Word of advice for next time, if you can you're better off DMing instead of asking these sort of questions within a public thread, where people can randomly interject. I'm gonna avoid going too much into detail and try to keep it very abridged, but over the past decade I had my political opinions change. One thing you need to keep in mind is that I am not an American, so I never had a tribalistic affiliation with either the Democrats or the Republicans, so my political evolution may not be reflective of the environment you grew up around.
Back around 2016 I was in my right-wing atheist libertarian phase (even if I didn't have a word for it at the time) so I viewed Trump more favorably over Hillary, even if I viewed Trump's credentials of being within the presidential office questionable. By 2020, I started to become more disillusioned with right wing political figures, after realizing that they're just as much susceptible to having thin skin and narcissism as the SJWs they criticized so much, and due to things like Brexit being horridly managed or executed. And this outlook was only confirmed by January 6th happening, when the MAGA people refused to accept the election results. In 2024, I had the "vote blue no matter what" stance, but that was not primarily due to project 2025, it was almost entirely due to my stance on Russia's war in Ukraine and I really did not want the party with pro-Z sympathies to win.
As for how I got into the forum, it had nothing to do with politics at all. I initially just wanted to engage with people in one specific thread about one hyper-niche online community I used to be part of and there was literally no other place properly archiving it's history. Me becoming involved in political threads just sort of happened... Part of it I attribute to timing, because I think the Autistic Thunderdome, as it's own sub-forum category, was created not long after I made the account on this site.
My current progressive political affiliations are definitely not the primary demographic for this site, but I can't exaggerate enough how much the political pendulum has moved online, compared to where it was 10 years ago. I am flabbergasted at the amount of shit people are able to get away with on sites like instagram now, a website that used to be the pinnacle of normie social media, with people sharing pictures of their food or travels abroad or stealing "wholesome" memes from reddit, pure normie mcnorminson, is now mostly known for hosting brainrot videos, half of which are just people and characters yelling racial slurs. Back in a day, I would need to spend hours browsing through discords and 4chan's /WSG/ thread to find the same amount of shit I'm able to find on Instagram in minutes. The uptight liberal nanny social media culture just doesn't exist anymore, besides a few holdouts like bluesky, that get labelled as "millennial retirement homes". What does it even mean to be a normie these days?
Ok, I typed long enough, so I'd finish off by saying, don't take getting ratio'd too personally. I've been badly ratio'd on this site before. Those who are afraid of trash stickers never bother posting actually unique opinions or insights, and just kind of reiterate what everybody else has said before. Stay curious.
