The Amazing Digital Circus - Western Isekai that probably will become Hazbin Hotel killer
Keep in mind that he posted that thing a while ago saying he already watched it in theaters. Though, to his credit, he does acknowledges that at the start of the stream
I'll say that just because the trauma is common, doesn't necessarily mean you aren't allowed to still feel traumatized. What I take issue with is we don't get to see how it shaped Jax as a person. We only get the line that he felt like he was never good enough. Ok that's a start but how do we get from their to "I want to cut my dick off and abuse women"? If you have actual trauma then self-pity is expected but he never earns that right. Especially with how the Ribbit scene ends. He was loved, he had friends, and aside from his schizo mom we don't see any reason why he should be so defensive. They wait until the final hour to dump his backstory all at once and it only skims the surface.
What would have been better is if Jax confided in Ribbit, and she accidentally or intentionally revealed what he told her. Then Jax would have had an excuse to not trust people. Instead of that long scene where he tells us what happened why didn't they animate it? Why didn't they just show us what happened? Why didn't get a montage of different times where Jax tried to trust people and then be hurt by them? Did they forget they were writing for a movie where you can literally just show the audience? I guess so.
It's moreso Goose using his self insert like he's stunted as a melodramatic teenager who's locked in the "*deep sigh* ....you wouldn't understand my pain...... god what a fight it is to carry on.... my twisted mind is dangerous.........." phase. Then he pushes everyone around him away and blames them for his own misery, and were he still conscious, probably would blame them for his suicide. That's pansy shit I don't have time for. There are quite a few lolcows on this site like that, who just want to mire in their misery and wallow in the pity of others. It really does make sense why he's a tranny, blame his failure on something obscure ("I'm a failure because I'm secretly a woman in a man's body") and you won't ever have to own up to the fact you're the master of your own misery.
One of the most freeing things one can realize is you are not unique nor special
It really depends how far in advance the plot was outlined.
As we've seen in recent years, especially with Star Wars and the post-endgame MCU, that kind of storytelling, while fun, can be extremely frustrating. While I generally agree it could've gone on longer, given time to breath, fleshed out some more of the adventures, etc. If the option is either go on too long and wear out the audience, or finish as planned and leave the audience wanting more, the second option is preferable.
When was the last time that kind of story was done well? The Mentalist? Burn Notice? MCU pre-endgame? It's far easier to name shows and films that tried it and dropped the ball.
I think that if the whole thing had been properly plotted out right from the start it could've been compelling. Even sticking with the arbitrary nine episode cap, there would've been ample time to actually do something with the setting (you know, the adventures) while building the plot. Every show in history has done this.
The BBC did a lot of these miniseries-episode-arc type shows and did them well. Life On Mars is a notable example.
The issue is that digital circus is extremely derivative by itself, and the premise alone is fairly generic.
Its an hodgepodge of pre-existent stuff melded together in something that can only be mediocre at best, and even then glitch's execution ensured that multiple aspects wouldn't be developed well.
In fairness, I think everything is sort of derivative of something or another. I found the concept and premise, while agreeing to be derivative, to be something that could have been interesting and played with far more than what it was.
The idea of adults being trapped in a baby game and treated like children is incredibly pertinent to the infantilism of our modern culture, especially with fiction. Unfortunately they don't do anything with this and, ironically, the show is one of the biggest examples of an infantalised baby show designed for adults I've ever seen.
I have two theories.
A.) Goose was a chronic procrastinator in school and it's carried over into anything that isn't a 5 minute lolrandom animation
B.) Goose genuinely believes everyone is fragile as he is and think watching his pretroon self kill himself is as tragic as he thinks it is (ie "I'll kms and it'll be all your fault") hopped up on the troon delusion people would be sad instead of throwing a party in relief that the insufferable dickhead finally killed himself.
