I still use nitter instances like Poast and the recent Xcancel one that still surprisingly work for the time being, so I’m not sure what disabling likes entirely will do for me. It’s also not going to stop big name establishment news sites to continue to farm engagement that border on clickbait and real misinformation.

Community Notes just is not cutting it these days.

on the other hand, twitter wokescolds love doing the thing where they dig through somebody's likes to find something problematic to cast that person as a bigot or something. somewhat recently there was an insipid "controversy" in Final Fantasy XIV where some fucking ERP tranny dug through the likes of Susan Calloway, beloved vocalist of some of the game's most iconic themes, for no reason other than to start shit. apparently she had liked a few posts from jorp and Ben "Dry Ass Pussy" Shapiro years ago, the discovery of which instantly sent all the fucking catgirl troons into conniptions, causing her to be uninvited from some gay community event as a result. note that Susan Calloway has never publicly expressed any kind of Wrongthink, nor exploited her popularity for any kind of political activism, so this is about as close as you can get to being lynched for thoughtcrime in the gay ass modern culture war.

this one is a neutral change, IMO. it protects degenerates as well as cancel culture targets. what Elon should actually do is follow Null's example and hide all the dopamine loop metrics like follows and likes from everybody, including the poster themselves. but that would literally break the fundamental purpose of twXtter and make it actually eligible to be replaced by another platform that encourages users to self-suck over their updoot numbers. imagine how quickly a faggot like Patrick Tomlinson would flee Twitter if he couldn't see his own follower number anymore. burn social media to the ground.

It's funny to think that those people believe a company cares about their best interests at all. You benefiting from whatever happens is just happenstance. It's really no different than Kiwi Farms itself. You want to use the space, follow the rules or just leave. "Free speech" platforms never existed to begin with.
 
I don't use Twitter because I got banned preElon. Does this remove like count or just who liked what? If its the former isn't that the whole reason most people use Twitter?
 
An annoying change for sure. I had actually been using the likes feed as part of an investigation into the site's various content distribution rings.
 
i dont know why this matters? having twitter likes wasnt a feature originally so doesnt this just make likes function the way they did before?
 
I'm glad Shitter is still killing itself. It deserves it after being such a big contributor to the terminally online retardation epidemic, and I just wish this started earlier on than it did.
 
Ironically enough, the same people who complain about "crypto bots" are acting exactly like bots by spamming the same image over and over again or just a comment that says "liked".
Also, since no one is able to see who liked your post or not, you can buy likes as much you want and not be caught. You can inflate numbers and make your absolutely lunatic talking points seem more popular than they actually are. No one will know.

Over a decade ago I swore off on making a twitter or reddit partly due to a weird personal grudge against them for having ads for their sites claiming to be responsible for memes from sites like youtube, Newgrounds, and 4chan years beforehand. I remember people were pissed about those ads back in the day but still made reddit and twitter accounts and somehow forgot about those ads over the years.This was like back in 2011? I think? It was like around the time shortly before tumblr metamorphosed from just any other blog site to ground zero purity politics insano spiral zone. Anyways that and a number of other reasons led to me never making an account on twitter, reddit, or even tumblr because everyone I knew that had one stopped using it after the politics nightmare shit took off. People I know still get weirded out by me for not using them but I don't give a shit.

That's just the like button from Nintendo's Miiverse, their equivalent of PSN they had for the wii U with a built in message board/forum for each game. They replaced this on switch after shutting miiverse down with forced built in twitter/facebook account linking to access certain features in games, a decision I will never not view as completely fucking retarded. Most games they stopped doing that with but splatoon's switch games never undid it so you need a fucking twitter/facebook to draw goofy images that appear as graffiti ingame which led to most of the US posters just being twitter "TRANS RIGHTS!!!" scribbles instead of actual cool art the last 7 years.
