The Best Game Endings (spoilers) - aka gush about awesome games

Borderlands 2

You defeat Handsome Jack and get promises of more adventures with our Vault Hunters in the future through the cosmos as they hunt for more vaults now that we have a map showing their locations all over.

"No Rest for the wicked...~"

Besides, the credits music afterwards is just the tits.

{}

Gives you the perfect "oh yeah, we are the best..." feel.

Final Fantasy VI: Yeah it's kind of your typical 'good guys defeat bad guy, now everything is going to get better' ending, but I've always loved it. Sometimes, an ending doesn't need some subtle twist or some gut punch moment, sometimes just having the good guys win is the best ending.

Ironically enough, 6 is mostly bitter than sweet.

The world is irreversably fucked up thanks to Kefka. Magic, which would help quite a lot in fixing it, is gone. All magical creatures and espers are dead, Terra only survived because of her human half (hell, originally she WAS meant to die at the ending but they changed their minds last second) and all there is left is hope things will get better now Kefka is gone.

I will always respect 6 for having the guts to say no to an outright happy ending.

The world is fucked and magic as well as the espers are gone (from the human world anyways), but the ending scenes show the world slowly recovering. To me, it's a hopeful and happy ending.

We also don't know if all the magical creatures are dead, or if it was magic at all the animals were using.

It makes one wonder if there's more than one mystical force in the FF6 world, and if so, was it affected?

I say it depends on the creature? Someone of them were obviously magical while others were more on the ordinary side. There were 3 goddess and I think they covered everything supernatural pretty much so any supernatural creatures would either just die or turn into a "non supernatural" equivalent like Terra did at the end.

Even if my feelings on Cyberpunk 2077 is .... mixed, I have to say that the Devil ending was great in how unnerving it and made me feel not at ease.
So After you win the final boss fight against Smasher or what the fuck his name was, V collapses. You wake up in a hospital room and are put though tests.
The thing is that the test and total isolation is repeated time and time again and it looks like it doesn't make any sense at all. When this happen the music is used to great effect and feel into the unease you feel. Then the coporeation guy come and say that any way to save you is futile. You will die. He do however, give you two chooses, Choose one: Live on like Johnny did in a chip and an AI forever. Or two, say fuck it all and live out the rest of the day.

It is a real downer ending I would say, compare to the others which at least left some hopes, this leave you feel like shit. I liked it.

I know that is going to sound insane but...

Duke Nukem Forever

Hear me out, the game is crap but the ending where Duke Nukem saves the world once again AND then announces he will run for President is a kickass ending.

It deserved to be in a better game, thats for sure.

Gonna throw my hat into the ring:

Disco Elysium.
I loved how all of your choices in the game come up in one final test for the MC Harry (aka Tequila Sunset) to conquer. How you handled the case, the climax of the story, your own relationship with Kim, it all adds up in one big send-off. It also helps that there's so much foreshadowing (the supernatural PALE and political turmoil) for more plots to come in the next game that it leaves you hyped for what's to come.

Bayonetta 1 ended pretty much perfectly. You defeat God by punching her into the sun, Bayo fakes-out her death, and you get to do a few more final angel fights while a fun as fuck track plays and the credits roll. Plus Bayo pole dancing and an obligatory dance number because why not.

Preceded by the most epic boss battle in the history of video games (timestamped for ur convenience)

Shadow of War, both the initial ending and the “golden ending” after the Shadow Wars. The betrayal is actually sad, it’s clear that Talion saw Celebrimbor as a friend and if you bothered to get the collectables you had some pretty touching conversations that suggest these two strangers bound by fate have become good friends. Their bickering at the start is almost brotherly and Talion without hesitation gave up the new ring to save his “friend.”

So it comes as a gut punch when Celebrimbor abandons Talion and coldy watches as his wound reopens and Talion starts to die. Only being saved by damming himself to wear a cursed ring.

No final charge on Sauron, power corrupted your ally and now it will start to work on you, perfectly fitting the theme of Tolkien’s works.

Celebrimbor and Sauron are doomed to fight eternally in their shared form while Talion fights the long war.

Then comes the golden ending, Talion falls and joins the Nine. The Witch-King puts a hand on his shoulder in an almost warm, fatherly way and welcomes his newest brother.

Then LOTR happens and Talion finally is allowed to die, his torment over and all his pain is left behind as he finally enters the West, presumably reuniting with his family.

That game was great, lorefags can fuck off. It was perfectly in-line with the theme of the universe, who cares if they made some slight changes?

Dead space doing the
N I C O L E I S D E A D
With the first letter of ever chapter. Then having Issac in the ship at the end was great.
To be fair, Dead Space did have a habit of nailing the endings. Even on the maligned third one, learning that it was so much more horrifying than space zombies was great. The universe was literally in a state of “dead space.”

BROTHERMOONSAREAWAKE

CAYNE had such a chilling ending for me, that it has stuck with me ever since I played it a few months back. It's a free small top down isometric point and click game developed by The Brotherhood, the game is a segue to their other release called Stasis.
This game played me as the developers expected, in terms of the twists and piecing everything together to the end.

Playing as a pregnant woman in some cultish science facility that went through hell, you need to find a way to get out while being accompanied by a voice of a hanging mutated Frankenstein corpse.

When you find out the hanging Frankenstein corpse at the start of the game who you thought you were talking to is out of the question of being able to communicate as it was just a sex toy for one of the scientists lackeys. You start to figure out who you are talking to this whole time. It is then that I had the thought of it being the baby in you. I thought it was insane enough but I didn't stick with it. It was then in the elevator when you escape you start to give birth and its violent based on sound effects and the baby speaks to you "Hello Hadley." It was super chilling and I haven't forgot about it.

Cruelty Squad's normal ending because the closing text is raw as fuck.
"You emerge from a long and weary sleep.
The world appears as a large flat plane of opportunity.
The sky is boundless and blue.
You are among friends.
The air is fresh with the scent of the ocean.
You have learned acceptance and forgiveness.
But you lack knowledge and understanding.
You will be trapped forever.
The past is ever-present."

"The sun smiles at you with eternal malice."

Singularity's ending where if you side with the 'bad guy' promising you to rule the world together, he is not lying and won't just shoot you to teach you a lame lesson because devs are idiots.
Also the secret ending you get if you yeet both the 'bad guy' and the 'good guy' and become extremely based.

inFamous 2's good ending was quite the emotional roller coaster, and the last line capped it off wonderfully.

"I love you brother, and I'm sure gonna miss you."

I used to hate Alan Wake's ending when I first played it as a retarded teen, but now as a retarded adult, I think I love it. It's perfect for what game it is trying to be. Hyped for the sequel.
