China's authoritarianism is a lot more sophisticated than "one man at the top". Selection begins in primary school where every kid is the default member of the Chinese Youth Pioneers.
In middle school, only the sharpest students join the Chinese Communist Youth League. You have to submit an application as well. It seems voluntary, but typically, the teacher would recommend top students in the class to apply.
Further along the lines, there's China's brutal Gaokao. An exam that basically dictates your future. We love to make fun of affirmative action. China's Gaokao has it too. The daughter of one of my relatives was top 50 in her tier 0 city, she wasn't able to get into the top universes. She settled for fudan. Conversely, the top 10 of lower tier cities would get in, despite having way less marks in the exam. This ensures every area gets representation, eventually.
All in all, this process ensures that whoever makes it to the CPC, in theory, aren't retards with low IQ. That's why every Chinese president and almost every member of the party are highly educated. That's probably one of the only ways to make a dictatorship of China's size work.

My understanding is the point of the bill was to help integrate the US and Israeli military like how the US is integrated with NATO, Japan, South Korea, and so on. Since it's Israel, everyone loses their fucking mind about it on both sides of the issue and it's hard to parse.

That's not what I meant. What I meant is that the Epstein Files, as interesting as they are, may not have been as provocative and damning as the public was led to believe. It is possible that the files were hyped up in public as being a treasure trove of dirty laundry of countless powerful figures and celebrities when, in reality, it's mostly the drug-addled ramblings of Jeffrey Epstein. Tons of people, including Trump, hyped it up. The Epstein Files have a mythical status in the public consciousness now. So, when they finally came out, it felt like something was held back or missing, which only fueled the conspiracy theories.
It was certainly overhyped by Trump and his supporters. As it turns out, the files implicated gross creeps on both sides of the political aisle. Democrats don't want it out, neither do Republicans. However, it was a Republican who used its release as one of his campaign promises, it wasn't a Democrat.
The FBI is now spending money and manpower to "investigate vandalism of the reflecting pool". More people have been arrested for touching water than diddling kids as per the Epstein files. The state's resources are being spent to chase illusive knife cuts along a stupid duck pond instead of bringing justice to the victims and putting nonces in cages.
You don't get to say it's a nothingburger when there's no investigation to substantiate it one way or another. Other countries are investigating their elites implicated in the files.
This should make you mad as an American. It shouldn't matter who's doing it, Republican or Democrat. A child molester is a child molester and they should be shot in the head. I don't care where they are on the political spectrum.
