Apparently from what I've heard there's a weird route "Chapter 7 side B" if you go through with it on Chapter 5. Now I haven't played the Chapter 5 Weird Route yet, but will it permanently fuck up your other save files? Is this another Undertale scenario where if you do something it permanently gets messed up (at the very least are your NON-weird route save files okay?)
Someone on Reddit had a look at the games code and they noticed it made a note you've completed the scene in the universal save file, the system the game uses to show you've beaten the secret bosses so you can get their shit from under the cliff in castle town. It's very likely following the route to that point is gonna affect your saves to some extent
All this has me wondering: What the hell is going on behind the scenes? How did all the wheels fall off at the same time? It can't have just been a rush job, since Ch 5 was in development for a long time alongside 3 and 4. Was the whole budget spent on getting the platformer system working? Did Toby Fox start doing ayahuasca retreats?

Am I getting that right? 8 years (and counting) of development and story telling and the highlight of the newest chapter is two lesbian furries having a romance?
Since I'm the only motherfucker in this thread that only has a weird route save on hand.
You sleep through the whole festival until Toriel wakes you up, Susie tells Kris Noelle's waiting at the lake. While going through town, she tells how much fun she had at the festival with Noelle and how nice she was to her, and getting to the lake gives an encouragement to Kris telling that he actually is a good friend, too. You walk forward and see Noelle that went completely bonkers (yandeer, if you will), saying she liked the feeling of power and says how she want to be free with you together, then drags you to the lake with your only option to proceed ("stop" does nothing). Screen shakes and goes blank, "see you in next chapter!"
By its own? Absolute kino of a scene. As a product? I didn't wait a year just for this shit alone.
I played this sequence last night and didn’t realize that the dialogue box pops up with the option to select “proceed” as they begin to drown. I let it fade to white and then Noelle starts saying “I thought I changed,” “I thought you changed,” “but nothing changed,” with slightly altered versions of the lake shore scenes between her and Susie interspersed before showing Kris asleep at the bench with Susie coming back with ice cream. Then the game goes on as normal. Apparently you can abort the weird route at this point too.

