I just thought of something interesting.
While Hometown is clearly a cage of some sort, I think it's only been like that recently, and the original Hometown wasn't.
Maybe this can all be tied back to the alternate timeline theory, but doesn't anybody else think it's curious that the internet, a link to the outside world, has just been down for days? Asriel, who exists outside of Hometown and was meant to be showing up for the Festival doesn't?
I think that the experiment of Deltarune may be somebody taking a copy of the town and keeping it separated from the rest of the world during the experiment. (Possibly with the idea of using Susie to mess with the prophecy?)
The Shadow Crystal may be showing Hometown outside of the experiment. Which explains a LOT.
-You thought you saw Susie glaring at you, coldly...
-You thought you saw Noelle close against you, whispering.

We've already been through these Noelle and Susie ones enough, but where the experiment theory really starts to shine is:
-You thought you saw your mother holding someone else.
This would be on Festival day. The day Asriel was probably meant to be home.
There's also the unused text for Chapter 3:
-For some strange reason, for just a brief moment...
-You thought you saw Undyne frozen in ice.

Which, if Noelle were there, and the Knight didn't kidnap Undyne, might've been required.
It's not so much an alternative timeline, but a captured bubble of space.
The Shadow Crystal when used in Dark Worlds tend to allow you to actually see the world outside of the Dark Worlds, too. (So it's possible that the Noelle holding flowers scene was actually taking place inside of Flower King and not the Dark World made within it)
Now, if this does turn out to be true, then it means that escaping from Hometown won't put Kris and Noelle in some backrooms grayscale hellhole, but the original Hometown. The big question is whether it makes them duplicates, or if it puts em into their other bodies, or if it turns Kris and Noelle into Goners or someshit.
What, so it's like Final Fantasy 10?

What, so it's like Final Fantasy 10?
Huh, that is kinda like the whole fake Zanarkand thing from FFX.
Though not quite? Fake Zanarkand was clearly designed to be a paradise, Hometown was designed to be an experiment. Also I kinda doubt that the entirety of real hometown have been joined into a massive dreaming amalgamate of souls.
Mad respect to Gaster if he did do that, though.
Clearly the song Onion-san heard at the bottom of the lake was the Hymn of the Faith.

"Hmm well surely the Redditors and Suselle shippers loved this, right?"

Toby...
>even the Redditors are pissed off at how much susie and noelle got character assassinated
>:story::story:

Hope this was worth assfucking your dream project toby. God, WE MUST RAPE ALL GOONERS, ESPECIALLY YURI GOONERS ASAP!
Maybe I need a second playthrough or something but none of the music felt memorable or interesting. There was one song, I think it played when fighting Aqua and Seth, that stood out to me solely because it felt very Touhou-inspired (it's called "miniboss_new_section_idea_wip.ogg" in the game files). Everything else was either bland or complete ass (looking at you, Mew Mew fight theme). Not to speak of the multiple instances of songs being reused or remixed from previous chapters. Field of Hopes and Dreams was peak, and Garden of Hopes and Dreams just wasn't.
The remixed rude buster was pretty great and it almost feels like it was the original version that toby composed before using the version with the sega genesis soundchip sound.
Edit: I havent seen anyone mention it but the gaster follower is selling onion flavored fried octopus???

Did I fucking eat onion-san???
I SWEAR IF TOBY IS SETTING GASTER UP TO BE A VILLAIN!
>ch 1 is the second weakest chapter
Falsenvke btw. 2 and 4 are ARYAN chapters. Seethe chapter 1 fag.

There's a massive thing that I think we've sorta glossed over in the whole "altered prophecy" thing, and that's chapter 3.
The fact that Tenna takes the way things are supposed to go and then makes a whole new game out of it where you're heavily on rails is definitely foreshadowing something in the future.

Also, Spamton heavily references the Weird Route in his goals now. He's also connected to Noelle because she used to answer his spam.
Spamton, in his empowered NEO form, powered by a lost dream, believes that he will be free, but he's not. He's still held by those green strings of fate. Spamton NEO looks like a winged humanoid (An Angel) and he needs a Human Soul in order to get the power to see past the darkness to see into Heaven.
* I NEED YOU.

Spamton really is the king of the schizoposters.

Quite bold of Toby to have the evil dyke TERF Susie bully he heckin NEURODIVERGENT NONBINARY Kris out of jealousy, and steal away the CIS FOID Doe from they/them!

The problem with Susie and Noelle as a relationship is that the game is naturally limited to less than a week of in-universe time passing, so there isn't really any opportunity to flesh it out naturally. At least it is implied that Susie was attracted to Noelle beforehand so it doesn't come completely out of nowhere.

Besides, I think Chapter 6 will mostly involve Susie trying to find out where Noelle is. I think Noelle will isolate herself in a Dark World following Rudy's death, and become essentially the end goal, the prize of the Ice Palace, meaning she won't be joining the party in Chapter 6 either.

If Chapter 6 does take place in Noelle's house like people are expecting, I really hope that we get to see Krismas the Cactus as an actual Plantner. If only because seeing Noelle's idealized version of Kris in a Dark World would be funny as shit.

Also, the mage is meant to leave the party sometime before the Ice Palace, iirc.

Did I miss (or forget) a big fight? Fighting the cat girl and then flowery didn't feel like an ending to me. I got excited when the knight appeared but they fucked off right away.
Chapter 5 was pretty much made by the B-Team. That's why the writing, music and gameplay was meh, outside of some gimmicks. The jabs at Chapter 1 with these nostalgic jokes fall flat when Shadow Ralsy still looks better than Uncovered Ralsy.

Somebody has to uphold the family name of Dreemurr.
Good thing that Kris is more or less hetero. I half-expected half of the town to be gay. Carol looks like the kind of woman that wouldn't be happy to know that her "empire" will crumble because her daughter decided not to like boys.

Amazing things are happening on
Still better than Chapter 5.
When did Kris lose his hand?

Oh God, no more le-quirky bosses harrassing you through the chapter, let's get serious already.

Pretty sure it wouldn't really be le quirky at all.
I was thinking something more akin to a Dark Link thing. I'd just be funny to have Cactus Kris beat the fuck out of Susie for cucking him.

Taken from an anon over on 4chan. Unless they took it from somewhere else. Seems to compile much of our discussion into one theory.
Really hope this is where it goes. Someone brought up foreshadowing, the whole chapter 1 arc with Lancer and Susie where she's briefly your enemy could be an interesting bookend if that dynamic and uncertianty comes back in the final chapter.

One small thing I've noticed is the tendency for prominent darkner-aligned bosses to have a signature vocalization you hear over and over before you fight them. The only non-boss who does so far is Susie, and I can absolutely see that being flipped into some sort of Dancing Mad-esque fight intro if she's the final boss.

That doe ain't right. I'd bet money that she will be the end villain, willing to bring down all to escape, maybe even the Knight herself in some weird, schjzo subconscious way where she suppresses the whole thing or keep it as her deepest secret. I mean, pushing boundaries and glitches in vidya was her thing.

Suzie and Kris will just end up being autistic gremlins who ended up befriending each other.

I mean that's what I mean, retcon or not. It's at least not entirely "who is this person" to "I love you", even if it was only stated later.
Doesn't change the fact that Susie and Noelle became a couple after interacting for 3 days, it's very unbelievable and forced
