That wouldn't work, the Microsoft Store version of Netflix apparently has additional DRM that WINE wouldn't be able to handle. @Dead Lion 's original point was there is a feature gap that commonfolk normies would expect their new gaming console to be able to play Netflix and Hulu like their other gaming console can. Before you spout off on it being a PC, if someone is buying this with the intent of using it like a console, where they set it up on their TV and forget it, then they are not going to treat it like a PC. It is effectively a gaming console to them, no different than a Switch or PS5.Isn't this equally a problem for Windows then??? If not, I bet you could fix this by running windows version through proton.
I never heard of this problem at all, but I also never try 4k either
Nigga are you high? Have you tried to build a PC in the last few years? All the "deals" are going to big companies. Valve is not that. Hardware is a sidegig. Yes this price sucks. I'm surprised it's not higher. If Valve couldnt get parts deals for their hardware then they shouldn't be in the hardware business
Yes it is, so what's the point? Valve selling kitch Valve branded shit to their fans? Like who else is this going for? You arent gonna convince people who dont have a PC to buy this so it doesnt serve the same purpose it does for the Console manufacturers. Like there ain't anyone loading up Steams app on their phone and going "finally I can see what Half Life is about on this Steam Machine"Nigga are you high? The point is you don't understand hardware, production, scale. Sony is able to say the can sell 50 million consoles minimum because they always have been in hardware. The companies trust them to make good on that promise due to their reputation and record. Valve selling digital copies does not say that. They have to earn it. Buisness isn't a charity. You don't have to buy it, but you shouldn't be surprised that it costs PC prices.Yes it is, so what's the point? Valve selling kitch Valve branded shit to their fans? Like who else is this going for? And Valve has a monopoly on digital distribution on PC, if they cant make a deal then they have no business entering this field.
Its not even about making a deal, it's that they choose the worst moment and didn't learn anything from the steam machines back in 2014.And Valve has a monopoly on digital distribution on PC, if they cant make a deal
The thing we're not talking about is that the new SteamOS now runs on generic hardware with the release that came with the Steam Machine. So not only does the Steam Machine exist, 3rd party Steam Machines and DIY Steam Machines are now possible. So, at least there's that.At this point I'm actually more excited for SteamOS and see how it works with random pieces of hardware.
The people behind that utility for Steam Deck, EmuDeck, did just that: a 3rd party Steam Machine for the living room. I've been trying to get some info on it, but orders for it are cancelled due to the market fuckery with storage and memory components. Steam Machine is still cheaper than this though...The thing we're not talking about is that the new SteamOS now runs on generic hardware with the release that came with the Steam Machine. I don't know how gaming can exist as a hobby when the tools to game are getting so expensive and that's before we layer on the price of the games themselves. I have seen flights to Asia from the USA cheaper than this.Over a grand without a controller and 512gb… insane shit.
Yeah, they should have predicted a massive surge in hardware prices driven by a boom in data centres like in 2014.anything from the steam machines back in 2014
You're right, I don't know what I'm talking about. The only PC games I play are at least 16 years old and I've never felt the urge to use a controller on older PC games. To me sitting at a desk to play them is like a little ritual that I alone enjoy, I guess.Steam machine definitely has issues, but steam controller is absolutely successful. The fact you compare it to another regular controller shows you don't know what you are talking about, sc works well doing both controller and keyboard setup games
It's fucking bad nigga, though not unprecedented. It's the 80s all over again. PC's came out, were very expensive, and slowly dropped in price until the 2000s and 2010's. Around the crypto boom and the wide scale adoption of SSD's is when they slowly started ticking back up. AI massively accelerated this.I don't know how gaming can exist as a hobby when the tools to game are getting so expensive and that's before we layer on the price of the games themselves. How much longer does the industry have left?
