It's more of a problem for small engines with carburetors, and I guess older cars/trucks that have them as well. The gas absorbs moisture from the air and as it sits in the carb all kinds of undesirable things can happen, be it parts of the carburetor rusting/corroding, holes and lines getting gunked up, but that also happens with ethanol free, just at a slower rate. Ideally if a carbureted engine is going to sit you run it til everything is hot, drain the tank, then let it run until it's out of gas. If you don't do that before putting it up for the winter that's why your weedeater or chainsaw is a bitch and a half to crank come spring (and also that oil-gas blend likes to sludge up if it sits)
Ethanol gas also ruins most small gas motors like lawnmowers and generators.

For a Democrat sweep? It's estimated to be between my_biasd_guess% and nobody_knows%. Realistically Republicans are looking better this year than previous midterms after winning the presidency. Historically, they poll like shit and then lose after winning a presidential election so some Democrats paying attention are spooked, this year was supposed to be a easy win. But that's not a lot to go off of, come June/July we'll have a better idea of how things are going.

If you ever spill latex paint and need to clean it up alcohol is the equivalent of of paint thinner for latex paints. I keep a gallon jug of hand sanitizer in my truck for wiping up small spills and dribbles at work