I’m almost done with the normal route, haven’t done weird yet. I just wanted to say…
I hate Toby so goddamn much. Not in a funny-haha “oh that stinker” kinda of way, I genuinely hate him. If this doesn’t get better fast, I may end up dropping the game entirely. Never, ever trust a gooner.
Imagine catching lightning in a bottle becoming a cultural phenomenon, gushing about your dream game magnum opus, and it's lesbian troon gooner game
Defenders are going to say "it's supposed to make you care about the characters" but it's so shittily done and poorly paced, just like I didn't give a fuck about the fate of the worthless townies in Steven universe, I didn't give a fuck about the fate of the cast of the clussy show, and I don't give a fuck about the fate of the townies of Deltarune, fuck I'm about to start the roaring myself. "Gaster btfo chapter 5 so hard the entity's new life goal is destroying Kris' life making Kris miserable in the most petty ways possible for entertainment"
I think that the "extradimensional entity puppeteering your body making you say to the girl that you have a crush on that the other girl who was your childhood crush will definitely be great with her and have a lasting relationship while you try to exert what little power you have to stop it" is Toby genuinely breaking new ground in the NTR fetish genre.
Nigger, what the fuck.
I want to believe that Tricky Tony has some semblance of self-awareness, and isn't just doing all this to fap, because Jesus Christ this shit must be unimaginably horrible for Kris.
I think I'm understanding what the "point" of Noelle is now.
Noelle exists purely to be a love interest for Susie, and I don't mean that in the sense that Toby is just drooling for lesbians again (Though, I don't deny that's probably a partial reason), I mean Noelle seems to be purposefully written to hit all the stereotypes of a character who just exists to loves the MC, and for the MC to love back.
She has minimal screentime because she's not a character in the story of Deltarune, she's a character in the romantic life of Susie, and whenever the story wants to focus on literally anything else, Noelle is shafted.
Carol and Dess are involved in the plot, while Noelle herself is not. It raises the stakes for Susie because she might end up having to fight her girlfriend's mom, or find a way to save her girlfriend's sister, or be sad for her girlfriend that either of them died or something.
Speaking of, let's talk about Rudy falling down! A huge tragedy for Noelle I'm sure, but do we follow her to see Rudy or spend much time with her after she hears the news? Nope. Only time will tell, but something tells me Rudy falling down is going to be another plot point in story of DeltaSuselle. How Susie's girlfriend's father died, and now Susie's relationship with her girlfriend is frayed.
Of course, there is one point where Noelle is more than just Susie's girlfriend whose dialogue is 80% "I love dinosaurs". Everyone here agrees that Weird Route Noelle, despite having the same amount of screentime is a far more interesting character than Normal Route Noelle. That monologue that Noelle gives during Chapter 5 WR is VERY enlightening
"Watching someone else move me through life"
"Watching someone make me follow a script"
"Because I'm just Noelle. A Noelle that has to do Noelle things"
"Because I'm just Susie's girlfriend. Susie's girlfriend that has to do Susie's girlfriend things"
WR Noelle is Noelle breaking away from her assigned role. Not a damsel, not a stereotype, not just "The love interest". Someone who isn't bound by what the prophecy has to say. Someone who doesn't need to become the "Love" that finds the girl.
On a final note, despite just spouting a bunch of autistic nonsense about Noelle's character, I do agree that her actual scenes in the Normal Route are bit of a slog to sit through. And yeah, even though Noelle's one purpose is to be Susie's love interest, its not lost on me that she's not as good at fulfilling that purpose as say, Kris or even Ralsei. I likely will be speeding through a lot of Noelle's doe-eyed fawning over Susie if I decide to revisit earlier chapters.
Regardless, God. Weird Route is very fucked up, but also very interesting.
Hell, now that I think about it, you can probably apply a lot of the stuff I said to Berdly too.
So why exactly DOES Flowery know as much as Ralsei? It's implied several times throughout that Flowery knows the prophecy as well as Ralsei does, knows that Kris is opening the fountains, knows how it all ends, knows about the player and the battle menu and stats, etc...
On top of that Ralsei and Flowery don't act like they're haters at first sight. They sound like they've got a history.
Is this ever going to be explained?
That flower in the newsletter meant absolutely nothing in the end, you can make a case that this is Flowery but not once we saw him as a golden flower. So Flowey appearing in this teaser was just another of the many bait and switch that Toby Fox put in this chapter.

Because it's becoming very likely they're alternative versions of the same being, or at least half the same being. If Ralsei really is genuinely somehow UT Asriel/Flowey. (Schizo, I know) then there must've been some sort of bleedover for Flowery. Or some shit. Flowery talks to Ralsei like he knows he's fucked with his own stats before (Something Asriel very clearly does as the True Pacifist Final Boss where he gives himself infinite atk and def despite taking damage and not instakilling you) (Also Asriel's final attack is called Hyper Goner and it looks like the Knight's ult which is another weird as fuck connection)
This chapter was basically just a lot of nudges going "Undertale, eh?" at the player, and it can't all just be a fucking coincidence. The final boss screams "OMEGA FLOWERY" for fucks sake.
Also Ralsei being a Flower also makes sense, because he knows a fucking lot about Flowers in this chapter (neither Darkner nor Lightners) and we know that no matter what, a Darkner shouldn't be able to survive in a world that isn't meant for them, yet Ralsei does without problem. Even Darkners who've been in their current location like Ramb get fucked by that, yet Ralsei is "special". It also goes a way to explain everyone's reaction to Ralsei usually being some level of "Alright but who the fuck are you?"
This nigga is a flower istg.
I quite like Rudy, but both of his demon spawn ruined my puppet nigga's life, also much of my experience with this chapter, so good, fuck em, I'm glad he fell over. Get AIDs then, suffa Holidays!

At the risk of sounding controversial, one of the highlights of this chapter was Green, she stole every scene she's in and is an incredibly endearing and adorable character.