Considering that there seems to be a ton of plot threads (the Scratch abstraction thing the most notable) that never went anywhere, my guess is that Goose scrapped whatever plan he had for the show at some point and reframed it to be the Jax Show, and that there was some time pressure from Glitch to provide a theatrical product to capstone the whole thing. I suspect Goose also wanted to burn the bridge on this project and wrote the finale in a way to make sure of it.
You forgot about the Furry shill himself https://youtube.com/watch?v=Dgz6Dqp2q-Q

Between him, ILoveKimPossibleALot, Animated James, and BlackGryphon, it's probably best if all brony-related YouTubers just be permanently quarantined.
it's really funny how the little thought bubbles in that drawing are just all blatant worst of the worst fandom bullshit
Video essay people are taking this image 100% seriously and sharting out vids flooding my youtube recommended. seeing the full image without just the troonjax face adds so much fucking context lmao
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but, apparently Goose doesn’t have issues with his real life father. As far as we know it’s only his mother. In fact the current theory is that Kinger is based on his dad,
The whole father abandoning seems to be an exclusive to TADC, that he made up to make Jax more sympathetic.
In other words, his real life “trauma” is even less impressive. Middle class home, and a mother that didn’t approve of his transition, at least, at first. That’s Goose’s “dark” trauma.
The “Jax is trans” twitter shit is on par with Dumbledore being retroactively labeled as a cocksucker by Rowling, although in this case I think Cooper is just trolling. If he’s actually a troon they wouldn’t have referred to Leeroy as a he at the end. Also when has Jax ever displayed any troon behaviour apart from wanting to an hero? If he was a tranny he would lose his fucking shit anytime someone referred to him as a male but that never happens in the show, in fact he even states he’s an example of peak masculinity which no troon would ever do. It makes a lot more sense in context for Jax to be a regular guy that is embarrassed about his feminine interests and it’s more realistic as well. Any normal man who says they like feminine shit is either going to be called gay or be laughed at by his peers. “Isn’t she lovely” doesn’t fit Jax either, he isn’t lovely in any way, it’s much more fitting for Pomni in the context of the show and the scene itself with how she genuinely cares for the people around her. I guess you can call it cope but if Nooseworx wanted Jax to be trans he should have said it outright in the show, the fact he didn’t makes me think he’s just fucking with people.
I'm sure the Tvtropes pages for TADC are a fucking warzone right now. Jax was a man all this time, but now suddenly he has female pronouns because Goose feels like shaking things up.
The concept of heaven is only boring if you're dim enough to assume an immortal soul is running on the constraints of the human mind, which it's not. Boredom exists because humans still have base instincts to find food, shelter, and safety and we've industrialized so thoroughly we have time to twiddle our thumbs doing nothing. Boredom is an instinctive drive that tells your brain which still thinks it's living in a mudhut "if you're just sitting here, you can go scope the area for predators or pick more nuts and berries."
Sorry this "argument" that they try to use as a "gotcha, christcuck" always pisses me off.
That assumes Goose could even write a better ending. I think Goose genuinely wanted something "dramatic" and "personal" to leave things off on and decided to make it a Jax character study. But the guy can barely handle the sitcom writing in the first few episodes so no wonder the more serious finale shit the bed hard.

This is certainly possible. To me the show comes off like a mystery box that had to be resolved, and Goose was well out of his element and had written himself into a corner and wasn't going to be able to deliver. What is weird is that the show seemed to be taking the angle of each episode having a specific character focus, and then fell off the rails. In my opinion there had to be some kind of pressure from Glitch to wrap it up, and deliver something which could be passed off in a theatrical release to match up with Iron Lung and whatnot.
Yeah, tranny, keep convincing me that your ideology isn't cultist at all while seeing how they change the canon right in front of our fucking faces and you still decide to believe it without a question.
I finally got around to watching the finale.
