While I technically agree, he basically built on the soviet model. I give him credit for his political manouvering but hes clearly not a military genius. I guess in many ways his manouvering meant he fucked it with the military (left incompentent generals in charge).

His problem is he's a product of both the late Soviet Era and the Post Soviet Era. He's an absolute master of playing the corruption and chaos that is a hallmark of both eras, and he did extremely well at projecting an image of strength to the rest of the world. The problem is what he's actually working with is the corruption and chaos of the late and Post Soviet era, meaning his generals are nepo hires, his conscripts are drunks, money for maintaining his equipment got embezzled and that corruption breeds a self serving cultural attitude which makes organization and maintaining high morale an impossibility.
He is absolutely able to rise to the top of such a society, but he is completely incapable of reforming and reforging it into being anything other than a kleptocracy.

I 99.9% agree, except for the projection of strength. IMO its been very clearly a smokescreen of incompetence from the beginning. Just as an example I don't think that Clinton, Bush, Obama ever thought Russia was an actual threat. More of a destablising force with a big army. Chechen wars etc proved it probably in their eyes.
This is all my opinion, but Russia hasn't had anywhere near the ability to project force further than its literal borders (and even then they essentially fail at it) since Putin has got in.

I think so-called progressives importing people to pay less than minimum wage is hypocritical and drives wages down for everyone and makes the economy worse for everyone. Concern for wages post-2008 exists in many people's minds.
