don’t really care about this movie, but it’s nice to see it upstage Disney.
