In the movie Pomni took one look at that and literally told Jax "Just talk to me MAN!" on his deathbed lol. Reminds me of that metokur joke "woah, easy there SIR, I'm sorry BRO, I didnt mean to hurt your feelings MY GUY"
Its weirder than that. Jax told his gf that he thinks he killed his mom and her response was to say "that's okay baby girl." He was entirely justified telling her to fuck off until she ACKed herself. Their final argument also sounds like its about a pump and dump "what we did in your bedroom meant nothing to me!"
Right after I saw the movie in theaters, I jumped on Japanese twitter, as one does, to see what people thought of it. One of the first things I saw was a discussion about how Jax acts like a middle school boy (I agree). They weren't roasting him, just casually remarking. One of them seemed to think Jax was 13-14 years old and thought Jax's real social media self was him grown up, showing the passage of time since he put on the VR headset.
you've hit upon another major problem with not just TADC, but modern Western animation as a whole. These creators make shows nominally for children, but actually cater to adolescents, who are by definition emotionally immature, and emotionally immature adults like themselves. The feedback loop of all of this is that, when young adults are consuming stuff intended primarily for kids, the stuff that should be for kids becomes more adult in nature. But not in a mature way, because they're catering towards these fandoms of young adults who are themselves immature.
He should have told Pomni "excuse me, it's ma'am" and tried to trap her in his mindscape for as long as possible so that she would run the risk of abstracting herself. The entire character of Jax up to that point had revolved around not wanting to open up to others for fear of being laughed at, and this supposed therapist girl, fresh from learning about his dark and troubled past, just decided to make a mockery of his trauma? No wonder she doesn't get paid for this shit. And it's insulting to the viewers, too, since Pomni is meant to be a proxy for them–god forbid we learn anything before she does, oh no–and yet here she is, being a transphobic bigot? Absolutely shameful.
