The cast seems very focus group tested.
From the old cast, you've got Harley, Waller and Boomerang which were pretty much the only characters that people liked. There's Flag but he might die.
Will Smith probably asked for $50 million or some other ridiculous sum so they booted him.
I want to see Fillion and Rooker but aside from them, the cast is, as the kids say, a nothingburger.
Hopefully, Gunn will bring some color to this franchise because the other ones involving Harley were so dull in that department.
Gunn is also writing so I'm expecting no tension whatsoever and every dramatic moment to be destroyed by a dumb joke. Hopefully, the jokes will at least be funny.

I don't know this IP aside from the recent movies so I'm not sure who's good, who's evil and who's there to add to the bodycount.

I'll wait for the first trailer but even then, it might be a trick.
The first Suicide Squad had what might have been the best movie trailer of that year and the movie was nothing like it.
Either way, I'm pirating this so it doesn't matter.

Oh man, that's got to be one of my all time favorite trailers, it was just amazing and way better than the actual movie.

It isn't the only time DC pulled a stunt like that, the trailer for Man of Steel was brilliant, it made it look like "Terrence Malick's Superman" and the actual movie sucked.
 
Honestly tired of the Suicide Squad at this point. They feel overused for characters introduced to the wider public in, what? 2015?
There are already two animated movies that were decent, a terrible live action film, and now a video game that looks sort of..IDK. This series just feels like Warner is trying to create a new Teen Titans since that was a relatively unknown team that was given mass success in the 2000s. The difference is, Teen Titans actually earned the mainstream fandom, whereas Suicide Squad seems artificially shoved into everything to get you to care. The entire franchise is just hinging on Harley Quinn, without her they would be nothing, the only problem is DC is continually making a Harley more insufferable outside of a few video games.

I would say James Gunn is a plus, but Guardians 2 was pretty bad, and Harley Quinn seems to be on a streak of terrible outings. I have very little faith in this or much of any of DC’s properties on film. The Batman looks alright, Justice League Snyder Cut is going to be god awful lets be real, Black Adam could be good, and Flash Point will likely make the whole thing a train wreck of way too many Batmans when Michael Keaton could have just done Batman Beyond already.

God I feel cynical. I grew up with DC and prefer them to Marvel, but this whole super hero trend has burnt me out way to much to care.
 
Harley Quinn is a great character but she's overstayed her welcome imo. She's just not that good as the lead in a big budget film. I'm really hoping this isn't Gunn trying to make Suicide Squad into a Marvel style action/comedy but they've already alluded to that being the case. They need a much better villain this time around because I genuinely do not care about any of these expendable characters' shallow character arcs. They're just going to kill a bunch of them for shock value and you can't base an entire movie around that gimmick and the occasional one liner. Give me an actual villain of note and maybe a cameo or two otherwise it's just Harley and Friends pt. 3.

I had this problem when I watched Joker. Like, he seemed pretty messed up but it didn't spell it out for me in literal letters on his forehead so HOW CAN I KNOW FOR SURE?
 
Guys, remember when Aquaman tried to be Thor: Ragnarok? They even used synth music in one part? That's what they're doing here, except they got a director that actually did a Marvel movie this time.
 
I can already tell my opinion of the film will ride or die on whether or not James Gunn can find the strength to be the only director in film history who resists the urge to put the only Buffalo Springfield song anyone has ever heard before in his Vietnam-era action movie.

Waller is the only reason I have favorable (or to be honest almost any) memories of the first movie. She is my favorite DC Villain, and she was very well done. The kind of stone cold bitch that will stare a literal God in the eyes til they blink, so cocksure of the righteousness of her actions that she can commit God Damned atrocities and sleep soundly.

All I care about in this movie is that they don't fuck her up, so she's probably gonna get killed for doing something a 3 year old would be cautious with.

In a more virgin mindset, thinker seems like a real odd choice for a Suicide Squad team. He's the kind of character that would quickly find a precise frequency blackout and they disable the bomb with the electronics from a digital watch.

I'm guessing Fillion, Rooker, Capaldi, and Cena are all cameos. Elba, Shark, Boomerang, Harley, and Polka Dot Man will be in main team, Weasel will be comic relief, and the rest are toss ups on if they die in the cameo team or as minor characters in the main team.

Edit: I also predict Capaldi is going to be vulgar as fuck, he was before Dr Who, and I'm betting this was a fun few days of shitting on being Britain's Captain Kangaroo
 
I have faith in Gunn, he's given full creative control and its been reported that this will go for an R rating, which is when Gunn is usually at his best.
 
So will James Gunn keep Margot Robbie's ego in check since she whined and complained about wearing a sexy outfit in the previous SS movie which led to........whatever the fuck she wore in the Birds Of Prey movie (oh I'm sorry you happen to have a sexy body millions of women would kill for, and I didnt even like the 2016 live action Harley Quinn look!, Arkham City look is best!)

At least she’s actually a member of the team of the movie she’s in, unlike “Birds of Prey but actually it’s just a Harley Quinn movie.”
