I dont have a recording, obviously, but I’ve heard a few fantastic covers done by acoustic buskers or musicians I knew.
- as a wedding present, one guy made a medley of the couples favourite songs and played them on the church organ as everyone came in and sat down. He was so, so talented, he’d arranged almost all of them himself and it made everyone sing along. Truly one of the nicest weddings I’ve ever been to.
- a young lady in a town in Sweden playing what I think was a key harp (i have just looked it up it is a ‘nyckelharpa’ and it’s the only time I’ve ever seen anyone play one, it’s a bit like a hurdy gurdy but different) ’ , playing what I assumed was traditional music, and then suddenly doing bullet with butterfly wings . Worked really well.

Songwriter Chip Taylor (real name James Wesley Voight, brother of actor Jon Voight and uncle of Angelina Jolie) died from cancer on March 23rd, 2026, two days after his 86th birthday.

One of the most famous songs which Chip Taylor wrote is "Wild Thing", originally recorded by an American rock band called The Wild Ones in 1965 but the version of "Wild Thing" that most people remember was recorded by British rock band the Troggs in 1966.

I honestly didn't know that there was a music video for the Troggs cover version of "Wild Thing" filmed in Odenplan subway station in Stockholm, Sweden.

However, the first version of "Wild Thing" that I remember hearing actually wasn't the Troggs version, it's a rather silly cover version of it by British comedy trio The Goodies since my father had an LP of theirs.

Because of the Goodies, I grew up thinking the line "Come on baby, hold me tight." was followed by the line "Not quite that tight."
