Here is the problem as I see it with the dems/left right now (or at least part of the problem)
They forgot how to argue.
They forgot how to debate.
They forgot how to prove someone else wrong with objective fact and convincing logic.
They forgot how to win both the unsure and even their opponents over to their side.
Basically Trump and his supporters rendered the "YOU ARE A FUCKING NAZI RAPIST FOR NOT DOING WHAT I SAY!" schtick that had become the left's only rhetorical weapon utterly useless, and instead of attempting to reason or argue or win over their way out of this hole, the left and the democrats are instead acting like this...
...solely because those who used the aforementioned "YOU ARE A FUCKING NAZI etcetera etcetera" idiocy to get where they are in politics and media dont want the normies and their colleagues getting the idea that being threatened with being called a bigot is ever more an empty threat
They forgot how to argue.
They forgot how to debate.
They forgot how to prove someone else wrong with objective fact and convincing logic.
They forgot how to win both the unsure and even their opponents over to their side.
For around about 8 or so years, since about the same time the last genuine civil rights issue of gay marriage was drawing to a close, and an insurgent Tea Party was starting to have successes, any pretence of reason and honest minded debate and attempting to convince those on the other side that the dem/left side was the correct and moral one, was quietly dropped and replaced with a far easier, cheaper, less labour intensive, and more viscerally satisfying (for petty spiteful idiots and megalomaniacs) alternative.
Declaring opponents to be subhuman bigots who could never be won over and indeed did not deserve to join the "team of righteousness" and thus needed to be coerced out of society to die off in shame and exile.
Nobody noticed at first because the targets of this shitty, lazy, dishonest, and extremely counterproductive in the long term thinking were right wing fucktards spewing similar bullshit, from fundies to extreme Tea Party zealots to creationists. I distinctly remember places like rationalwiki (before the cancer became apparant) and the youtube skeptic shitshow suddenly being co-opted by a "all you are doing by debating creationists and conspiracy theorists is wasting time and validating their ideas with your attention. They and those who believe them will never be converted so just focus on other things" line of thinking that while on the surface sounded reasonable, the moment you think about it encouraged this idea of "people who disagree with us and any who listen to them are worthless, shut them out entirely" which as posterity demonstrates, utterly and permanently fucked up these very communities.
Moreover, the petty student politics level of "REEEEEEEEEE YOU ARE ALL NAZIS AND RAPISTS AND FASCISTS AND REEEEEEEEEEE!!!" contrived emotion based non-argument started to become normalised as "brave and effective activism" in media and beyond, with BLM being the most notable example of this evidence free bullshit being sold as the ultimate rhetorical tool for the left. From there it exploded with the dangerhair student/graduate political fucktards once laughed at by everyone on the left, right, and centre now being kowtowed to by the media and groveled before by the institutions they inhabited, and thus this plague spread to the point where it quickly became mainstream.
The reason it was so initially popular was that against left wing, centre, or PR focused right wingers, either in politics or in business or media, it was an absolutely terrifying prospect to be labeled as an evil bigot since this would (supposedly) lead to absolute collapse in political support or profits and mass boycotts by customers and voters and thus the immediate reaction was to bow down and overcompensate the moment any whisper of "REEEEEEE NAZI REEEEEEEEE!" was heard.
And naturally, it didnt take the cynics and zealots long to realise that with this power they had over anyone who was terrified of the bigot taboo, they could in one fell swoop silence and shame any opposition or dissent no matter where it came from and no matter what the reason, and thus was an easy way to advance within PR/Marketing obsessed institutions or to destroy any rival within said institions. This was especially effective when the cynic or zealot in question could claim to be part of the very demographic that was being victimised should they not get that promotion or enough support from their underlings.
Thus we saw vast numbers of "LOOK AT MEEE IM A VICTIM! EVERYONE AGAINST ME IS A BIGUT!" charlatans of mediocre/minimal talent and charisma and competence ascend to lofty positions in politics and media, since those with talent and charisma and competence were either quietly kicked out to make room for them or voluntarily moved out the way in order to increase their own social capital under this moronic system, and these mediocre frauds were all fanatical in pushing this "woke" shit down everyone's throats because the more obsessed society was with not being seen as a bigot, the safer and more secure their positions would be.
However, ditching the basics of argumentation and debate and attempts to bridge build meant that the moment these people came up against a person or group that not only refused to bow down to threats of being labeled a bigot, but actively goaded them into chimping out, their whole house of autistic cards collapsed and they would be reduced to hyperbolic and hysterical public tantrums about how this person or group is literally a nazi and pure evil and is LITERALLY KILLING PEOPLE BY NOT DOING WHAT WE SAY REEEEEEEE!
Since they are so utterly fixed on the idea that "calling them a bigot enough will make them back down" they just keep ramping it up beyond the point of absurdity, never realising how fucking retarded and dishonest this makes them look to ordinary people, and thus leaving them utterly unprepared when ordinary people not only fail to support them but actively support the "evil bigot rape nazis" just to spite them.
Even when this keeps failing and backfiring they still cling on to it because those in the media/political institutions who only rose to their positions by using the "IF YOU OPPOSE ME YOU BIGUT RAPIST!" schtick are absolutely terrified that once their paper tiger is revealed to be so completely toothless, they will be cast out and lose their cushy jobs/influence/fame/pizzagate boy whores. Their jobs are literally riding on the idea that woke ultra PC shit is ultra profitable for business and politics while being accused of bigotry is the ultimate catastrophe that will destroy any business or political campaign. Why else do you think these people are the most fanatical ones pushing out conspiracy theories over pee tapes or communist spies controling trump? They are grasping at ANYTHING they can to undo the damage trump did their brand.

Apologies for continuing to push this autistic angle, but I'm actually shocked that I haven't seen anyone in the Pokémon fandom compare Trump to Giovanni, because Giovanni is a businessman who runs an infamous crime organization in the background that he inherited from his mother. And he's damn good at it, too, with Rocket members all over the world and it's implied there's plants even in police and government ranks, which would explain why it is they're still functional (at least in the anime canon). 'Course he's also super rich so he easily bribes the police anyway and funds his organization most likely directly from his inheritance, but possibly from the money he makes from stocks and as a highly-ranked Gym Leader, which he uses as a front to hide his true identity. He's also most likely a Pokémon abuser (with exception of his Persian) because he only uses them as tools to do his bidding, and if Mewtwo never rebelled, he could've easily taken over the world and been the literal God Emperor.
But I think this is all because Giovanni is highly liked in the fandom (villains typically are) for literally being the Lex Luthor of Pokémon, and they probably think that Trump is too stupid and not savvy and charismatic enough to be like Giovanni. And they'd probably prefer having Giovanni run the country despite his background on top of that.

While reading this I got a very interesting mental image, of two guys in pinstriped suits and pork pie hats casually strolling into the lobby of a video game studio. The receptionist says they don't seem to have an appointment, and through false smiles and obvious pats of their waistbands, say "Oh, the guy in charge isn't expectin' us, but he'll want to talk to us, it's verrrryyy important. Get him up here for us, would ya toots? "
And when the lead programmer comes up from his cubicle and asks "Can I help you?" they say:
