Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Now donkeys and mules, from what I understand, actually have a better chance of fending off those four-legged monstrosities. They can't run as fast as a horse so instead of fleeing they turn and fight and because their only option is to kill the thing attacking them, they'll bite, toss, stomp, kick, even bite and shake the offending shitbull until it's dead.
donkeys are pretty amazing. theyre the only animal of their size that wont back down when faced with a lion. a shitty little murder mutt has a decent chance of getting its ass beaten to death

Argh, even a quick persual of the last couple of pages of this thread makes me MOTI. I hate people with the fetish for totally unsuitable dogs because they think they make them look cool or tough or the Best Rescuer Ever. Some dogs should be euthanized, never, ever adopted out. Shelters that participate in bully breed whitewashing propaganda also tend to lie about dogs' background or miniize their unsuitability to be around kids. It used to be the dogs who had bitten anyone unprovoked or were unstable or aggressive were euthanized by owners or by shelters - this no kill culture is really getting out of hand. You cannot save every dog, and some dogs will never ever be suitable pets.

Case in point: Lexi Branson. Girl was killed by 'gentle' bulldog with seven previous owners that was labelled as not suitable for faimilies with kids - shelter nonetheless gave the dog to a single mother of a four year-old.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-29109652

A mother has described how she stabbed the family's rescue dog to stop it attacking her four-year-old daughter.

Lexi Branson died after being bitten at home in Mountsorrel, near Loughborough, Leicestershire, on 5 November.

Her mother Jodi Hudson told Rutland and North Leicestershire Coroner's Court Lexi had been off sick from school.

Staff at the kennel which rehomed the dog had said it was more suited to a family without small children but had "no concerns" about its new home.

The inquest was told the dog called Mulan by the family, which was described as an Aylestone bulldog-type breed, had only been in their home for four to five weeks before it attacked Lexi.

It had had seven previous owners and during that time had attacked another family dog, but the Willow Tree Kennels, in Barrow-on-Soar, had not been told about that incident.

'Straight for her throat'
Giving evidence, Ms Hudson said Lexi was used to giving the dog cuddles and had shown no sign of aggression.

Ms Hudson told the inquest she had previously described the dog as "very gentle" and that it had never shown any aggression to her to Lexi before the attack.

However, on the day the four-year-old was off sick, she had been watching TV with her mother when, Ms Hudson said, the dog "just went up on all fours and just stared at Lexi".

"I tapped her bum and said, 'Mulan, no', and as I did she went for Lexi.

"She went straight for her throat, then around her mouth."

Ms Hudson, who had previously never owned a dog, told the hearing how she tried to pull the dog's legs apart and smashed a glass on its head before grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing the animal several times.

She gave her daughter first aid until paramedics arrived.

Despite treatment and being airlifted to hospital, the four-year-old girl died shortly afterwards of facial injuries and suffocation.

Det Sgt Kenny Henry, of Leicestershire Police, said while the dog had seemed "placid" it had attacked a previous owner's other dog in the garden.

Mulan's temperament had been assessed by a member of staff at the kennels who had no qualifications regarding dogs but years of experience with dealing with the animals, the inquest heard.

Kennels staff member Sammi Pestell said she had found the animal was "very sweet natured" with a "lovely temperament".

The kennels had advised the dog was better suited to a home without children due to its size but a member of staff told the hearing that advice was left to the new owner's discretion.

I don't think these bully breeds even need to exist anymore. They are obsolete. We no long do any of the activities they were bred for, so why keep them around as pets? Pit bulls were created to participate in a brutal bloodsport ritual - bull baiting. Every single aspect of their phsyicality and mentality has been created by humans to be capable of taking down a fucking 1000lb angry bull in a pack.

If you have huskies, you better live way up north and have a sled for them to pull. People who keep huskies in suburbia are generally morons entranced by the pretty fur and eyes and don't give a shit those dogs were bred to run all day, live in snow and ice and will happily treat babies and young children as prey. Similarly, Border Collies belong on farms herding sheep, not kept in an apartment bored out of their minds. Jack Russells are bred to be ratters. If you don;t have rats for them to catch, what's the point? These dogs all get arsey without the work they were bred for and exert their drives in any way they can.

Don't even start me on the pathetic wannabes who keep wolfdogs either. No, you're not a Viking, you're a fat desk jockey who LARPS as one on on weekends and keeps dangerous. untrainable animals in his back garden where they will one day kill someone.

This case is noteworthy as it's not your typical case in which the dog mistakes an infant, aging grandma or epileptic for a kong toy...the victim was a grown man, the pitbull was sicced on him by its owner, who was herself attacking the man and had to be tased.

