Hot take, censorship help make shows better. Having writers explicitly writing for a target audiance allows them to focus their themes and messages for that demographic. Plus, having limits on what they can and cant do means they need to actually be clever writers to dance around things with innuendo which can actually lead to a better scene then if they could be direct with it. Sometimes constraint lead to more creativity.

Batman TAS ended up a lot better than it would have if there were no censorship safeguards in place since the writers had to get creative with what to show on screen.

On the flipside, when John K was given full reigns on making Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon, it ended up as complete dogshit despite being "fully uncensored" and a complete playground for him and other writers to play in.

I don't agree with execs clamping down on certain ideas obviously, but holy shit those given "free reign" are doing an amazing job on giving them reasons for why creators should be placed on a leash if they keep pumping out dogshit episodes and movies despite being "uncensored".

It's even dumber than that. Because goose couldn't or probably didn't want to have it directly stated so it's intentionally vague. Jax told his mother "something deeply personal" and she laughed at him and then hugged him before he pushed her off. What he told her isn't said, but Ribbit inferes that he confessed wanting to troon out to his mother, and she shows her support/care by putting her bow on him. At least that's what goonworks would have you believe. But it's so poorly executed and vague that it could even be interpreted as a friendly gesture of non-judgement after he just spilled his guts and also admitted to maybe probably killing his mother and running away.

Other criticisms outside of debating the writers thinly veiled fetish. I’m sure the fans of this loved it, but they really dragged on long boring talking sequences and I feel gross after watching it knowing goose werks jacked off to my confusion.

That's valid criticism, there's a reason people call it a therapy show. Groomworks cannot write character driven narratives and it really shows. Every episode can be summed up as "action" -> "lul" -> "exposition dump via therapy session". He's incapable of telling a compelling story through the events of the show itself and instead uses those therapy sessions as a crutch to info dump and do character development.

The issue is that while Goose makes his suicidal pre-trans self insert, there was no attempt on Glitch's end to limit, or at the very least, warn their audiences about the fact that Digital Circus is NOT safe for all ages. As a web series, Digital Circus, outside of the movie doesn't have an age rating. Its also not walled behind that "Content is inappropriate, sign in to view" thing that Youtube has. Any unsupervised child can see Zooble talking about how she wants to have sex. The parents are partially to blame for not supervising their kids, but Glitch themselves should've made some kind of effort on their end. Something as simple as a warning at the start of each episode about how "The following media is meant for a mature audience" small as it is, can make a difference.

Gooseworx is clearly upset that people care more about Ragatha's backstory than Jax.

I mean, to be fair, Ragatha is implied to have been raped at a young age which explains why she's such an emotionally stunted autist in the present day despite being the second oldest of the group, so it tracks.

What I want to know is, why the fuck is Pomni, the failed YouTuber, one of the choices? Why not Gangle (hit by a truck) or even Zooble (hates her own body) to satisfy the alphabet people? Is this person, a YouTuber, trying to tell us something here?

Allowing stronger content only works when the writers have the discipline not overuse it. I saw a few episodes of the new Devil May Cry with some buddies recently. It felt like every other word said was "fuck" and it got grating after the first 10 minutes of the first episode.
In theory I don't believe in censoring edgy content but in practice writers, especially modern writers, need editorial constraints to save them from their own worst tendencies.

Did you ever see Sims2 back in the mid 2000s? It was rated teen and had "woohoo" and "try for baby" which was just sex without saying the word. It was animated in the game in a similar way to the bobbing heart bedroom at the end of the TADC movie. You could even have gay woohoo, and being touched repeatedly by the same sex made you more gay in it. One of the main aspirations was casually fucking as many sims as possible, but even your wholesome family sims would be boning repeatedly to have all those babies they wanted.

All rated teen in 2000s, so yes, a 14 year old could buy it. From what I remember of being 14 we were all well aware of what sex was and were desperately fantasizing about it all the time. It's not like a five year old thinking about sex, which would be worrisome. The puberty books of that era even had drawings of a wholesome married couple in their missionary congress, and those were designed to be read by 10-12 year olds. Health class at 14 teaches most kids how to use a condom, but that they should avoid sex.

In comparison to Glitch's other shows, TADC was written to be more demographically broad. Teens were the target, and the merch sells as they are means Goose and Glitch will have no regrets. I do wish Goose had the balls to not skirt around the progressive themes in the show itself, making the show more adult oriented. I grew up with some fairly conservative parents in that regard, but they didn't object to the sims. I mean it respectfully, just interested to know where you set or will set, the guardrails.

For the generalized US audience, it does fall under teen (13+) ratings, but of course it would be at a parent's discretion if they want their kid to play a teen game or see a PG-13 or even R rated movie, and that might vary per product as all parents determine their kids are ready for things at different times.

That's fine. As I said, I was mostly wondering for the early teen cut off point that is the bog standard in the US for that sort of the thing.

Earlier in that post I mentioned how TADC got mischaracterized as children's content for a while (usually the first four episodes until Glitch argued it wasn't) and that was enough of the runtime that a lot of parents didn't expect it to go in the direction it did. My nieces were watching it and they were only 10-12 but at that point it seems like some mild horror and hijinks so it didn't seem that bad, but unrated internet content is risky. In the earlier episodes I thought a lot of the bits were more jokes that later it was seeing Gooseworx personal art that revealed those were fetish. It's exposure to cringe things like inflation and transformation at important developmental moments that gives people the particularly goofy fetishes later on and that seems to route back to cartoons. Totally Spies was basically a warcrime against the psyche of kids despite playing it as a joke or random complication most of the time and still being like, Y-7.

TADC was definitely more sinister in that watching the first episode or two, a parent might think that is passable for older kids and then it goes off the deepend in the second half. Something like Helluva Boss or Hazbin is so wildly inappropriate and wearing it on its sleeve that at least it's a clear no.
