It does make sense if you think that the modern-day equivalent of the Roman Empire is not a single nation but the entire capitalist world, due to the interdependence of these countries and the American hegemony over them. Nations would be equivalent to provinces with theoretical autonomy, but practically controlled by Wall Street and Washington.

Eh. If this were some home video rerelease this might actually be significant, but a TV broadcast? They've cut parts out of movies that are actually important to make 122 minutes fit into an hour and a half plus commercials.It never ends.

trump is a rip in the neolibcon story fabric which (along with Brexit) is breaking down the de facto post-WWII and post-Cold War story of "western progress" (unified world govs, psuedo-socialist states, no more racism, no more sexism, increased tolerance, increased liberties; listen to how everything is a "human right" these days) into pieces, which is why so many people are freaking out over it and why the screaming (on both sides) is getting more shrill and more incoherent and is consequently why the need for information control is becoming extremely salient whether you're putin, xi, or zuckerberg. (also the enlightenment itself is breaking down in a very serious way, but that's an entirely different discussion.)
far, far more catastrophes (international and domestic) happened under clinton, bush, and obama (notably the blunders the US government was involved in which helped fuel international extreme anti-american sentiment), and yet it's trump who causes them (the people supporting the "establishment," i.e., said narrative) to lose their minds. why? because he's the most jewish nazi ever to sit in the white house? why do people shit on kanye for wearing a MAGA hat and yet can't argue with him for sperging about (and making millions off of) muh jeezus? it has to do with cultural and personal narratives. people fight and die for them (or transition genders or whatever other banal shit nowadays) whether they believe they're doing it or not. a narrative puts the world in order and tells people how to structure their goals, pursuits, etc. threaten that narrative, and you're threatening another person's world. break it into pieces, and you've demoralized them thoroughly. believe me, i'm quite demoralized myself because i realize the country, the society and culture, i grew up in is ultra mega dead, and i had merely been raised in its shrinking shadow, mistaking it for what everyone else experienced. (trump himself is indeed a bookend of the old-style US presidents and a bridge to the new; expect more big money businessmen quite literally buying the ticket in the future - they could probably be called the "american caesars" if spengler turns out to be correct.)
and yet the light at the end of the tunnel isn't necessarily an oncoming train, as walking incontinent speech impediment slavjoy zeezeck would say, but another opportunity with its both good and bad effects. (learn from lolcows: if you're obsessed with getting hit by trains, it's probably because you want to be hit by one.) stop dwelling on the fuckups and start deeply meditating on what actually worked for once.