(Really great that Gooseworx had to throw a bit of bait to get people to draw porn of Pomni and the frog girl fucking at the very last minute by the way)
So Jax actually is a tranny? I thought the "she" in "Isn't She Lovely" was Pomni, the main character of the fucking show and the main talk-no-jutsu user, rather than Gooseworx's self insert.
It's so fucking funny how it's basically a universal fact in the mind of troons that every closeted tranny is a caustic, self-destructive asshole to everyone around them, who somehow automatically become better, more chilled out people after they transition. It's such a self-report. "I was only an unlikeable douchebag who actively went out of his way to hurt people because I couldn't wear women's clothing!"
It's insane to me how happy troons are over this:
It's so fucking misogynistic how these people legitimately think that larping as a woman removes all of your negative (male) personality traits and makes you a ditzy airhead with no emotions outside of "teehee dress go spinny".
It doesn't matter how much hell you put the people who care about you through, all you need to do is put on a dress, call yourself Lilith and all your sins are forgiven! All Jax had to do was wear a dress and he'd stop being a piece of shit!
I don't get why we're supposed to fucking sympathize with Jax. He spent the entire fucking series being an insecure, violent, abrasive cunt to EVERYONE, yet we're supposed to forgive him/pity him because he crashed out on his mom, shoved her to the ground and ran away because he couldn't cope with his gender issues?
Jax is supposed to be a parallel to Ted, the protagonist of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Ted sacrifices himself by killing his friends to spare them from AM's torture, only for AM to turn him into an immortal twisted blob of flesh with no mouth. He's a paranoid wreck throughout the story, but still clear-minded enough to at least spare his friends before himself.
Jax on the other hand, drove two of his best friends to suicide via isolation and bullying, tried his fucking HARDEST to kill the rest of the remaining circus cast (Ragatha first, then Gangle, Zooble etc), and then when it was revealed that he had actually pushed real human beings to the brink with no real consequence, he runs off to his room to kill himself in silence, leaving his friends/people who care about him to deal with the consequences in the aftermath.
He's such a loathsome, pathetic fucking character. The only reason we're expected to feel bad for him is because the author projected his own mommy issues onto him. Ted from I Have No Mouth isn't a noble or pure-hearted character, but he at least understood accountability, and saved his friends from torment at no benefit to himself.
Jax really did give none of the other circus members a reason to like him or even feel bad for him, yet they still go out of their way to make sure he's comfortable after having turned HIMSELF into this show's equivalent to the gelatinous monster from IHNMAIMS
His main victim, Gangle, cries for him after this. Meanwhile Jax can only think of ways he'd torture/kill the other members of the circus after successfully killing the next member.
Shit characterization aside, Jax being a tranny metaphor makes literally zero fucking sense. There was no build up to it.
Zooble's entire fucking "arc" was about her not liking the body she was given in the circus and trying new parts out to find happiness, and her resolution was Caine allowing her to put on limbs of her choosing and become a bartender: Plot point brought up in Episode 3, resolved in the finale with absolutely no words. She's written to be nonbinary (but that doesn't stop Digital Circus fans from calling Zooble and Gangle's romance "yuri") from the start, but that's never expanded upon or addressed. She basically keeps the same body she's had the entire series, she just gets two extra arms and is now happy with the toybox Caine gave her.
Nothing prior to episode 9 ever signified that Jax had problems with his masculinity, in no episode prior did he ever try to performatively assert his masculinity, nor did he ever express discomfort being in the body of a male rabbit. The closest Jax's gender ever got to being relevant was the group voting Jax into a maid outfit during Episode 5 to torment him, do cringe "haha man in dress" anime jokes, and encourage fanart that Goose could use to jerk off to.
He actively expresses discomfort WEARING WOMEN'S CLOTHING. You'd think the "trans" character would feel more relaxed or calm in the clothing he desires, but I guess they just forgot that Jax was totally trans all along during the production of this episode!
