That said, what is it about BG3 that has people raving about it being “revolutionary”, “a wake-up call to the industry”, and “one of the greatest achievements in the medium”? Cause while I’m sure it’s great (and definitely has more new in it than other nominees like TOTK and SM2), this is something that many other games have been acclaimed of doing in the past (TW3, BOTW, RDR2, ER, etc).

What does BG3 do exactly that has people worshiping it so much that other games from the past haven’t done?

It has a bit more agency and less railroading and a lot of interactive solutions.

But honestly that's good but not revolutionary.

It is more of a return to older standards, when games came out completed, patches addressed fan feedback, no microtransaction hells (I am looking at you Owlcat) and just a lot of polish.

It is still pozzed, but less so than most other games. Nexusmods is totally pozzed but that isn't Larian's fault.

So... it is a game that works on release and gets useful stuff as free patches.
Which is something gamers deserved but haven't got in a long time.

Literally the only announcement that caught my eye was that Jurassic Park game, and that's only because I'd kill for a competent Jurassic Park/dinosaur (Especially Park and not the World crap) horror game or and can overlook the trailer being "Remember this from the only great film in the franchise!?" It shows Ponies that they don’t have a Stranglehold on Marvel characters just cuz they have Spider-Man.

Honestly, Alan Wake 2 was the best game I played all year. Runner-up was Tunic, which was absolutely awesome.

AW2 was such a letdown for me after the first one, the constant jumpscares gave me a headache, especially in the senior home, and the game stops dead when you have to juggle through different scenarios in the character’s Mind Places in order to find the path forward. In addition, I hated that they remapped the buttons for no good reason, so aiming your flashlight at an enemy is its own separate trigger, and they nerfed the flashlight itself.

Baldur's gate 3 was mediocre. It's dialogue is a step above fallout 4 and all the npcs are degenerates. Yeah yeah, bear sex is a meme, but if you remove the "please have sex with me" dialogue then the npc party member dialogue boils down to "wow look at this" or "hey, do this quest." All the dialogue options are "say yes politely", "say no politely", "say yes rudely", "say no rudely", (skillcheck) "do the quest for me" or (class) "nerd shit".
The combat is just DnD 5e. I will make no judgement on that one way or the other.
BUT. I still think it deserves goty. Why?

- ToTK took 5 years to release and amounted to high quality but overpriced dlc that turns the game into Garrysmod

- Mario Wonder is cool but it's not even close to being the best platformer released this year
