I'm planning on being in Bamberg very soon and am planning to get some smoked beer while I'm there. Any recommendations, or is it just overrated?
I'd be interested, too, although it's hard to imagine smoked beer (which I had never heard of before your post) could possibly be bad.

You have to try it, its not for everyone. but even if you dont like it, they have plenty of other local beer.
I wish you good luck with the weather and a happy time in some beer garden

Slight update: managed to try some today. Pretty good overall: sufficiently smoky aroma and flavor, with some distinctive smoky highnotes. It kinda tasted like the beer equivalent of an Ardbeg. General score: 7/10.

Pour one out for Steel Reserve and Olde English as they are being discontinued.
My friend lost it all once and was crashing on my couch he was drinking nothing but 211. One day I was trying to be nice snagged him one and hand to God bought one for the hobo living on the beer store stoop.. he turned it down.

Had a long shitty day, treated my self to a victory sour monkey. God these are good and hit at 9.5% ABV. I love strong sours.

normally I run trash beer like High Life because bottles
what was in the store and cheap tonight per ounce was some Foster's giant cans
honestly not bad
I lean more bottle over can because I'm a picky bitch, but for per dollar payoff these weren't bad given I didn't have to buy a 24 pack of cans or shit

Got a six pack of this stuff tonight.

Shouldn't have. It tastes disgusting.

Should have stuck with Heineken.

Ive learned to appreciate Sam Adams for cooking with beef. Not a big fan of drinking it though.
I like Guinness for that, same about actually drinking it. Cup of Guinness, cup of brown sugar, heat on medium until barely boiling, reduce heat to just below boiling, let it reduce until it's a little over half the original volume. Drizzle over anything but beef is best.

Thanks for the tip. Do you know anything about marinating in whiskey? I had a london broil that sat in wild turkey once and i thought it was pretty good

Hobgoblin is the best with beef I've found. Lovely in chillis and beer batter.

I've never actually tried cooking with whiskey. That, I generally prefer to drink. Oh, another stout I like to cook with is Kalamazoo.
