Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Final Fantasy VII was terrible. The pacing, the lackluster writing, the battles were boring. It's not even that I hate JRPGs. It's just that I don't get why anyone would want VII with so many much better RPG titles on the same console.

While I do like Final Fantasy VII, I much prefer Final Fantasy IX. Brilliant game that was IMO.

Considering the game's ratings and how much reviewers liked it I sorta consider this an unpopular opinion. But I don't like Rage.

To put it bluntly Rage is dumb.

I sorta got behind the idea of Rage, being a post apocalyptic Mad-Max style game. The only problem is that Borderlands and Fallout 3 did it first. Indeed while playing Rage it feels just like playing Borderlands without cel shaded graphics and the humor.

The lack of humor is what startled me with Rage. All the character are stock action movie grizzled veterans, the plot is extremely generic, almost everything about it is treated like the characters are incapable of laughing at their ridiculous situation.

There are good things about it, I mean the gunplay is alright and the maps are spectacularly detailed. But all the maps are tediously linear and while there are reasons to backtrack through them, you wouldn't want to. That's not even mentioning the technical problems with the game's engine, many of which still exist and have yet to be patched out

I question why this game was made and why Id would stoop so low to just make a more generic Borderlands with Call of Duty elements. One that feels like nobody put any time or attention into detail and just surgically inserted elements because they thought it would sell better.

Rage was ok, but not something I would play often, I would rather play Doom.

Skyrim is well... clunky.
before skyrim I used to playall the time Arena, Morrowind and Oblivion(with mods). and when I play skyrim, it just didn't feel right. like the menu for items wasn't as accessible as the previous games and the fact weapons don't degrade no more just makes it feel to easy.
I like the idea of storm cloaks though.

There's really nothing good about Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow nowadays; they've aged so horribly that they're not worth playing. The sprites are hideous, the game balance is broken beyond belief, and there's so many ways for the game to completely shit itself. FireRed and LeafGreen are the only good way to experience Generation I Pokemon. Gold and Silver are at least fairly playable, but the remakes blow them out of the water.

Also, Dragonite is the dumbest fucking Dragon-type ever. You have this awesome, elegant blue serpent, and then it evolves into something you'd see on Barney & Friends. It's not even the fact that it's adorable that gets me (I think Goodra might be my new favorite Pokemon, and that thing's cuter than a pair of kittens), it's just a really uninspired design that comes out of nowhere.

I say this because my friend is a Genwunner and he's really been pissing me off lately.

I always have at one point or another really pissed off folk for my opinions on certain games or consoles, these have always made people foam at the mouth when I talk about them. I could really go into details but I will just give a tiny summary of my opinion of each.

Final fantasy 8 - Before 13, I found this to have some of the most unlikable characters I have ever seen in an rpg, as well as terrible writing. (13 topped 8 in both how bad you can write a story, and how unlikable you can make main characters)

Fable 1. - while I don't hate the game, I always found it to be mediocrity at its absolute prettiest. For a Wrpg it had demo sized content.

Nintendo Wii. - for a Nintendo console it had the absolute shittiest library compared to its predecessors and competition, as well as the unfriendliest multiplayer interface I have suffered through.

I think Harvest Moon is one of the most boring video game series of all time, i just don't see the appeal.

Also, i liked Duke Nukem Forever, and i think most of the problems with that game came from when Gearbox took development, a lot of stuff was cut from the game (and later re-used as part of the singleplayer DLC), and Gearbox promising an SDK for the game to later lock the console through patches and cutting the SDK from the game made things worse.

There are very popular mods that replace the menu. There's also another one that mods back item degradation.

-With Fable 1 I don't consider it "mediocre" by any stretch of the word. Mostly because it's sequels got way worse and showed how actually mediocre a hack and slash could get. I dunno if you're referring to the original Xbox release of Fable 1 (which yes had very shitty amounts of content) but when the Lost Chapters debuted it added a great deal of content that was cut prior to release and bumped the game length to a respectable amount.

-With the Nintendo Wii, literally the only reason I got it was to play softmodded Gamecube games and virtual console games. For that purpose the console is actually pretty good and it has a few good first party titles like Punch Out! and Resident Evil 4. It's not the best console mind you but for the price you can get it today (around 60$ maybe) and how easily you can mod it, it's pretty alright.

Fable 1 - I was referring to the original, not the lost chapters. Yeah the sequels got even worse. To be fair I never did play lost chapters so I will take your word for it.

Wii. - I will agree with when you mod it its not as bad. Considering how anal retentive Nintendo is about hacking their handhelds you would think they would have an even stronger security on their console. Also yes, they do have a few good original games on the Wii. Way I meant was fanboys think its an amazing console over its competition when in reality well... Yeah.

FF8. - just remember how much shit spoony had to hear from FF fanboys when he made the series. The only thing I would disagree with him to a degree about FF8 was the gameplay and leveling up stuff, triple triad made item and spell manipulation very easy. As far as character and plot, to me he couldn't have been more spot on.

Saint's Row 2 is the best in the series.

I really liked Castlevania 64 and its director's cut.

Ocaina of Time is inferior to Majora's Mask.
