Huh, there are only five posts here discussing how Caine is a Common Lisp program. I thought that was a cool detail. During that scene in the finale where he accesses the mind files, I was just thinking about how Common Lisp has facilities for traversing file systems, but that wasn't how he was shown to have done it. It seems clear to me he's a Lisp program bolted onto some other shit for the 3-D that probably only works on Windows 95 through a C language FFI. It would make some sense to have some abstract entities like files represented by real objects therein, and there's also precedence for 3-D file system viewers people thought were cool back in the 1990s, although none of it had staying power. It makes sense that things fucked up, since he probably had free rein over the entire computer, no access controls or anything in his way.

Some people are calling it cheap that he survived deletion, but either he was special and had automatic backups unlike the other NPCs, which would make sense, or he made one in the split second he realized he was being deleted. He was probably the largest entity in the system, so it would definitely take a few seconds to completely trash him.

It really speaks volumes about the "quality" of the movie when most people can only talk about how much the theater stinks like shit or how the creator fanbase is eating itself alive.

People are getting to "lost in the sauce" as the kids say. Yeah, shitposting can be fun and all, but having to wade through a mountain of the same tired jokes on repeat just to get the discussion is tiresome.

I took it to mean he wasn't deleted. He caught kinger before he was finished, crashed the console, and kinger thought he might have deleted him, but wasn't completely sure.

Unironically, I think the show actually needed like two more episodes to flesh some of this stuff out so it doesn’t feel so rushed through.
Yes.

It might be a bit early, but since everyone here seems to know the ending. How do you think they'll handle sequels? Filling in the missing parts could be one way. Having a completely different program related to C&A could be another. The most likely explanation is to have the other AI come back, but since they didn't cheap out with a status quo ending, I'm not sure.

Why would Hazbin Hotel get a theatrical release?

Sequel: Jax manages to un-abstract himself, they realize they can restore the other using what Pomni originally tried with Jax. Each episode’s “adventure” is traveling into one of the abstracted’s mind, finding out who they are, and figuring out how best to restore them. Final episode can be Ribbit with Jax actually being able to pull himself together and bring her back, having slowly been trying to be somewhat helpful throughout the series. Might have to make Jax the main character, and you run the risk of “main character sucks”, but it could be done well.

Prequel: Initial members of the circus and freshly “empowered” Caine. We flesh out the backstory, see what the original members were like, if they knew from the beginning what they are, ect. More of a horror/tragedy as we know everyone is going to abstract except Kinger. Final episode is Queenie’s abstraction and we find out what made her go in the first place. Maybe as someone not actually a C&A employee, she doesn’t know she’s just a brain scan, and her both finding out/Kinger hid the truth from her broke her.

My personal grievance with both the character designs and the environment design is that it looks like it's from a baby preschool show, even though the show is supposed to be "mature".

It's not like in Happy Tree Friends where the kiddy art style is deliberately contrasted with shocking bloody violence to make it more funny - TADC is supposed to be dead serious.

Unfortunately, it's hard to take the writer's psuedo-philosophical ramblings seriously when they're coming from the mouth of an knock-off Oswald The Lucky Rabbit or a cutesy Raggedy Ann doll.
The slapstick is supposed to be painful like in cartoons, but there isn't enough time spent on the characters reeling from the pain Caine puts them through.
And aside from a few minor moments, it is basically a kids show. Especially episodes 1-8. You can plop this shit on Cartoon Network with minimal adjustments. All of its 'dark/mature' themes have been done before at the same level in kids shows like steven universe, adventure time, atla, even total drama. It has the same TVPG rating in the US as Steven Universe. Even Zooble saying the word sex wouldve probably passed on euro/canadian tv up until recently. Glitch is selling official merch in toy stores, for christs sake.

Unless a parent is watching 100% of an episode (and even then not even all episodes have it) itll absolutely look like a kids show, because anything actually not childfriendly is few and far between. Even caines crashout was extremely mild compared to the shit hirch was able to get bill cipher to do in gravity falls.

Hell, even cartoons in the 90s and 2000s had their fair share of body horror.

I still can't get over how shit Scratch's 2d icon is.

If you showed this to someone who knew nothing about TADC and told them it was some crappy fanart made by a 11 year-old beginner artist, they would 100% believe you.

But no, it's official art that can be seen inside the show and is supposed to represent one of the story's most [allegedly] important characters.

Cooper may be a hack, but it's not like he can't draw. How is he [or any of his lackeys] not able to draw one of the easiest and most generic cartoon animals imaginable?

Just saw the movie.
My gripes with it are that the recap took way too long (even tho they JUST said that you should have watched the other episodes... so why the recap is there, I have no clue).

