- The first thing I realized. Neither Susie nor Ralsei showed any reaction to what happened in Chapter 4. Remember? The one where Susie sees what happens at the end of the Prophecy and is left in shock, and Ralsei is so desperate he's in tears for letting Susie find out the end of the prophecy?
Well, the next day, they're both happy and just goofing around in Castle Town, feeling as if that ending never happened at all. In fact, the Prophecy and its narrative weight are only mentioned once in this entire chapter and are treated as a complete afterthought. It's as if Chapter 4 never existed, despite how important it apparently was.
In fact, speaking of which, we also don't know what the fuck Kris was doing when he ran away from home at the end of that Chapter. All we see of him is that he apparently looked pale and sick from being without his SOUL for so long.
- I was expecting a dramatic moment between Kris and Toriel after she danced with a man at her house, considering Kris's sad reaction at the end of that episode. Nope, Toriel only has one line of dialogue in this episode, and that's it. Nothing of substance happened with her. And Toriel didn't care, which increases the level of dislike for a character like her, whose image in the fandom was already falling apart.
- The Festival, the thing that was hyped for like three chapters felt extremely underwhelming. I honestly don't know what I was hoping for with the idea of having a festival in a game like this. But I feel like anything else would have worked better than what they did here. I feel like the Festival should have been more important to the plot than just being a section of the game where you can only do a few things and that's it. Like someone else posted here, I feel like there was a lot of cut content in this area.
- I think Toby tone down on Sans' douchebaggery since he is not nearly as confrontational to Kris and Susie as he was to the other chapter, but once again, I was expecting SOMETHING from him considering how much of an antagonistic asshole he was in the ending of chapter 4. Also, when are we going to fucking see Papyrus?
- Susie felt EXTREMELY out of character in this chapter. I don't know what the hell Toby Fox did to her, but this isn't the same Susie from the previous episode. Seeing her blush around Noelle, charmed by her, grabbing her, and even telling her she likes her felt so baffling that I considered stopping the episode several times. You have to keep in mind that this is a character who just yesterday discovered a terrible truth about the prophecy, saw a dead body, met an old man who inspired her to be better, and then found out that same night that the old man was dead all the time and that rocked her world.
What the hell is she doing smiling and clowning around at the festival like nothing happened? And those inconsistencies with her feelings are the LEAST of what needs to be said about her in what happened here. The whole joke about flirting with her was completely ruined in this episode because it felt wrong to do it now that she likes Noelle.
- I'm not as angry about the Suselle ship being canon as some people in this thread. But it really bothers me that the ship now takes up so much screen time at the detriment of the endearing friendship Kris and Susie built over four episodes. Here, Kris legitimately felt like a third wheel. I'll give Toby Fox the benefit of the doubt here, and I can forgive him for this deconstruction if it leads to something better. But as things stand, this was a terrible way to handle a ship.
- No Carol in this chapter was fucking stupid, considering how chilling her first appearance was in that chapter. No mention of her to Kris or anything at all. I thought Noelle, being a little brat and interrupting her mother to keep her away from Susie, would lead to something, but no, she only called because something happened to Rudy, and that's all we heard from her. I even hoped it was a trap to keep Noelle away from Susie, but not even that. It was extremely disappointing.
- The Jockington theory just fell apart. As much as Catti being a follower of the Roaring Knight theory, since the two of them just act normal like nothing happened. Even with things like Jockington's dialogue deteriorating as the episodes progressed, or Catti calling Kris a traitor, that was another thing that led nowhere.
- Where the FUCK was Onion-san and all that bullshit about hearing music in the deep parts of the lake? Actually, now while we're at it. What was that deal about the lake mentioned in the ARG? Unless I am missing it from the Weird route, that ARG served zero purpose in the original route.
