Id say 750$ is still a big ask for a console like this.
Is this thing pretty high range in specs?
Its 6 times a steam deck, which has been my main gaming device for a while, and in top 20% of steam hardware surveys, so 1 in 5 steam users its an OBJECTIVE hardware improvement. Its not THE best, but its pretty good.
Valve already tried this garbage with the alienware alpha and the steam machines and even as the previous owner of one the only positive things i can say is that it was cheap and decently powered for it's time, but this isn't it.
Hardware wise it wasn't awful then, it was software limitations, which have largely been fixed

its worse than a fucking base ps5
Hardware wise yes, but software wise pound for pound, I think steam os beats it. That said if you have a ps5 to turn into a steam machine, just do that.

I don't think it will fail as much as old steam hardware, but will be less successful than deck

Don't know about that, especially for the kind of goyim that would be interested in a console. The lack of streaming services (they all gimp linux to 720p, some even to 480p) and popular consolenigger games like Fifa or fortnite would be a huge drawback even at the original $600 price.

It's a product for nobody, and I'm usually the biggest valve dickrider around.

I am very glad we got this 1100 dollarydoo doorstop instead of

  • Half life 3
  • Portal 3
  • Left 4 Dead 3
  • Anything that's not dotaslop
  • Fixes for CS or TF
  • Day of Defeat anything
  • Source 2 remaster of literally anything
  • Any game whatsoever
Yes I am salty, yes I am bitter, yes I am right yet again.

A fucking linux fork isn't worth the retard tax on this thing.
Plus you can install it on any hardware or use one of the other variants like Bazzite.

Its basically laptop hardware in a small box and I remembered some of the Chinese mini-PC manufacturers were slapping laptop mobos into screenless cases and selling them as mini gaming PCs. I remember thinking the prices were a bit steep for what it was but looking at the steam machine now and they don't look so bad in comparison. You could probably find something cheaper in the same formfactor if you are willing to go dumpster diving on aliexpress for weird chinesium.

If Valve doesn't have a new, flagship software title to launch alongside the Steam Machine, this is DOA. Deadlock ain't gonna cut it.

Gabe fans will spent the months saying is all AI fault , that this console was going to be 400 bucks with everything.
When is easier to understand that the company that sell games loicence trick them.
Considering 2 out of 3 recent steam hardware projects have been smash hits, and steam vr isn't out yet, they are doing pretty good.

I knew this was going to happen. They basically signaled it with a giant red neon sign when Valve restocked the Steam Decks with a huge mark up. Over a grand for the base model without a controller made any potential appeal this had over a DIY PC banish into thin air.

That's mean little when Sony has like 5-6 Smash hits .
This is retarded when you are comparing an iterative series of hardware that doesn't change up much. If sony WASN'T making their PlayStations a smash hits selling it at a loss, it would be an objective failure. And everything past ps1 is granted, of course ps2 , 3, 4, 5, will do well, because it has a huge fan base, and not much changes.

However steam deck was a COMPLETELY new thing. Steam controller, completely new, or at least completely unique.

So a steam deck, steam controller, and I assume steam VR being successful is far more noteworthy than "its da next PlayStation or ecks bawks" , because those are expected to succeed, as they aren't REALLY even new, they are iterative and have been for years.

Its like congratulating fifa of cod for selling well ... again... Compared to something like silksong.

All of those things are called Steam so is not that different ...
Anyways my post was not about selling is about Gabe's bootlickers.

I remember reading somewhere that Gabe Newell said he wished Valve could be more like Nintendo. He mentioned that it would open up a lot of opportunities to have more control over the hardware.

If he really wants that, Valve needs to go back to making games that can drive hardware sales. The reason Nintendo could still charge $400 for a Switch 8 years after its launch is that they made games people wanted to play on it.

The reason the Index flopped was because no one wanted to drop $900 on a niche piece of hardware that's only good for one game. To this day, the only VR games anyone talks about is HLX and Beatsaber.

They're creatively bankrupt. Or maybe, its Gabe's own management style that is preventing Valve from actually putting anything out.
