If I were Toby, this is how I would imply Kris is male: his dark world room gains two tiny new sprites on the night stand next to his bed. One is a tissue box and the other, next to the box, is a framed photo of Susie. Examining his bed reveals that a few used tissues are scattered across the floor, ending up under the bed. Fans will deny any suggestive meanings and will just say he uses the tissues to wipe his cucked tears.
How I would imply Kris is female : when Kris wakes up and gets out of bed next chapter, there is a vague reddish spot on the mattress where she was lying down. Fans would furiously discuss whether it's blood from Kris cutting herself, red soul residue, or if Kris actually had a period. Periods are out of the question though because that would imply Kris has tme privilege