Other than that... the film is mid I guess. Jax abstracting IMMEDIATELY in the beginning got a chuckle out of me, and all of the brain-scan "they aren't real" habub is just hastily thrown in there.

Other than that... I genuinely don't know what to say. I saw it, I saw things happen, and it just... happened. I didn't feel a thing, and the only nice little stuff they do is nod to the first pilot in the last moments of the show. I genuinely don't know how to feel about this other than "it exists I suppose". And the weird part is that I just can't put my finger on it.

It wasn't God-awful like I expected it, but it wasn't a very good conclusion. Then again, with all the issues the main show has, I doubt anything would have saved it.

my review / plot summarization of the movie

The first act contains most of the actual story as the movie is comprised mostly of little character moments between the main cast and the previous cast in flashbacks.

the film starts off with caine angry with the main characters that they dont appreciate his adventures, despite all the work he does for them they still dont like him.
he comes to the conclusion that hes their god and he can just force them to do whatever he wants,
after being forced to go on a particularly brutal adventure the cast comes to the conclusion that he needs to be dealt with permanently so they can live peaceful lives.
here we learn that kinger was actually a programmer that helped create the circus and caines ai and thus would know how to delete him forever.
pomni goes into the backrooms from the first episode to find a computer for kinger while the rest of the cast distracts him.
caine squishes the characters into a clay ball and balloon animals for fun while kinger hacks into the system to delete him
goose ball.png goose animal.jpeg
if that sounds familiar here is his previous fetish artwork, this is essentially what happens in the movie.

The second act of the movie has our characters making up, crying while telling each other how much they mean to them.
the phrase "im here for you if you want to talk" is uttered about 4 times during the movie.
at some point after caine is deleted jax goes abstract and turns into a monster,
in an attempt to save him, pomni hugs him and is transported into his mind where 4 different doors are present. each one telling us how he feels about his friends,

in zoobies door he kills her, loonie tunes style.
in gangles door he is dressed up in a maid costume and invites her to his room seductively. (everyone laughed at this one)
in pomnis door he strangles her in a scene thats actually played pretty dark for something aimed at kids. pomni turns blue as she gasps for air

finally we get a flashback chronicling jaxs life in the circus, He makes friends with some frog woman and they get really close.

during an intimate moment he spills his heart out about how much he hates his father and how he was only around to yell at him before leaving, jax hates that he sees his dads rage in himself and despises that aspect of his personality,
he ends up becoming homeless after getting in a fight with his mother and pushing her before running away.
he seems it immediately regret telling this to froggy and acts cold to her from then on, eventually pushing her away entirely until she becomes abstracted,
eventually pomni finds the real jax within his mind and hugs him while they both cry,

the final act, caine is not dead but stuck in a void where he wanders around until he finds a door containing the real life digital foot prints of the cast,
he comes to the new realization that humans have vast deep lives that he as an ai cannot fully understand and how keeping them in captivity and forcing them to go on adventures is cruel and unusual.
he decides to destroy his god powers and returns to the circus as their equals promising to make it a paradise for all of them.
he also brought with him the real-life information of the characters identities

pomni was an accountant
ragatha was a horse rider who distanced herself from her mother but has lots of friends,
zoobie is nonbinary who ran an alt-bar and is black
grangle was a teenager who was a twitter artist who is black
kinger is also back and a lesbian who works in IT, her wifes name is destiny
jax is lightskined and worked as an amazon delivery driver after being unhoused

the movie ends with a montage of the characters playing games like DND and baseball, the final shot is of all of them eating dinner much like the ending of the pilot.

overall i think this movie sucked and i cringed though most of the second act.
it really didn't serve to be entertaining as a movie rather to wrap up the show as fast as possible so the rest of the run time could be devoted to telling jax's story and emotional problems.
im pretty sure he has more screen time than all of the other characters

i started thinking of the spongbob and simpsons movies that had our characters go on actual adventures with weight to them.
both the emotional climax of spongbob and patrick sharing their final moments proud they proved them selfs to be men and marge leaving homer with the kids had way more weight to them because an entire movies worth of trials and suffering proceeded them, nothing like that happens here, the climax here happens after 40 minutes of flashbacks into a characters life that has nothing to do with the plot, which was wrapped up in the first 20 minutes of the movie.

even something more recent like the backrooms had its emotional climax take place during a therapy session using language that wouldn't be too out of place in the amazing digital circus.
however this was built up to with plot and character actions not winging and flashbacks that take place before the story of the movie happens

also there is a scene where caine drags each character to their own versions of hell. jax's has his skin ripped off exposing his yellow body which is comprised of a singular plastic piece while he covers his chest with his arm
it instantly reminded me of this part from the animatrix that trannies seem to think is about them