A pit bull attack led to the accidental killing of a western Massachusetts man with a crossbow, prosecutors said.

It happened in an apartment in Adams, Mass., Wednesday. The two dogs belonged to the victim, Joshua Jadusingh, 27, Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington told a news conference, according to reports.

She said Thursday the man who fired the crossbow was a neighbor of Jadusingh’s. She called the man a “good Samaritan."

The neighbor heard Jadusingh's screams for help and retrieved the crossbow he uses for hunting when he saw what was happening, WBZ-TV reported.

Harrington said that the neighbor was standing at the bottom of a staircase when he fired the crossbow at one of the pit bulls standing at the top of the stairs in front of a door Jadusingh was hiding, trying to get away from the dogs, according to the station.

“The neighbor shot the crossbow, hit the dog in the scruff of the neck,” she said. “The dog did not die, but the crossbow, it’s called a bolt, the bolt went through the door and unfortunately hit somebody behind the door.”

The pit bulls had a history of fighting and aggression, the station reported.

Their names were Max and Durma, WAMC-TV reported.

Harrington said the dogs were shot and killed after hurling themselves at officers called to the scene, according to the station.

Jadusingh's young daughter was in the apartment at the time. She was not injured.

Harrington said the neighbor wouldn't be charged.

“He was actually quite good friends with his neighbor, and he knew that there was a child in the home, and it was a really, really difficult and stressful situation for him to be in and I think he did his best under the circumstances,” she said, WAMC reported.

Talk about a bad day, you get mauled by your own dogs and then shot with a crossbow. He shouldn't have had those shit bulls in a house with children though so he was kind of asking for it.

I love animals, especially dogs. I've had dogs my entire life. I've currently got three dogs who are absolute sweethearts and great with my boys: a Great Dane/Weimaraner hybrid male, a Lab/Schnauzer mix female (both nearly two years old), and a Pug female (a little over six years old). I do my best to be a responsible dog owner.

I can understand people who say "my dogs are my kids" because before our boys were born the Dachshund and Toy Fox Terrier we had were very much like our kids. I consider my dogs family. But you can damn sure bet that if either of my dogs hurt my boys that I'd take them out back and put them down. It would break my heart, but I'd do it without hesitation. Any dog can attack, but I research the breeds I get to make sure they're known to be good with children. Odin, my Great Weimar, is especially good with kids. He will let my youngest crawl all over him, pull his ears, sit on him like a horse. I always stop my son when he does because I'm teaching him to respect animals, but Odin would be perfectly happy if I didn't.

For the most part I'm in the "It's the owner, not the animal" camp...except with Shit Bulls. Fuck Shit Bulls. Pits, ALL Pits, can snap and turn dangerous regardless of training. I will NEVER own a Shit Bull or Pit mix, and here's why:

My dad worked in law enforcement. He worked for a state agency full-time and a federal agency part-time. His partner with the federal agency was very experienced with dogs and dog training. When he was in the Army he was a dog handler, including jumping out of planes with the dog harnessed to him. Served in Desert Storm with a GSD. When he went into law enforcement he was a K9 officer for years. He had two blue nosed Pits that he trained for agility courses. He bought them as puppies from his friend who was an AKC breeder. They were papered from champion bloodlines. His daughter grew up with these two dogs. They had never shown aggression once. Didn't even bark at neighbor dogs. He comes home from work one day to see his two dogs covered in blood and the house dead silent. He comes in to see his dogs had mauled and killed his wife and five year old girl. He took his dogs to the backyard, drew his sidearm, shot the dogs, then himself. These two dogs that he raised, trained, and trusted had snapped and mauled his family to death. They figure the dogs had started with the girl, his wife tried to save her, and they then mauled the wife.

That is why I will never own a Shit Bull and think the breed should be illegal. This man was as experienced with dogs and as good of a dog owner as you could find. His dogs were highly trained, but never trained to be attack dogs. They were trained to run obstacle courses and catch frisbees. I had even met these dogs several times when they invited my family over for dinner or football games. They were trained, socialized, and had always been good dogs. But since they were Pits, something happened and they snapped. With Shit Bulls, it IS the animal. The shitty people who tend to own the breed just make things worse.

The shitty people who tend to own the breed just make things worse.

The attitudes of the owners and all the pittie love, #PittieNation people are a huge part of the problem. The pit rescues are even worse, they are known to lie about an animals history for the simple fact...the animal wasn't aggressive under their watch.
That's why our county animal control/shelter no longer do anything but put these dogs down.

