i'm glad to see you with some actually truthfully interesting stuff. i agree this could be a lot of gays. i think SOME of the 'gay' pictures is just a photographer or sketcher wanting to do a unique piece, and posing the people there for it. that's one of the big reasons no one ever smiled in pictures back then is because of how long any type of portrait took. you'd fuck up a photograph if you moved in a few-minute-span, and a family portraitist would just capture you and your family's details, not worrying about the way you smiled or anything. pictures that depict people in candid scenarios didn't really emerge until photography advanced to the point where the slightly movement didn't ruin the entire plate. i highly suggest checking out plate photography techniques sometime, that shit is nuts! and, it even still gets practiced today, so we know it's real!
