All of those things are called Steam so is not that different ...
Anyways my post was not about selling is about Gabe's bootlickers.
First of all fuck your homosexual black text. Second, making a brand new blend of pc and console viability, steam os, helping with proton, steam input, steam vr, and everything else is far, far harder than making "PlayStation again but better specs". I'll give PlayStation a little credit that they did more with their controller than shitbox has, but don't pretend making 2 iterations on the same shit is ANYWHERE CLOSE to making 2 basically brand new products doing what nobody else does at the time.

The sad part is that Valve really did price all the parts for pretty much as low as they could go:

Sadly they had the 2024 mindset for PC Part Prices until the AI Wave took all their supply. Paying a premium of $71 for Top Tier Customer Support would be worth it but god damn do pc part prices suck right now.

Lol Calm down

its worse than a fucking base ps5
We all knew it was under ps5 specs, but its almost equal performance
why do people keep saying this. The CPU smokes the PS5 and you can run FSR4 on RDNA3 soon and it has more overall memory (8gb video + 16gb ram versus shared 16gb on ps5). Compare this to the 900 dollar ps5 pro where you still have to pay for online, a disc drive, and dont have steam library, isn't a computer, and even the raped price point still has more value over sony.

I don't know...

I was hyped for Steam Machine but no way in hell I'm buying this. I guess one could argue it's because I already have a PC, but honestly if I had a PS5 I'd probably still side eye it.

If Valve couldnt get parts deals for their hardware then they shouldn't be in the hardware business

why do people keep saying this?
Because it's true. The Steam Machine is worse than a basic PS5. And far worse than a PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X. But even more aggravating is that the Steam Machine doesn't even include something as basic and necessary as a controller. And the Steam Machine lacks a disc drive which some of the consoles feature so you can play older games or watch movies on DVD or Blu Ray. It's priced far too high for what it offers. And the other consoles are already at ludicrous prices.

Ah yes, a disc drive for all the PC games you're buying on a disc in 2026. Like, I get where you're coming from, but not only do most people playing on PC not own physical PC games, you can easily get a disc drive that plugs into USB for like $20.

The Steam Machine is showing disappointing performance in games.

:stress:
Those frame time graphs seem way too consistent, basically always 16.67 or 33.33ms. Which if you don't know matches exactly with 30fps or 60fps but not the shown fps numbers. Even if this is legit they're measuring frame times wrong. I am suspicious of this.

I've never heard of obs doing this
He's talking about Netflix and Hulu. Tons of people use their consoles for those things and desktop OSes do not have widevine support for 4k streaming. Netflix literally will playback at 480p because fuck you you are watching on Chrome or Firefox or whatever!

Also I really wanted to like the Steam Machine, I have friends who are PC phobic and I was hoping this would be a good way to get them into the Steam ecosystem from their couch. At $1k for these specs I literally cannot justify it.

All I need to build yet another PC is a mainboard and PSU.
Exactly. Plus...isn't the point of PC games to have the tighter keyboard/mouse controls? Who wants a controller anyway? Just buy a console then.
Some games play better with a controller than a keyboard and mouse, and you can use the controller in a standing position, or sitting or laying on a couch, with no desk in front of you.

Steam machine can still do both, and steam controller is an excellent middle ground.

How well does it work using keyboard and mouse mobily? Oh hell naw

How well does a (normal) controller work for pc games? Oh hell naw.

Steam machine definitely has issues, but steam controller is absolutely successful. The fact you compare it to another regular controller shows you don't know what you are talking about, sc works well doing both controller and keyboard setup games
Weaker than a PS5 and more expensive than a PS5 pro. horry shit, Stadia 2.0

They must have been high when they approved this piece of shit.
I don't think it will quite be a stadia level failure, but definitely not as successful. But like I said 3\4 steam hardware being good shit is fair enough.

Isn't this equally a problem for Windows then??? If not, I bet you could fix this by running windows version through proton.

I never heard of this problem at all, but I also never try 4k either

It's almost just like the first steam machine back in 2015, over priced and under delivering, expect at least this time valve didn't do any shitty brand deals (remember the Alienware steam machine? If you do you're probably better off forgetting about it). Look it will do better than half a million units in the first 6 months, which is an improvement on the 2015 release. The fact you can play 90% of the steam library on it is cool.

For the same price as the 2TB steam machine I can actually buy a brand new decent gaming laptop that will run pretty much anything at almost as well as the steam machine or better. And that price is including the baked in window license fee, not to mention it gets you something portable and self contained. So as a value proposition the steam machine seems pretty bad to me.

There is a market for this product. It's the sort of gift I would buy for someone who likes to game, owns a dying old PC and they want just want to be able to plug this in to their monitor and play and never worry about building their own PC or anything like that.

But if I had to pick one word to describe the steam machine it's this: casual. Maybe that's the only market segment that it makes sense for them to go for though, I don't know.
