It's fucking bad nigga, though not unprecedented. It's the 80s all over again. PC's came out, were very expensive, and slowly dropped in price until the 2000s and 2010's. Around the crypto boom and the wide scale adoption of SSD's is when they slowly started ticking back up. AI massively accelerated this.
Not disagreeing at all but at least in the 1980s other forms of hobby entertainment were cheaper. For example I went to buy a bike and anything that's not a Walmart bike is over a $1k and we aren't talking fancy racer shit. I think it's worse than the 1980s because back then PC culture was at least niche now it's a mess. Maybe Jim's right and soon we will all be really into basketball or something.

I hear in other hobbies such as table top games and cards the situation is even more dire.

Valve should send the Pissed Off Video Gamer a review unit if he is still alive.

I don't know how gaming can exist as a hobby when the tools to game are getting so expensive and that's before we layer on the price of the games themselves. How much longer does the industry have left?
Next generation is really going to be make or break for the entire console industry. Probably not a chance that Microsoft, SONY, and Nintendo all survive the next wave of consoles. At this point Xbox might not even make it beyond this current generation. And will they continue to push for Game Pass and other subscription services and "live" games instead of the traditional models. And gaming PCs might be even further out of reach for the average consumer.

If these A.I. warehouses keep being built it's not looking great for hardware prices.

What do the numbers even look like? Are people even buying the next gen cod anymore (for example, I hope you know what I mean)? I don't want to sound like a sperg, but video game writing while it has never been good has never really recovered from the depths that it fell after 2016.

Furthermore are there any games left (that are coming out) even worth buying? Big tent games, the only one that I can think of is GTA 6 (and who knows when that will be finished or even if will be good). Long gone are the games that kade the purchase of a particular console worth it for the average consumer. I think most consumers will spend the $700-$1000 if the library is worth it but frankly, is it?

Good. Let Valve suffer. They didn't learn from the Steam Machine and Steam Index? Let them rot.

Now, let's see Deadlock fail too because modern Valve is not the same Valve 10 years ago.

Yeah, I was going to get one of these to replace my 5+ year old PC but they can fuck off with that pricing. I got a Steamdeck toward the tail end of last year and I really like it but I wouldn't buy one at the new price either.

Valve seem to want to speedrun burning any good will they've built up over the years. Even their "big" seasonal sales suck now because you can just go on dlcompare or whatever and find a cheaper CD key for most stuff any day of the year.

DOA. It's fucked. Of course, since *Valve* is selling this, everyone will defend this retarded dogshit.
Valve is a bunch of greedy fuckin yids, every goddamned console company sells the systems as loss leaders, because GAMES is what generates the actual profit. I suppose this is just a sign of Valve turning to slow shit.

Reminder that Valve doesn't have any new games to speak of that they've made. Their most recent one is CS2, and it released into hot shit because they REPLACED CS:GO. And Deadlock, but it's in alpha stage and people are having hero-shooter fatigue at this point.

People defending Valve at every moment are the most ZOGged out retarded niggercattle imaginable lmfao

"It's okay if my favorite monopolistic megacorp does it!!!"

Sucks that they've gotten this way, but alas, that's the way she goes bud. Way of the road lol

They've always been this way. It's just taken forever for the Valve and Gabe worshipers to not have control over the narrative. But all it will take is Half Life 3 for the status quo to return and people fawning over them slavishly. I still laugh hard at the army of morons posting on reddit defending Gabe for owning seven yachts and an entire yacht company by raking in 30% of every sale.
