Why wouldn't they make Venom bulky? He's a literal building in the comics and Hardy of all actors play the most masculine characters. Sure we didn't see much, but certainly wasn't a:
I'm willing to give it a try. From the mentions of the Life Foundation, it sounds like they've jumped straight to the lethal protector-era Venom, with him be a crazy but semi-moral individual who ends up protecting the helpless despite the fact that he's a literal brain-eating monster.
Not sure how they're going to blend Venom's origin story in with it. My best guess is that, as the Life Foundation in the comics wanted the symbiote so they could extract its DNA and make more symbiotes, in this movie Eddie will be investigating the Life Foundation and find the symbiote already in their possession but have his life ruined by the Foundation somehow (a la Spidey in the comics ruining his Sin-Eater investigation). If that's the case, Woody Harrelson could be playing Roland Treece. Eddie's ex-wife will probably be involved, too. But since this sets up an antihero origin, not a villain origin ... Ah, hell. I'm overthinking this.
Still, at least it's not another fucking Avengers film. I'm so burned out on the MCU that Sony actually feels like a nice change of pace, and that's incredibly goddamn sad.
I didn't care that Spidey wasn't in here. Okay that's a lie. I did. But Tom Hardy was playing Venom and it was perfect and made me wet. But then I saw the trailer and was all "Oh God what did they do to you?"
My teenage little brother thought the CGI for Venom looked like shit too. Is this gonna be 2018's Suicide Squad?
Well, seeing more of Venom is certainly nice, and the design certainly has grown onto me.
But seriously marketing this whole thing as an "anti-hero" movie gets kind of annoying.
The suit looks like shit in stills but is actually ok in motion. My inner 10 year old really wants this to be good because I loved Venom. But on the other hand, Sony, and starting with anti-hero Venom... I just don't know, guys.

I doubt they'll ever do She-Venom but this is the Life Foundation stuff and they had a couple of women with symbiotes.
not that I care whether they do it or not. I was just pointing out that is something that may be considered hot.
slightly ot: some years ago I got to know an artist that draws mostly porn of marvel characters and she's really good at it. I remember a comic of hers, where she had black cat, I think, being possessed by the venom symbiote and Revenge fucking spiderman.
Is it cheesy? Yes, but at least it's cheese is earnest. Last we saw Venom (and every Raimi Spidey film after the first one) the cheesiness was because Raimi wanted to have his cake and eat it. EG: he wanted to tell a serious story but overlay it with his tongue-in-cheek style. It didn't work at all.
Also, his "eyes, lungs, pancreas" quote is ripped straight from the comics.
This entire trailer gives a very 90s Venom vibe, with corny, but pretty dark lines that he became pretty known for later on. So I can give it credit for knowing the writers have at least read some lesser-known comics, and that's not something I can give a lot of writers outside of Marvel Studios (not even Nolan).

It's a nice touch then, that the CGI looks like it was done in the 90s.
No seriously, it reminds me a lot of Spawn and it just doesn't work out for me.