The only other time Maid Jax shows up is in his terminal hallucination where he's sexually harassing Gangle to act out his unrequited romantic/sexual feelings for her after making Zooble kill herself.
and to top it all off, the real life version of Jax, Leeroy, finds happiness by moving out of his mom's place, getting a stable job and being able to pay rent, and making friends all while still being a man and identifying as a man.
If anything, Jax is a deeply misogynistic character who has tormented every fucking woman he's ever been around during his physical/digital existence.
The cast of this show is mostly female. Kinger is spared from a lot of Jax's torment, Kaufmo got a short burst of crazymaking before he killed himself, but this whole series is basically a Best Hits compilation of Jax abusing every woman he can get his hands on.
I feel like the trans Jax shit was made up after-the-fact, as one final discourse bomb to throw into the endless abyss that is the Amazing Digital Circus fandom to make sure this show is unbearable to talk about for the next 10 years. This shit was not conveyed clearly at all in the finale if it was genuinely intentional.
The only "hints" they had to go off of come from fucking merch that 99% of the people watching won't have bought.
This is a sweater only available in Japan, by the way.
The most charitable read I had on this ending was that Jax was simply someone who had trained himself to treat any offer of help or human connection as an attack on himself (like Shinji in End of Evangelion, a film that this finale took inspiration from), but now that the creative team revealed that they boiled his entire arc down to "Jax doesn't like having a penis and he can be fixed by giving him 5000cc's of HRT and a spinny dress STAT", I feel like this ending went from banal/milquetoast to actively fucking insulting.
The most positive thing I can say about this show/finale is that much like modern Simpsons or Family Guy, it kept a lot of talented animators employed for a while. Hopefully they find better projects helmed by people with more stable mental health in the future.
Jax doesn’t even have the “darkest” backstory in TADC.
Caine spent his entire existence trying to please “humans” that just saw him as a failure, and a worse version of someone better. Forever curious for a world that he will never reach.
Kinger not just had the burden of knowing for a fact he isn’t real, but also had to see his wife die. And he still went on despite loss, and pain to comfort others.
Ragatha’s mother was actually abusive, likely physical too, and she had to actually learn how to be self sufficient to leave her toxic home. While Jax’s mom just laughed at him, and then quickly regretted it.
Hold up, I just realized. Jax being trans as the final dramatic, emotional reveal is kinda funny from a community standpoint.
Sure, lots of people are openly talking spoilers now because its recent and the entire series is freely available for anyone to watch. But that doesn't mean that everyone on earth has watched it, right?
Imagine a few years from now, some new Glitch fan is introduced by one of their future shows, and decided to check out Glitch's older work. By then, the Digital Circus fandom can't be pedantic about referring to Jax as she/her because that's technically a spoiler. In order to not alienate newcomers or spoil the big reveal for folks who haven't seen it, they have to keep calling Jax a guy.
I'm sure the Tvtropes pages for TADC are a fucking warzone right now. Jax was a man all this time, but now suddenly he has female pronouns because Goose feels like shaking things up.
TVtropes and the Digital Circus wiki are currently in a massive pronoun war, even though revealing that Jax was actually a she/her tranny the whole time is basically a massive walking spoiler for the whole series finale.
Currently, all of the pronouns on Jax's wikia page have been switched to she/her despite him being referred to as a him the entire show.
The quote at the top of the page is some tranny mod using a throwaway line as desperate proof that Jax being a troon was always the intention:
Trannies are absolutely willing to spoil the series if it means perpetuating their delusion that once you transition, your male self disappears forever into thin air and retroactively never existed.
The go-to response from trannies and enablers is that it's just "internalized misogyny."
Jax is actually so oppressed by society refusing to immediately conform to his wanting to cut his dick off (and even then, it's less society and more just mommy issues) that it compels him to externalize the misogyny that has been forced upon him by societal bigotry, and the only cure is state-funded sex change operations.
This is the most conclusive evidence that Jax is trans I have seen. Nothing a tranny loves more than bullying real women to show they are the better woman.
