:story:

A lot of eastern and southern Europeans are great at skirting the system in that way too. Quite a few of them come into the country in that fashion every year, but no one really talks about the influx of European immigrants since, as far as I know, majority of them are going the legal route, normally through family business if they don't have higher education.

Funny enough, some big Youtuber is under DACA and is Slovakian, but I forget what his name is. He's freaking out over DACA, but the fact he's made himself a business and is happily paying taxes means he'd easily be on the road to citizenship. It's pretty obvious he's just going for view money, since I'm fairly sure he would be able to afford legal counsel to help him at this point.
Actually he could be fucked - owning a business and paying taxes don't mean shit to immigration you don't get any brownie points for it. A lawyer can buy you time and delays but can't pull a valid legal reason to get residency out of thin air, and there are very few avenues available. You need valid specific legal standing as a way to apply for permanent residency or you must GTFO.

:powerlevel: My husband, educated white guy from English speaking western ally country, had to go through the immigration process here when we got married so I got to see the how the system grinds and works - and it's awful. I met an Eastern European, who owned a contracting business that had 25 American employees, paid lots in taxes and had two citizen daughters going to Ivy League schools get deported after being in this country for 30 years. He no longer had asylum claim status standing due to communism falling and he got sent back. INS isn't like a benelovant dad and doesn't give a fuck if you've been an upstanding citizen for decades.

Man that's rough. If we're willing to kick out people like that fellow, who are actually contributing to society in a meaningful way through business for decades, then a lot of these kids are fucked.

Also, believe it or not America is known and has prided itself for being a "nation of immigrants" since it's inception. Poor uneducated randos are the reason this country exists, very few rich educated Europeans 200 years ago had any interest in moving across the Atlantic - it was the poor ppl with nothing who came.

Well, it didn't turn out well for the natives when we did that.

That's inevitable. If we deported only their parents, we'd be punishing their children by making them live without parents. In that event they'd realistically go back with their parents even if they weren't forced to.
Lord of the flies remake starring an all Mexican cast.

I don't think some kid that was dragged over the border by their parents and is trying to do the best they can in a new situation is a "fuck them" situation, personally. I feel bad for a lot of them, mostly. The ones who are here screaming about how much this country sucks and how we need to open the borders so the drug cartels can operate freely and turn the southern states into the kind of violent shithole so much of Mexico is, yeah, fuck them.
The kid that got dragged over is still an illegal alien and considering how most of them don't try to blend in anymore and instead act like entitled little shits that eat up government resource that could of gone to American citizens instead, yeah, fuck them, back they go.

Immigration is a difficult subject because it does legitimately involve innocent confused children, terrified desperate people with good intentions, and extremely valuable people with a lot of potential for success but a shitty hand dealt to them. The problem is that they're mixed in with horrible violent criminals, uneducated and uneducatable burdens to society, and people who absolutely and unashamedly hate your culture and don't just want to continue living their own culture in isolated pockets, but insist that you give up yours and conform to theirs instead.

I'm all for stricter border control and harsher immigration policies. It's not tribal wandering anymore, you can't just go exploring. We've got detailed maps and nukes and anthrax, we're playing a totally different game with brand new rules. But I still feel bad for the innocents who have to take the short stick just to keep every innocent from getting the same short stick. But it's less "Fuck them" and more "regrettably your services are not desired at this time..."
They also wind up creating the exact same slum they left behind. Only now it's in another country so people that had nothing to do with the bullshit squabbles illegal aliens bring now have a chance to be affected by it. They bring the exact same contempt for the police and the exact same silence when crimes are committed. We have enough of that here already, we don't want anymore, especially when they're collecting welfare from the government.

So no, fuck them, back they go.

Idk, I think a 4.5 GPA valedictorian is deserving of a scholarship. Most scholarships are for US citizens, but there are some specifically for Dreamers.
Scholarships for Dreamers is fine. Full rides to private universities are well and good.

Using state tax revenues to subsidize a foreign national's education is a good way to lose your job.

They kinda didn't have a choice since, these people were kids at the time. They were brought here by their parents. (It's generally not a good idea to punish people for things that weren't their fault. Especially if they were minors at the time.)

It's not a matter of "We're punishing them" or even" fuck them". It's a matter of they are not here legally. Sorry, thems the breaks. If your parents were selfish and irresponsible, and they go broke, and lose their house, just an example, you don't get to stay in the house and keep all your toys and everything is hunky dory because you're just a kid, and it's not your fault. Nope. You get fucked over too, in one way or another.

Same thing applies here. They are here ILLEGALLY, so they don't have a right to be here, taking away resources from people who were born here, or, yes, came here legally.

How could we fix this? Well, maybe not make it so difficult to legally become a citizen here. But just because the system is fucked does not mean people should get a free pass. All kinds of systems are fucked. in every single government on Earth, you can find something where most will agree "yeah, that's fucked". But it's still the law, and you have to abide by it

It's not but if you don't think the construction, farm and meat production industry (to name just a few) in this country would grind to a halt without illegal immigreant labor you don't know much about the US economy. This is why work permits or something is needed - poor uneducated randos come here because we need them - they wouldn't easily find countless hard ass crappy jobs to support themselves here if we didn't.

Also, believe it or not America is known and has prided itself for being a "nation of immigrants" since it's inception. It's the exact same in the UK. People love to yell 'immigrants are stealing our jobs', but the fact of the matter is that without immigrants, there'd be no low-level industrial labor at all. None. Those jobs are always there, always, but a good percentage of educated people would rather go into debt than take on such 'demeaning' tasks. The people that lobby for immigration bans are the same people who would scratch their heads in genuine confusion when crops rot in the fields, construction falls behind schedule and the service industry spontaneously implodes.

Good thing half the country doesn't have a college degree then. Americans use to do those jobs, would like to do those jobs, but the system has been set up to prevent them from doing them for almost 100 years now. Look into what happened to the fruit pickers union from 1910-1950. Ask anyone in HR of a construction company what they're instructed to do when they get resumes from non-illegals. Ask a high school or college age kid why they don't both to apply for cashier jobs in cities with large populations of illegals. Hell, tell me why Australia will pay college bums who want to travel $21 an hour to pick vegetables, but the US just absolutely needs slave labor from Mexico to function.

Then they should stay out. Why is it imperative that every poor uneducated rando who wants to enter the USA be allowed to?
they hear about how good the USA is and the myth of the American dream, plus Latin American countries like Mexico and Columbia have a severe issue with violent gangs who could be called narcoterrorists. If you lived in an unstable country, you would be desperate to get out as soon as you can. Yes, these people are entering illegally, but they are also trying to escape from somewhere with no opportunities and the risk of getting killed by gangs.

That's why they want in, sure. Doesn't mean we have to let them in.
