It only gets worse, it never gets better, and the meds have horrible side effects like organ damage, and they only slow it down

At least in terms of symptom management it looks like they can improve with newer therapies that help the metabolism of the brain. I'm not sure about what impact it would have on the physical effects (don't think that's been studied yet, but metabolic therapies have been studied for MS and other neuro degenerative disorders so who knows) but there is some promising research that's worth highlighting.

With other researchers looking at schizophrenia specifically here and here and discussion on mechanisms here.

Granted there still needs to be larger trials with controls (I think they're looking to do some RCTs but they take a while) but there is actually progress being made on the "never gets better" part. And with fewer side effects.
