Peter Dinklage continues to build a strong film slate in his post Game of Thrones career and looks to have found his next big project. He is set to star in Legendary’s new Toxic Avenger movie. Macon Blair is on board to direct.

A contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s successful 1984 low-budget action comedy hit, The Toxic Avenger is steeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool. When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed. Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will serve as producers.

The Toxic Avenger became successful after a long run as a midnight movie in New York City, leading to sequels The Toxic Avenger Part II, The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie, and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. The property also became a stage musical production, a children’s cartoon TV series and a Marvel comic.

Dinklage has done a good job balancing the fun tentpole pics with prestige dramas in recent years even as he continued to rack up Emmys for his iconic role as Tyrion Lannister on GoT. Some of his recent film credits include Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, X-Men: Days of Future Past, My Dinner With Herve and the thriller I Care Alot, which premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival with Netflix landing distribution rights.

He is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen.

Blair made his directorial debut with the acclaimed Netflix release I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, starring Melanie Lynskey and Elijah Wood. The film won the Grand Jury prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. He was an executive producer on and starred in Jeremy Saulnier’s 2013 film Blue Ruin.

This is doomed to fail. Fans won't watch because there is no way in hell a mainstream version will deliver the over the top violence/language/crassness expected, and The Toxic Avenger isn't a household name so casual movie goers won't even notice it exists.

This is going to be sanitized so its pointless.

When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste
I don’t think they saw the original film

Let's see how well this does. If there's no over the top violence, Troma humor, crass, and swearing, then it isn't a Toxic Avenger film, let alone a Troma film.

No no no please god no.
Scarface, Escape from New York, Robocop, Short Circuit, Clue, Flight of the Navigator... any other 80s thing getting an unnecessary, subpar or woke remake/sequel no one asked for in 2022? These greedy Hollywood fucks are better off just adapting some unadapted novels or making their own new shitty IPs.

I like Macon Blair a lot, and I thought I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore is one of the best things on Netflix, but I don't wasting his time on some dumb remake.

It's been years since they last talked about it. Hell, Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be in it and it would've been directed by the guy that did Hot Tub Time Machine. This in no way will have Troma edge or humor. I hope they make Dinklage super tall. Speaking of which, when I saw Avengers: Infinity War at the theater and Peter showed up some guy loudly said in the theater: "Ay yo, they made the midget big?" and that got a huge laugh from the crowd. Macon is directing this? Wow.

Lloyd would sell his soul for a sandwich. If he hasn't already.
Not verbatim but I remember he said something in make your own damn movie to the effect of "we love selling out, it's just rare for it to happen!"
I liked toxic crusaders a lot and maybe if the go towards that angle with it I can see it work, especially since it was always rumored that the remake would be pg-13 (because why?). Course this isn't just regular hollywood it's 2020+ hollywood and we can't have dumb fun movies anymore huh.

Kinda wished now the toxic crusaders movie from new line happened, at least then it would have potential to be a so bad it's good.
I would've preferred they made The Retarded Avenger solo movie, c'mon hollywood!

I don't think Zoomers or even very many millennials will understand Troma humor.
You mean they won't laugh when a little kid gets brutally run over on a bicycle by a bunch of teenage bullies who have a scoring system where you get more points if you run over a nigger or a jew? Or when the gang leader calls honest cops faggots? Or a woman's seeing eye dog get killed? Or at our hero ogling a nude girl in the locker room? Or how the Chief of Police is an ex-Nazi? Kids today really need to be exposed to more good, dark humor.

Seriously unless the remake has a scene where a kid gets run over twice by sociopath teenagers, I'm not interested.