We took over my husbands family farm.
We have bobcats, foxes, coyotes and other potential preditors in the area that have been caught on our cams that you might think would go after our livestock.
None of those have been a problem, if anything they GTFO when humans approach .
What has been going after us, attacking and in 2 cases killing livestock and at least 1 barn cat?
Pits.
These motherfuckers will go after cows!
The farm is in a beautiful area but also has been deeply hit by the opioid epidemic and guess who loves to own pits by the yard full...

These are people that will send their starving kids to school in flipflops in January and tell the teacher to fuck herself when she buys shoes for the kids with her own money, but don't you dare question them if their goddamn pit attacks you.

The one that we managed to track down to the owner after going after my stepkid actually accused my stepkid (who was just doing chores outside on our property) of enticing the dog.
These tweakers actually threatened to sue because I pepper sprayed the dog to get it off my kid.
The sheriff gets involved and guess who had arrest warrants out?
Protecting something that was going for a kids face sure worked out well for them.

The constable and sheriff have both told us our kid was lucky this time, what to do next time and it doesn't involve pepper spray or calling animal control.

they go right for the face on livestock, too. I saw some horrible photos of someones alpaca farm getting absolutely ruined by neighbors with pits, and it was a bunch of half dead animals with shredded faces.

It's funny, my dog is half Jack Russell and is scared to death of mice. Guess he got the wrong half.
I actually like Jack Russells a lot. But I know that they can be nippy. I just never had an issue myself. My dog still has tons of energy even though at 15 he sleeps a lot more. I don't know how he runs like that. It's a good dog if you want to run and play a lot with them. But you may have to keep up for twenty years. Because they never seem to run out of steam. Not a good breed to get if you are older or can't/won't expend some energy,

I am used to handling rottweilers and german shepherds. But I would never recommend one to a novice. Also, both breeds are subject to hip problems. I really wish shepherds hadn't been bred into that ridiculous stance.

Bulldogs are bred to be so fucked up anyway that they cost a fortune to keep healthy. A lot of them have bad overbites, breathing problems and need a c-section because natural birth can kill them.

I think anything bred to have disabilities for aesthetic purposes is really sad. That's inhumane and another argument in itself.

Last week I was walking to Walgreens and there was a pitbull wandering around outside dragging a leash. It was rush hour and she was petrified of the traffic and kept trying to hide under parked cars. I was afraid to move because I didnot want to walk past her and I was also afraid of being followed since she saw me and I was only a few yards away. So some lady starts yelling "Your dog out!" and then a guy comes out of the same house and says "she keep gettin' out" and brings her back in. The only thing keeping her from escaping the porch was a big piece of old chipboard propped over the gateway.

So this guy tied his dog to an unsecured porch and wonders why she keep gettin' out? :cringe:

Nigga, your dog gonna be gone.

All TyQwaan need to see is that dog wandering around and he gets a free dog. You'll never see that dog again. There's already one missing around here and I doubt she ever got found in this hood.

So many people with pittbulls have unsecured yards and porches. Thereos a guy around here who fixes cars. And in the summer he had a pitbull on the porch all night to keep people from taking stuff. The fence is like three feet high ancient wooden dowels.

If you insist on a dangerous breed you better have a big, secure fence that locks up tight.

I hope the Good Samaritan neighbor who accidentally killed his neighbor-friend while trying to save him from the shibbles can find peace. He'll live with that for the rest of forever.

Absolutely horrifying. Thank you for sharing.
As I read more about pitbull attacks, I just can't believe that it's the owner and not the dog. There are too many cases of people who just look like stellar owners getting mauled by their shitbulls. Sure, they COULD have secretly been bad owners.. you can't really prove that they weren't and I guess that's the appeal of the argument. But I don't think that can possibly be the case when there are so many of these instances. They can't all be bad owners. It's so unlikely.
At this point, I feel like some famous dog trainer would have to get mauled for people to rethink "it's the owner, not the dog." But even that wouldn't really stop pit nutters.
There's also the fact that there many other bad owners with different breeds of dogs and those dogs don't maul as many people.
Pitbulls are banned in the UK, and they have proportionally far fewer fatal dog attacks than the US. Many of the remaining fatal dog attacks are illegal pitbulls people have anyway. If it's just shitty owners, wouldn't those shitty owners have moved on to a different breed?

Yeah, they got sheep and a goat of ours plus a barn cat.

I could accept something like a coyote getting our animals, thats nature/life and at least they would eat part of them.
These dogs kill for fun and leave.

I wont sperg on what seeing my stepkid like that did.

Now we dont tend without a cattle prod and fire power.

That was the advice of the sheriff ...and touches on the above tragedy of the crossbow.
It is hard to get a clean and safe shot during the chaos of an attack, the cattle prod usually gives a chance of seperation and enough room to get in a clean shot.
