"Puzzle bosses" are more or less the same as the normal types; the linear HP grinding is just replaced by figuring out how to damage it.

Another top-down RE-style game, Dead of Darkness:

Mina the hollower is coming out on the 29th
Its fun but I feel like it asks a bit too much precision of the player. Almost every boss can be killed in 20 seconds or less but the window for getting that shot in can be incredibly small so you die a lot trying to hit it. Because you just have to land the 1 shot you're encouraged to play riskier since if you die missing the shot you also missed your window and thus a restart is the same as waiting for the window to open again.

I liked this game a lot though I don't think it's quite as good as Zelda or Crystalis.
