Lots of nice "line goes up" short term gain with a massive hangover on the back end. Governments everywhere seem to have forgotten WHY it was so strictly regulated. Its a bigger issue then just basic morality. The economic consequences of people blowing their savings and potential future investments and earnings on gambling can have catastrophic macroeconomic consequences if the activity is allowed to proliferate generally among the population and over time.

I moved cross-country with one a couple decades ago towing the smallest U-Haul they make, and the fucking thing fought the whole way, and dropped its gearbox on the ground at highway speeds halfway there. Sounds like they're screening outbound domestic flights now. It'd be awesome to see TSA get shut down entirely and replaced with ICE. If you work at a good company (small-to-medium), working in-office a couple days a week is fine. At my last job, we did that, and in-office days were fun. We absolutely didn't work 8 hours a day. We fucked around (including the owner and manager) periodically, told jokes, played games together, took our time at lunch, etc. In exchange for that, when we were working, we were the best in the business and got shit done.

Then don't work there. I don't think people who can work from home realize how spoiled they come off. If you're showing up in the morning, dicking around for a bit, then dipping out, you've already commuted so it's extra stupid and to anyone who works a "real" job it sounds insane.
This is the main selling point for me, if I had a terrible commute I'd push for work from home and/or begin finding another job if the job wasn't worth fixing the commute for. The thing with the jobs that can work from home is that they can also be flexible and show up earlier/later and leave earlier/later to minimize the commute. Kids complicate that though since school hours aren't flexible and often are part of that commute.
The EU has been using these tech fines as a way to rob US tech companies for years at this point. At first it might have seemed righteous but it's now obvious that it's about exerting influence over these companies because they're otherwise out of reach. All of the EU/UK bureaucrats want complete control and the internet messes that up.
Its the anti human nature of it. People are social animals and if you and your coworkers are not physically together in some sort of cohesive work place, its difficult to actually become invested in more esoteric things like "The corporation succeeding" or "Help John with a task because his wife got sick and he's behind".
