I thought the therapyspeak/ "Amazing Digital Therapy" jokes were exaggeration but no. Finally got the chance to watch this terrible movie (pirating, of course) and every single character has a therapy moment. Pomni to Ragatha, Kinger to Pomni, Zooble to Gangle, both Pomni and Ribbit to Jax, and then Caine to everyone. It was so painfully boring.

I think it's a result of the naval-gazing self-obsession of the mentally ill. There's so much attention placed on the self and feelings. The narrative treats these supposedly grown adults as small children who need to be coddled and constantly validated. Mature adults don't act like this. Mature adults don't want to watch drivel about immature characters like this.
The immaturity oozing out of episode 9, written by a grown man in his 30s nearing middle age, while adults unironically insist the finale was a masterpiece, absolute cinema made me think how shallow and immature western society is. I imagine it's a similar disconnect of shoving a group of NASA engineers from the 1960s into a room, forcing them to watch Paw Patrol, and lecturing them about how they need to consider the characters and story deep.
Nigga did we even watch the same show they barely scrape the surface of the self of the characters beyond shit like "oh yeah i did urban exploration as a hobby" or "oh yeah I was a bartender as one of several odd jobs" or "I was a fucking mcWAGIE manager who wanted to be an artist" or for two count em TWO whole characters you got "my mom was abusive". I 100% agree when you say "they barely scrape the surface of the self." It's why I basically compared it as the emotional equivalency of Paw Patrol's deep inspection of the self and human emotion. What you said is absolutely what I meant when I said this:
This statement did not mean that the story dove into a deep dissection of each characters' selves or feelings in a meaningful way. What I mean when I talk about the character's shallow, immature self-obsession about their own feelings and their own masturbatory introspection is just that. It is as immature, shallow, and self-obsessed as the audience who thinks the end is "absolute cinema."

Right after I saw the movie in theaters, I jumped on Japanese twitter, as one does, to see what people thought of it. One of the first things I saw was a discussion about how Jax acts like a middle school boy (I agree). They weren't roasting him, just casually remarking. One of them seemed to think Jax was 13-14 years old and thought Jax's real social media self was him grown up, showing the passage of time since he put on the VR headset.
First image was perspective, second image disproves Fortnite Pomni being taller. Fortnite brings the two to about the same height but Jax's ears make him a bit taller.
