I could be wrong but I don't think that they do norplant anymore. It was a thing in the 90's and aughties. Seemed pretty good, lasted 5 years, but there were issues, like some people would start having bad reactions a few years in and need it removed, and it turned out that removal was a little more difficult than anticipated. It kinda got dropped in favor of depo, rings, and IUD' s seem to be really popular now.

Well, a lot of that just comes down to pure difficulty to engineer something like that. It's a lot easier to create a drug that will stop one cell from developing (the ovum) than it is to stop about 300 million cells from developing (sperm).

Well that seems really defeatist. Maybe talk with her and her doc about other options for the anemia. Lots of women get cycle based anemia, maybe the pill isn't the best choice. No one needs to " force" her to change medicine. I've never heard of birth control having an effect on sex drive. If she is only taking it for anemia, that seems strange. Maybe you guys really need to talk.
Never said you should. I just pointed out if the pill is an issue at times and one of the main reason a person is on it is is for an ancillary benefit like lightening oc periods, there are alternatives that arent hormonal BC.
