Don't blame me, the ones on the main sub I went back to save got jannied away lmao.

The consensus does seem to be pretty evenly split between "ZOMG BEST CHAPTER EVAR I'M EJACULATING RIGHT NOW" and "Wtf was that shit, that didn't answer literally anything"
There's a fair amount of people who supposedly struggled with the normal route boss, which I found weird (heh) because while it was tricky I don't think I died once to the guy. I had more trouble with Aqua's knife patterns.

Some of the music was nice, but nothing on the level of TV Time or any of the Sanctuary themes.
Maybe I need a second playthrough or something but none of the music felt memorable or interesting. There was one song, I think it played when fighting Aqua and Seth, that stood out to me solely because it felt very Touhou-inspired (it's called "miniboss_new_section_idea_wip.ogg" in the game files). Everything else was either bland or complete ass (looking at you, Mew Mew fight theme). Not to speak of the multiple instances of songs being reused or remixed from previous chapters. Field of Hopes and Dreams was peak, and Garden of Hopes and Dreams just wasn't.
Forgettable and recycled. They don't sound terrible, but it's somewhat like tracks with the philosophy of Sweet Cap'n Cakes themes mixed with filler tracks that are nods to the previous chapters. You also don't get the usual soundfont trickery of Toby, because there's Japanese instruments everywhere.

Speaking of which, I believe this despite being a weeb: The Japanese theming of this was completely unnecessary and only served further confusion. If you're theming this around Japan, why would you repel the logical Western audience of anime and manga, which are those who are disillusioned with Western media due to progressive bullshit? The only people that this chapter appeals to are those people on Discord who have anime profile pictures because they're heckin' valid and real women.
Honestly? Forgettable. Nothing outright horrible but most of it was just remixes of earlier songs or generally uninteresting stuff. The only track I remember is the Asgore theme remix, but it's just an ambient track and not even a boss theme as there's no Asgore boss.
Well damn, that’s unfortunate. The soundtrack was one of the biggest draws to the series for me, so hearing that this chapter doesn’t deliver is pretty disappointing.

Thank you guys for the heads up, I might just wait until chapter 6 comes out to see if playing through this one is worth it.

I love how everyone is talking about all the obnoxious suselle shit without knowing what awaits them later on in the chapter.

I know deltarune already had a reputation to attract them, but trust me when I say this chapters shadow crystal boss is the closest thing Toby has made to pure troonslop
Oh, we (sadly) know. No, stalker dog, your original trans anime character donut steel is not appealing, don't create a second encounter of xim in an entirely different game.

sorry for double posting, can't let myself get spoiled again, but what i meant by "when you abort the snowgrave route" is about if there are differences if you abort it in chapter 2 or chapter 4, not in general

Is that true? I did my first playthrough on the weird route and I didn't get any message about being locked out. I really liked the ending as well, Noelle dying(?) then the worrld going on with even Susie making a space for her in the Dark World despite the fact she is probably(?) dead or worse was really cool.

That's because you didn't proceed hard enough. Sorry bro, but you're no longer in the weird route.

I had more trouble with Flowery than I did with Mew Mew. I also took a few tries to get past Aqua. But really, the Mew Mew fight was really disappointing - too easy, bad music, stupid anime shit.

Also, since you didn't die to him, I can let you know: you CAN'T die to him. He doesn't actually kill you, the fight just ends and he tells you not to try again, and Green re-cooks all the items you used up during the fight. So essentially it's exactly the same as a game over but it's not a game over.

Not sure if that's 100% true. In normal route Kris gets the Blue Rose title on the status screen, but if you abort in the lake Kris gets the Shattered Rose title instead. We might still be on some sort of weird route, just not the main one.

Thank god I get to replay the best chapters again (one and two) before diving into this chapter. Hopefully it at least has some cool mechanics and fights, never paid that much attention to the story anyways even in the early chapters.

If you are a straight man and you don't hate yourself I would suggest you just move on. The things enjoyable about Toby Fox's work are almost all gone. His music is worse. His writing is worse. Even the gameplay seems to be worse. He used to be able to cover up his degeneracy with talent, but now?

The dream is over. Wake up and try not to feel too bad. Moreover, try not to let yourself get fooled again.

Chapter notes:
Toby Fox has a habit of taking things I like and ruining them. I like flowers and flower symbolism. What does Toby do with it? By making it gay of course!

Susie and Noelle getting together is designed to make you feel like a cuckold. He clearly wants to use Kris as a stand in for the player, but doesn't want to be criticized for it. A real "Eat your cake and have it" type of situation. Bahamut Lagoon really is the root of all evil. Did you know it was originally going to be called Final Fantasy Tactics? I wonder why it wasn't...

Toby might really troon out at this point. From the "secret" boss to everything about Ralsei, it wouldn't shock me.

It was only Japan themed in an attempt to make the player associate Japan with faggotry. It reminds me of a random Markiplier video I watched out of boredom. It was a horror game set in Japan with no Japanese people. He didn't commentate on it even once. I blocked his channel after that. God damned Koreans...

Thanks for the heads up, can't wait to see what the conclusion to the cliffhanger will be in Chapter 7. I guess I have two Aborted Snowgrave route save files then, one with the Thorn Ring, and one without! Edit: I realized I missed it because the abort jingle didn't happen, probably because that save file's Noelle still knows Snowgrave(?) Hopefully the (abort at the last minute) save file has some interesting changes as well.

I know that from an objective standpoint the chapter completely wasting time and not moving the plot forward whatsoever is worse than the Suselle stuff but I just can't help but fucking hate it.

Chair jokes aside I honestly felt that Suselle was forced but mostly inoffensive up until now, but at this point I genuinely cannot fucking stand these scenes. They're so unbelievably forced, the romance itself is Hallmark channel levels of schlocky trope-filled dogshit, and it seems to outright require Kris (the protagonist) to be completely absent or incapacitated for it to happen, and Susie (the deuteragonist) to act completely out of character and suddenly fall head over heels in the most blatant goo-goo eyes way possible despite being incredibly reserved and emotionally oblivious with every other character and in every other scene.

The relationship between Susie and Kris was the single most engaging part for me in this game, it was the heart and soul of the story on an emotional level, and now it feels like everything that made that relationship special is being ripped away and cheapened just so the worst fucking romance I've ever seen in a video game can be smeared across my screen for the 10th time.

The chapter ends with Susie essentially telling Kris that Noelle is just as important to her, if not more, than Kris is because awooga lesbeans she's my gf now lol you gotta deal with it.

Every moment, big and small, that was just between Susie and Kris was straight up co-opted by Noelle in this chapter. All of them.

The diner, the piano, the beach, the dark worlds. There is nothing that's just for Susie and Kris anymore. Kris is now the third wheel in his own fucking friendship because this bitch-ass doe was horny.

Here's an idea Toby, see all those minigames you spent years coding for the filler chapter that should have not been a filler chapter?
Have them be part of the festival. That way the thing you've been building up to for 4 chapters isn't over almost instantly.
Actually surreal how bad this chapter is.
