Was chatting with a guy the other day and he was heavily concerned that YouTubers are making content about working with police and catching predators. I get it, you don't want there to be a profit incentive (YT ad revenue) behind finding and exposing pedophiles and even sensationalizing said content, because it may encourage false flags. He agreed that Roblox deserves everything it's getting, at least. But I didn't really have much to say regarding his disagreement with such a practice, other than "let us 'muricans have our legal manhunts and have God sort them out."
I'm out of the loop regarding Chris Hansen. What's fucked up about the guy?

Chris Hansen didn't start any Anti-pedo crusade, he was selected by the network to be the face guy because he was a good interviewer and could swallow his disgust to interview pedos and get them to open up despite being caught in a nightmare scenario.
The pedo stings were arranged by other groups, some with network funding/resources. Network employees did all the leg work, found the bait actors, coordinated with LEO, etc. Chris Hansen just showed up with the cameras and tried (with a good success rate) to get them to talk on camera. He is (or at least is able to come off as) a likeable guy.
Outside of that role, again as pointed ut, he's jsut a normal retarded TV personality who got suckered into scams, was a retard with money, and fucked up at least one prosecution via incompetence with evidence (I forget the details)
All that said, he brought attention and awareness to the issues of online pedos so I don't overly care if he was paid or used it build his brand or w/e. He helped stop pedophiles and that's a good thing.
He's a washed up hasbeen since to catch a predator doing things like shilling scams, fake escobar/cartel affiliated smart phones and fucking up the onision investigation until it was totally non-viable.

If you're 13, 14, 15, 17, whatever, and you're lusting after 9, 10 year olds or around 5 years less than your age as a minor, there's no helping you, you're a pedofaggot and the only cure is a 9mm through your head. I know when I was in high school any senior boys who went after Freshmen girls got socially ostracized, never mind younger then that.
When I was in school, it really depended. If seniors/juniors went after random freshmen, it was a minor scandal, because it was assumed he wanted a dumb girl he could worm into her panties with "don't you want to do what the older kids are doing? you aren't some middle schooler who thinks dating just stops with kisses are you?"
But if it was a girl they had some connection with - mutual friends, church, clubs, parents, lived in the same neighborhood - it didn't get any notice except for he was over 18 some jailbait jokes.
Same sort of thing as dating a highschool girl in college - dating your HS girlfriend, no issues. Dating a girl from the grade below who had a huge crush on you and finally worked up the nerve to talk you, that's ok. But just coming back after fall break with "I got a GF, I met her at a party, she's 16 and in highschool" was going to get you shunned as a pedo.
There was a guy who as a HS junior was dating a girl in final year of Jr. high and got ribbed for it a lot, but didn't face any real social ostracizing because she was the little cousin of one of his friends; basically it was clearly they were in contact for other reasons and just happened to develop a mutual attraction. And A) if her cousin was cool with it, who were we to say anything and B) dude would have had to have been seriously dating her, if he was using her or otherwise was a dog he'd have to answer to his friend/her cousin and probably the rest of his family.
No other person in highschool would have dared come out with the fact they were dating a junior highschooler.
A 17 year old HANGING AROUND 10 year olds, let along trying to hook up, was going to be mocked into compliance. And probably someone would have gotten a teacher.
