As far as technology goes it can be assumed that the very best closed LLM models that companies like OpenAI and Claude are using are roughly in the 1T MoE range, maybe more if they're simply bruteforcing the intellect problem with sheer memory. The speed of inference suggests that it's roughly that size or smaller perhaps, but they're also running them in massive data centers with machines probably dedicated to individual layers of the model so who knows. The open source model community has done leaps and bounds in developing quantitization for LLMs (lowering the models from their full size, usually FP8 down to 4 bits, 2 bits, even 1+ bit for the idiots) which easily cuts memory usage in half while keeping performance within 1% of the original model (for FP8 -> 4 bit). I believe it was Google that created post-quantitization training to lower that percentage even further to match the original model.
