EDIT: The MSM also failed to pick up on the big story. Trump is pulling soldiers from Syria, but maintaining in Iraq, saying they could mobilize from there if needed. This means a possible influx of troops to Iraq and possibly permanent duty locations in the country.

Hitler had this idea called "Twilight of the gods" or götterdämmerung. This idea was that if Germany failed to win ww2, it deserved to be destroyed.

As the country fell around him in 1945 he passed the Nero decree, an order that demanded all Germans destroy all of their infrastructure, factories and basic necessities of life. He intended for Germany to be a scorched wasteland and for all Germans to either fight to the death or starve.

The population of Berlin had fled to the subways to escape the fighting and disgusted by their behavior, he ordered the subway system flooded.

He had put his own ideology and pride over the wellbeing of his people and country like a madman.

Oddly enough, these orders proved to extreme for even the most ardent Nazis and Hitler was betrayed in his final hours by nearly everybody who was aware of the order.

If I can sperg for a bit about Hitler and WW2.
Hitler was a crazy shithead from the beginning of course but at the end of the war he really went off the deep end. Being toked up on meth all the time couldn't have helped either.
But as it all came down around him he decided that the German people and Nation had "failed" him and National Socialism.
And thus taking his Social Darwinistic views to their "logical" extreme he then decided that because Germany had somehow been unable to defeat the combined might of the USA, British Empire, and the USSR they therefore were the weaker race and deserved to be destroyed by the stronger Allies.
And thats why he came to the conclusion that the country and people he claimed to love so much deserved to be wiped off the face of the earth.
The parallel to modern politics is obvious.
In the eyes of the pricks in the D.C establishment by electing Orange Man America and Americans "failed" them and thus must be punished for wrongthink by recession and war.
And as tired as "This is how you got Trump" hot takes are that smug and entitled attitude is exactly why Trump is President.
After all those douchebags needed to be reminded that they serve us not the other way around.
