Do you know the biggest story detail that proves to me this whole thing was crap? Vigors. In bioshock 1 and 2 the plasmids were a crucial story and lore element that explained the downfall of rapture, it was this borderline magical gene altering substance that could grant the user super powers but at the cost of turning them into junkies for the stuff, we see how such at first great innovation is used to turn the city into a hellscape, but vigors nah that shit has no negative drawbacks. So I ask the question why are vigors in this game? They are here becuase it’s a bioshock game you gotta have your plasmids, but they feel like such an afterthought. In fact that describes most of the writing in this game, an afterthought, like you said we were promised actual political intrigue, comstock wasn’t supposed to be a straw man cooky religious leader but a charismatic politician who’s ideals drew him support, but the writers wanted to comment on something I guess so they just made him a boring villain whose motives are more shallow than a puddle. You could consider bioshock infinite as borderline false adverstising.
Also according to the games own lore, the tech used to make Colombia was something that was created independent of comstock, which means that a form of Colombia would still exist even if booker didn’t exist becuase the technology was something he didn’t make.
The explanation of how vigors exist is also lame as fuck in-game. Just like literally everything else in Columbia, it was stolen from someone else by an evil HUWITE MAN. That's it.
