TRIPLE DATE WITH EX 1/20/18

She gets impatient reading descriptions. Funny, because she doesn't describe things well IRL. She complained that Stephan King described the sewer for 3 pages. I'd like to see her try Flaubert. :optimistic: If she can't be bothered with descriptive language, that rules out pretty much everything besides books for "reluctant readers" :autism:, which are heavy on happening and light on description. She should try some of those, they might help her start to enjoy reading for real, instead of just for show.

Has anyone ever mentioned Savers or secondhand stores to AL? I can almost guarantee some sad housewife dropped those books off at Good Will and she could've bought them for a fraction of the price, or at least something similar.

Also, to be fair, I have the audio version of It and it's 48 hours long. That's a big fucking book. Of course she didn't finish it, this is the same girl who colors children's coloring books and admits to getting bored while reading. Her attention span is not her strongest suit.

Density was a big fan of Goodwill and there is a vlog where BigAL shows herself in one pawing around and pretty much saying "ewww". Too low class for her. Lol

Used books are dirt cheap on Amazon too, and old books like those she probably could have found for a dollar or two. She's just so frivolous with money. And 55 dollars was too much for a pair of converse. And why she was even looking at those green high tops with those ankles of hers is beyond me.

Good username/post combo. But in all honesty, the only thing close to a "classic" I've seen her pick up was IT, and I think she got maybe 20 pages in before the book and all mentions of it disappeared.

I'd love for her to read some English lady lit, Jane Eyre or something and just be utterly confused by it.
I would laugh my ass off if she tried to read Finnegan’s Wake.

There’s good modern literature like the The Book Thief, I don’t know why she’s reading bottom-of-the-barrel ghostwritten shlock. Then again it is AL :autism:

She could read something like the Shadow Children series, The Hobbit, The Giver... I remember all of those books being heavy on stuff happening.

I have a short attention span as well, and I find that looking online for book recommendations is a good way to go. So is going to libraries, because then, if you don’t like the book, at least you didn’t spend any money on it.

I honestly think AL's biggest hindrance is that she's not good at reading. I don't think the flow of the content really matters; as long as it's a basic bitch topic and at a 6th grade reading level or less, AL will read it. YA novels, at least the ones I read as a tween, tended to be all over the map in regards to action, but were easily read and easily understood. I think AL gave up on It, not because of the length descriptions, but because it is above her reading level.

That's :optimistic: and I admire that, but 1. she can barely master 2018 English, and might wonder why the first line is "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit" instead of "A hobbit lived in a hole in the ground," and 2. there are no girls/women in it (although I think Bilbo's late mother Belladonna is mentioned by Gandalf). I hope she actually does, though. I would love to hear her trying to pronounce "Tolkien" because I'm evil like that.

"I found this book about some guy with hairy feet by J.R.R. Toll-key-en, guys"
