Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

That game, and Ico, were total garbage.
They're overrated, often making it into top 10 PS2 games lists, but I definitely wouldn't classify them as garbage. SotC in particular is pretty good for how epic and unique it was at the time, the music is really good too. I only killed the first colossus because I sucked at it, but I like what they were going for.

Simulated scanlines in emulators and such look like shit and I cannot fathom why so many people like them.

We finally have the technology to make old games look brighter and crisper and clearer than anyone could've ever imagined in 1990, so clearly we need add a filter to make it look like you're playing through a fucking screen door without ACTUALLY replicating any of the qualities of a CRT display.
They never do look right. They always look like they were designed after really shitty TVs. The ones in Rare Replay look like they were modeled after a cheap TV from the early 80s that someone left on for 20 years. I grew up with a medium-large RCA TV my mom bought at Target in the mid 90s. It looked way better than any CRT filter.

Fair enough, though I tried Ico on a demo disc when it was new and I remember the internet gushing about it at the time. Even back then I felt like "Uh, this is it?", and today I feel like "lmao I will never play that".

Ico is like an escort quest from what little I've played and what I've heard. I wouldn't hold it against anyone to write it off lol. I am mixed on escort quests, sometimes they're okay like Emma in MGS2 or Ashley in RE4, but making a whole game out of it seems like a mistake.

I still wanna try to play through it at some point but I'm in no rush.

I bought it back in the day. There are some neat environmental puzzles and the character animations are very impressive for a PS2 game, but the controls are kind of fiddly, many puzzles are slow and tedious, and combat really sucks.

It's fine, but you wouldn't be missing out on much if you skipped it.

The "developer's intended way" of Dark Souls story is actually good but lore autists make it all gay instead. You're not supposed to have access to literally everything in a single playthrough or read bullshit online by people make six figures shilling videos. You're supposed to see an environment, fight its boss(es), pick up a few items, maybe get a singular rare drop per area, and then turn the boss soul into a piece of the lore of King Fucktard or Knight Faggot. So you get a few little pieces in design and item descriptions on top of anything directly said and you sort of make sense of it in your head. You mostly write the story based off of how you played. It's neat and simple that gets fucked five ways by people insisting there be something more than that. The story to the games is NES tier "world sucks and here's a two sentence framing of your actions" that gameplay is supposed to fill in for.

All the contradictory shit and things lost to development isn't some massive planned anything. It just doesn't matter to the game itself or the story you're supposed to make up anyways.

I like games like ICO and SOTC because "Collectors" are trying to collect that and not the games I'm looking for in used shops.
"Haul" and "pickup" videos on social media make me want to hit people.

Lester the unlikely doesn't run in ZSNES.

If you told me the game was a fake I would believe you. It's really fucking weird.

Over time, Lester stops being a stumbling fuckface, but the game never really gets "good".

I fucking hate kirby.

All I have to say to this is fuck Vaatividya. That annoying faggot with his shitty machinima styled videos blowing up the way he/they did is what got us to the point we're at now with these games.

People see what this retard says in his videos and take it as gospel. Even though all the cunt did was read reddit posts and item descriptions. Coming to, largely, the same conclusions everyone else who's ever tried to make sense of the story has.

How any of these retards make bank simply talking about someone else's work is baffling to me. Especially when vaati does shit like make an art book full of OTHER PEOPLES ART AND SELLS IT. Like what the fuck? And then people praise him for it like he's the one who spent 1k hours making the art.

Yes, I'm mad on the internet over faggoty video game tubers.

Why are you using ZSNES
I like ZSNES. I'm also fairly stupid and don't understand any of the shit people are saying in articles. For instance, what the fuck is a libretto core?

Like when people talk about cycles my eyes glaze over.
Apparently ZSNES has exploits though, so I guess I will stop using it.

A Libretro core is an emulator that has had all the parts you interact with stripped out, leaving only the part that actually emulates. The idea is that you use a frontend (RetroArch is the official frontend of the Libretro project) and plugin the core of the system you want to emulate. Think of the frontend like an old console and changing cores is like swapping cartridges in and out.

If you absolutely must use ZSNES, this fork is still being actively developed. You need to build it from source, though, and I don't know if it works on Windows. The other two that I mentioned are also actively developed and have Windows versions ready to go.

Kirby fills the same niche as Mario near-perfectly- arguably even better- and still manages to differentiate itself with each new entry.
Kirby's Adventure > SMB 3, anyone fite me. I love both and both are milestones of their genre (plus two of the best looking games on their system) but KA has a certain something that SMB3. Is it the physics? Even better and more "costumes"? I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it's there. Kirby games are great in general, if the Switch ever gets its price cut in half i get one just for that latest Kirby game.

In addition, it wasn't Vaati who did most of the lore-digging. He's just a clout chaser who took some tidbits of lore documents, like that one document detailing Bloodborne lore into a pdf/book-sized document, and just broke the information into his own jigsaw puzzle for people to see that he formed it himself, even though others did it before him.

It's definitely not the physics, SMB3 shits on every other similar platformer, even SMW. The one thing it has over SMB3 is graphics, it could almost pass as a TG-16 game, it looks almost as good as Bonk's Adventure.

Tiberian Sun is the most overrated game in the C&C franchise
I have a hard time trusting anyone who doesn't say the OG or Red Alert. Not that I'm saying it's good, but everything at and after Red Alert 2 just felt like shit. Generals was okay for a while, but nothing ever felt... I don't know the word, so I'll just say "felt right."

I'll admit though, that my retarded side can enjoy Red Alert 3 because of Tim Curry's hammy acting and the flanderization of the Empire faction. Is it serious; no, it's a fucking joke... ... ... and I'll laugh while I play it... because I'm a retard.

Granted Red Alert 1 is a quick cashgrab with minimal effort, but while Tiberian Dawn might not aged most gracefully, it's still not that bad, up until that time you can only compare it to Warcraft 1 and Dune II, and I am sure as shit will pick Tiberian Dawn over them.

Blame SAGE ( Strategy Action Game Engine ), don't know what shithead at EA thought that essentially PC only game engine in 2000s needs to not only be 30 fps locked but also all of its function tied to said FPS lock but they just went with it, I'll still say that Tiberium Wars is still tied as my favorite in the franchise together with RA2, despite dog shit technical decisions.
that my retarded side can enjoy Red Alert 3
Yes, it can be enjoyed, hell, I can even say good things about it, unfortunately not a single of these praises are going to make it a good game.
flanderization of the Empire faction
I'd say that the one who suffered from flanderization is the Soviet Union, the main plot of the campaign mimics Yuri's from previous game with few short stroke changes, that and also voice acting which went downhill into pure farcical clown fair, and both soviets and empire end up being butt of the joke anyway.

I think saying the games have shit controls or 'cheap' difficulty is a bit of exaggeration. There are only a few moments in the various games I would consider outright unfair, with most of the strenuous difficulty encountered in my first run of each game came from lack of skill or knowledge of the game mechanics.
You're talking about DS1? Because none of this describes DS1.
