There's not gonna be any cope from me. I'm annoyed he went with it, but the chapter as a whole is largely dogshit.
 
Surprisingly I didn't like that they added black ralsei back and not because I'm racist, but it just feels like he's outgrown his ch1 design with him being as sick of this chapter and main antagonist as I was (I especially wanted to just kill flowery at the end, but at this point I'm questioning why FIGHTing is even an option with how much the game is built around not doing that). They didn't even really do anything with the japan aesthetic beyond some scenery and unimportant enemies.

Also this is probably just me, but it bugs me that that Susie understandably goes "woah, ralsei you can do that?" when Ralsei finally uses his firemagic, but not when he's suddenly flying around as part of his regular moveset.

Seriously? The point of the weird route is the player going out of their way to mindfuck Noelle via Kris. After all that, she can overrule you, and Kris doesn't jump at the chance to stop?

Massive in-your-face Suselle fest, zero subtlety. It felt like a schlocky teenybopper romcom
Susie is now just as obsessed with Noelle as she was with her, to an obnoxious degree
Everything that was worked for between Kris and Susie is being forcefully handed to Noelle with zero effort
Susie asks Kris to walk her home just to emotionally cuck Kris and tell him that the "special thing" between them can't be between just them anymore and it must include Noelle now

The knight shows up for 10 seconds then fucks off after kidnapping Asgore

It was filler. Chapter 5 was fucking filler. Again.

Toby obviously scared himself with the controversy over the rape allegory and gutted whatever the weird route was actually meant to be. His backwards Texas fundie mother must have fucked him up so bad that, in his mind, sexuality of any kind is only permissible when filtered through several levels of heckin' wholesome high-school-anime lesbiarino romance.

i hate the forced suselle shit but i kept thinking "whatever as long as this shit doesn't boil over into the dark world" and then the FIRST thing that happens is that they ruin the flirt joke by making susie super conscious about it. it has to be done on purpose. at least i got to flip off noelle
 
I'm probably gonna put off playing the chapter for a while. Putting all the shipping faggotry aside, I'm most disappointed by it sounding like this chapter still doesn't really have any payoff for any of the plot threads. I was actually have a discussion yesterday where I theorized that Western writers and stories recently are having a huge problem with being good at build-up but shit at payoff because fans are more addicted to the hype and anticipation of what could happen later over the satisfaction of an actual conclusion. It's starting to look like Toby may be falling into the pattern, perhaps because he's not confident enough in the payoff he has planned so he keeps delaying it as much as he can. If he always planned for the biggest high of Chapter 3~5 to be the Titan encounter in Chapter 4, then he should have stuck to his original plan of releasing all three chapters at once, since releasing 3 & 4 naturally puts people in the position of expecting further escalation in Chapter 5 instead of more build-up for Chapter 6 or 7.
