Regarding Murder Drones, it's really not that much better, all of the relevant main characters have body counts in the dozens, possibly hundreds, and all of them (Except Doll lmao) gets to live happily ever after, this includes Cyn, the antagonist btw.

At least with MD, from literally the very first frame, it told you exactly what it was.

This is a world both written and populated by post-ironic millennials who've spent way too much time on TV Tropes, and they both regularly mock the death of any character that isn't one of the protagonists.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Jax is a cautionary tale, not a role model, and the idea that his problems could only ever be solved by trooning out is fucking insulting to any young male who's ever gone through the same sort of struggle over his place in the world or self-image and didn't go down that route. Anyone who identifies with him not out of a "yeah, been there" way but a "I feel so seen and valid!" way should take a long, hard look at themselves.

Jax is a tragic figure for many reasons, but the whole "estrogen would have saved her" shit is nothing but a cop-out. It's declaring to the world an ultimatum that unless you get your drug fix (and that's what it fucking is), you intend to be a fucking awful individual, but only because you "had no choice after being denied from being who I truly was!" Fuck that. Jax's tragedy comes from the callous and ultimately self-destructive actions he committed to repress an unwanted aspect of himself, yes. I think everyone's in agreement there. Fuck, even he states verbatim at the end that he did this to himself.

But that does not mean the solution to all that foul behavior is to simply give in to that part of himself he obviously hates. Because it is obvious he hates it, and that doesn't always have to come from "internalized [x]phobia" or other thought-terminating clichés. "Oh, if she just accepted her true self, this wouldn't have happened!" No, if he was just considerate enough of the people around him to not make it everyone else's fucking problem, it wouldn't have happened. And from there, it could go any which way. Maybe he does accept it. Maybe he works through those feelings and files them away rather than dwell on them. Or maybe he decides he truly does hate it, and works to change that part of himself so it doesn't bother him anymore. Maybe he just fucking grows up and stops being a dick.

The finale left some breadcrumbs behind that implied that abstraction is eventually reversible. In such an instance, Jax simply trooning out after being restored wouldn't absolve him of all he'd done or earn him everyone else's forgiveness. Redemption would have to come the same way it did for Caine: acknowledging his fuckups and working to fix them.

I'll give Goose this: I liked the contrast of Jax and Caine's story resolutions in the finale. Some say Caine's redemption came too easily and was unearned, but speaking from experience, sometimes it really just does take one really big "oh my god, what the fuck have I done" to turn your whole perspective around, and the realization that the players just tried to delete him (even if he didn't know it was accidental) would certainly have been enough a jolt to snap him back to reality. And in that regard, the two resolutions serve as an effective dichotomy: Caine strives to overcome his flaws and be a better person, while Jax looks back at his behavior and deems himself as having come too far. Looking at it from that lens, I think both got the closure they needed.

I do not understand. I'm trying but i can't. I know the song is called "isn't she lovely?" but that cant possibly be the only reason considering the context. You can't tell me the title of the song alone is supposed to convey that Jax identifies as a woman now.

This would be like the director of Aladdin explaining that A Whole New World isn't about a Aladdin showing a sheltered princess how different and beautiful the world is outside the castle walls, but actually that aladdin found a new planet.

This is so frustrating man. I never considered Goose a genius cinema director but i did think he had a real unique arsty indie vision with TADC worth respecting, even if fumbled the execution. But the more he explains his own creation, the more it starts to sound like it was all a fluke and digital circus was interesting by accident.

I was talking more about the absurdity of setting up a massive status quo changing plot point (caine can abstract people and is suddendly a villain) and then never doing anything with it. You could remove Kinger line about scratch and the story plays out exactly the same.
