🐱 Trump Made 1,950 Untrue Claims in 2017.

When President Trump sat down with the New York Times for an interviewrecently, he said something untrue about every 75 seconds.

That’s not just the usual political boasting and grandstanding. Those were actual, verifiable claims which professional fact checkers investigated and found to be untrue.

For example, Trump said in the interview that “virtually every Democrat” has said that the Trump campaign did not collude with the Russians during the 2016 election, while there was “tremendous collusion” between Democrats and the Russians.

That’s not just false but “breathtakingly false,” as one fact-checker put it. Democrats have not exonerated Trump, though some have been circumspect about what we know and don’t know about Russian meddling, and there is little evidence that Democrats were colluding with Russia.

In fact, the CIA, FBI and National Security Agency found in January of 2017 that Russia aimed to discredit Hillary Clinton and help Trump’s chances in the election, so the claim doesn’t make much sense.

The interview was not an outlier, either.

A year-end review of untrue claims from FactCheck.org found Trump dominating the list with remarks on everything from his inauguration to the Russia investigation to his own tax bill. Of PolitiFact’s 483 fact checks on Trump so far, 69% were rated “mostly false,” “false” or “pants on fire,” and his claims on Russian meddling were the “Lie of the Year.” The Washington Post found 1,950 false or misleading claims made over 347 days.

It’s easy to dismiss the scale of this problem.

After all, public trust in government is near historic lows. Most Americans think politicians lie on a regular basis (though, by and large, they typically don’t), and professional fact-checkers have been around for years and not made a substantive difference in U.S. politics. Critics will point to these stories as evidence that “Donald Trump lies” and compile “lists of Trump lies,” Trump will call the media “fake news” and “dishonest” and nothing will change, right?

But there’s substantial evidence that Trump’s approach to the truth is having an effect.

A recent Quinnipiac poll showed that 62% of voters don’t think Trump is honest, while only 34% believe he is. While Republicans remain trusting, with 75% believing he’s honest, more than two-thirds of independents don’t agree and a sky-high 93% of Democrats think he’s dishonest. By comparison 52% of votersthought Trump was not honest just after the November election — a full 10-point drop over his first year.

Trump’s trustworthiness has made it harder for him to sell his policies. While the White House boasted that the Republican tax plan would give American families a tax break, a Monmouth poll showed that half of the public believed their own taxes would go up. The various “repeal and replace” bills on Obamacare also polled poorly, despite Trump’s claims about them, some of which were clearly untrue.

During the campaign, Trump’s pitch depended a lot on salesmanship. He avoided detailed plans in favor of making grand claims about how “I alone can fix it.” As the first president without a track record in politics or the military, he essentially asked voters to take his word for it. But his reputation for dishonesty is making it harder for him to do that job.

and why do you assume the article is lying? because it's not patting daddy trump's ass?

it's weird to me that anything negative towards trump must be false, but anything negative about, say, hillary clinton must be true.

I'm pretty sure it's a known thing that trump lies, or, ahem, "misspeaks". it's not like this is the only media outlet that has pointed this out. but then I guess the media is lying because liberal bias.

but to properly answer your question, no, I don't think trump literally lies all the time. maybe like 85-90% tops.

I'm not assuming the article is lying, I read the article(s) and see that they're trying to misconstrue a bunch of shit into "Trump lied" when in reality a lot of the examples they bring up aren't what they claim.

I don't care about Trump (though he's probably better for me personally than Hillary would be), it's just sad to see the outlets that are clearly against him be unable to just stay honest and accurate. Their words would have a lot more force if you couldn't look at them and say "wait, why are you deliberately puffing up your numbers with irrelevancies?"

“. . . I saw Dianne Feinstein the other day on television saying there is no collusion.”

Trump appears to be referring to an interview with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. She did not flatly say there was no collusion and instead was more nuanced. Asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper on Nov. 5 whether she had “seen any evidence that this dirt, these emails, were ever given to the Trump campaign,” she replied: “Not so far.” Tapper then asked: “Have you seen any communications that suggested that the Trump campaign wanted them to release them through a different means?” She answered: “I have not.”
Trump definitely makes shit up for no reason sometimes. (That garbage with the inauguration crowd-sizes was the most pointless shit ever.) But if I had commissioned this report, I would've fired everyone based on this quote alone. If they had left out such obvious contortions, this article would've been titled something like "Trump made 300 untrue claims in 2017" which would've been plenty.

Politicians are like religions: they both contradict themselves.

My philosophy is that since politicians contradict themselves more times than you could count on both your fingers and toes, it's easier to just assume every politician is lying through their teeth. Whether it's Hillary, Trump, or even Sanders, it makes no difference.

Última edición:
yes I want more of that whataboutism. it's okay for daddy trump to lie about everything because all politicians lie amirite?
I'm gonna go ahead and shamelessly backpedal here, and reassess my position here since it's not 2 in the morning. My comment there was mostly a knee-jerk reaction to a foreigner being a judgemental cunt due to our politicians.

I would like to start off and say that I'm not a Trump-supporter other than I don't like Trump a-logs, but hey, Hillary a-logs are dumb too and are also a part of the problem. When others bring up Hillary's flaws with regards to honesty, that means that she still has a problem with lying. It doesn't matter if they brought up this point to deflect their own flaws, you don't to stoop to their level, because it would only dissolve the argument down to "Trump lies because Hillary lies because Drumpf lies because Shillary lies..." The real problem here is that almost every politician is dirty and dishonest. It is up to we the people, to make sure they and the media are transparent. This fighting across political lines because both side did the same thing wrong is not going to get us anywhere.

Trumps opponents seem to really believe what Adolf Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf.

I don't need an article to tell me Trump is a lying shitbag.
He tweeted that the fire in Trump Tower was put out 46 minutes before the FDNY tweeted that it was, in fact, still a burning and was, in fact, a 4-alarm blaze.
The Idiot-in-Chief wouldn't know the truth if it bit him on his arse.
