Random thought that I wanted to share somewhere, but thought that it might kick up a shitstorm on any of my various social media accounts.

Ever since I returned to campus for the school year, my RA has been emphatically urging me to tell him whenever there's anything that's bothering me or making me feel uncomfortable, anything at all, do not hesitate to let him know, etc. etc. Today I did send him a text (he wasn't in his room) letting him know that it reeked of cigarette smoke in the bathroom (smoking is not allowed within 25 feet of buildings and all that, also the smell makes me feel sick) and the smell was starting to come into my room (right next to the bathroom), and he sent me a text back that was all like "Ok thanks!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IMMEDIATELY IF THERE'S ANYTHING BOTHERING YOU OR MAKING YOU UNCOMFORTABLE" and then later today he flagged me down in person and was all like "PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO TELL ME IF THERE'S SOMETHING BOTHERING YOU" and I'm just thinking, dude, I just did???

I thought at first that maybe it was because I'm generally quiet and introverted, and I spend so much time in my room doing my own thing, so I must be too shy to speak up about what's bothering me. But after our first house meeting this evening, seeing everyone that lives here all together in one room, I started wondering:

Is it because I'm the only white girl living here?

Does he think I'm so white that I'm uncomfortable being around so many black people? That I can't put up with the stereotypical outgoing in-your-face attitude that black culture tends to produce?

There is one other white student living in our house (who is like my bff here, not because of his skin color but because he's my only housemate in my major and we've had like a bazillion classes together), but I haven't seen our RA being so helicopter-y about him. Is it because he's a strong male and I'm not???

idk. Just something I needed to get out. I'm probably overthinking it, lol.

I was gonna say, sounds like he's using the whole RA thing as a way to bridge a gap or something. Generally it's easier to make friends with someone when there's a purpose or a reason they can fall back on to justify coming into contact with you a lot. It doesn't have to mean he LIKES likes you, but it's not a bad thing either if it turns out he does. (Unless you're with someone? then yeah, maybe not so good)

Or maybe he only feels comfortable coming to you and saying that kind of stuff? Sounds like if there are people breaking rules within the house, not many would actually go to him for problems.

Hahaha, okay, I think I may have screwed the pooch here...

I was on a site (I won't say which one, but no, it wasn't the dating site I was browsing during the livestream with Phil or a dating site at all for that matter), and I found a guy looking for a relationship or friendship in the area. This is really foreign to me because nobody in town uses the internet, but he's just like, three years older than me and seemed unique compared to everyone else in town. I kind of wanted to meet him because I have a car and my image at home would probably be improved if I started going out with friends more often and my mom will stop thinking I'm some kind of psychopath. But the way I worded it... he's not on now and hasn't replied, but I think I might have a date with another guy. Like a go to the movies get dinner and kiss in the car date. I mean, I tried to make sure I just wanted to get to know him or grab lunch or something, but I think the mistake I made was saying, "see if our relationship could go a little further." I can't edit my message either. Now I think it'd be rude to write a message back to him saying I don't want to get into a relationship and I just meant that I wanted to maybe be good friends with him. I mean, he doesn't seem like a bad guy at all. Seems a hell of a lot nicer than some of the random people I've encountered here. Sounded appealing too, black hair, 150 lbs., 5' 10", cooks, loves dogs, and wants to be a nurse and cares for the elderly and stuff. I guess I'll just wait and see how he interprets it. Everything will either be the same and I'll have a new buddy to hang out with, or I'll be getting kissed by a dude in a few days.
